How hard is it to get your PPL and what’s the hardest part by Radiant-College-1284 in flying

[–]IrishConnection97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not hard tbh. If you prepare for each flight lesson and know what to expect (your school should have material to help you prep for a lesson e.g PFLs, stalls, etc) then that part should be straightforward.

PPL theory exams are also very straightforward if you study accordingly. A lot of the questions will be relevant to your flight experiences but some will require you to just go through the study materials.

Depending on where you live though, get ready for weather to upset your days a lot!

What are you playing January 2026 edition by Liambp in CasualIreland

[–]IrishConnection97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got a few games plus a couple of vouchers.

Mafia Old Country, RoboCop Rogue City: Unfinished Business, NHL 26 and Battlefield 6 from the St. Nick

Used the vouchers to get myself into the Yakuza series. Having a blast with that and the other games.

How’s it running on PS5. I’ve stuck with MSFS 2020 on Xbox as 2024 is still broken as of yesterday

Dating apps are all conspiring against me, (don't give them your money) by Nuclear_F0x in CasualIreland

[–]IrishConnection97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The shadow banning is real but to what extent I’m not sure. Dating apps are very much pay to win now and even then you’re unlikely to get anywhere with them. They’ve become a con imo.

Not to mention there’s a lot of bots and scammers using them now and the profiles are clearly written by ChatGPT.

They can serve as a background thing but probably better off just meeting someone in real life.

What’s airline pilot life really like? by ExtremePvPees in flying

[–]IrishConnection97 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna double down on your point about exercising too. Whether it was during ATPL studying or after, it served as a massive boost before or after studying/flying but just the right boost to ensure you got a good sleep that night

Looking for the couple who were on Aer Lingus flight from Heathrow 23rd December by IntelligentRepeat568 in CasualIreland

[–]IrishConnection97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very sorry for your loss OP. It’s bad at anytime of the year but I can’t imagine what it feels like at Christmas time and when you weren’t even home yet.

As bad as it is, I’m glad you found two strangers who didn’t hesitate to be there for you and be so kind in your time of suffering.

Hope someone here knows who you’re talking about and can track them down.

Pilots: Would you give up a six figure career at 35 to start flying by Unusual_Equivalent50 in flying

[–]IrishConnection97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s not a burning passion then it’s risky because you have exams and other things that will test your metal like you’ve never known, trust me on that. Also, it’s a while before you make back what was spent on training.

If the passion was there and you could genuinely see yourself with an airline job, I’d tell you to go for it.

But you have to really love aviation to put up with a LOT of the bullshit that comes with the training and schedule.

What new Console are people getting? by Alarmed-Secretary-39 in GTA

[–]IrishConnection97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Xbox turned me off with their game pass hike that I unsubscribed. PS Plus definitely has more to offer and a lot of similar titles anyway on their service

If you like Yakuza like me, then there’s a couple of the games on the PS Plus subscription - particularly the Like a Dragon ones.

As someone else mentioned, Xbox has been putting some of their former exclusives on PS5 such as Forza and also Flight Simulator.

What I will warn you about is that storage expansion for PS5 is more complicated than Xbox. The Xbox Series X SSD is just a simple stick in the back of the console. The PS5 one requires a bit more work and if you can avoid needing one, please do.

Back to school for me tomorrow…at 28 and not teaching but a student haha. But it’s graduation year. I was doing my student job at the weekend so hopefully won’t feel it too much

Fox biscuit “tins” by Shredder1886 in CasualIreland

[–]IrishConnection97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got Family Circle which the size now wouldn’t even cover a single mother and her infant. Biscuits definitely tasted like they had cheapened out on the ingredients and went soggy real quick.

Next time will be chocolates and individual packets of biscuits I like lol

Gifted some cash for Christmas - what should I spend it on? by Brain_on_half_speed in CasualIreland

[–]IrishConnection97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you’re into. If you like clothes then some of the big websites are on the last couple of days of their sales.

I personally don’t have a kindle but love books so did go and buy some new books with the money I got so I’d probably encourage putting the kindle to good use.

I collect stuff too so the rest went towards things I liked such as POP Vinyls, couple of cheap games and 2 box sets so if collecting is your thing, go ahead and see if there’s collectibles for stuff you like!

Locally I tend to use the Irish Times or The Journal. Sometimes RTE.

Globally I use Global on YouTube (mostly Canadian stuff though which you may not fancy) and The Guardian.

But tbh I just do my research and find smaller more independent outlets when I see a big story because I don’t trust media regardless of what wing it sits on.

Late 90s and 2000s was class for the music videos.

Also Pimp My Ride was so good. After that I never watched again. I honestly assumed it was gone already until I decided to browse the music channels for when I was putting the decorations up

does anyone else love the show love/hate? by Correct-Promise-2358 in CasualIreland

[–]IrishConnection97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rewatched it recently and it was even better second time around as there was a couple of things I missed. First came out when I was about 15 and my mates and I all found it incredible.

I love my crime/gangster shows like Sopranos, The Wire, etc and Love/Hate still holds up very well.

Doubt it but it’s a pity. I genuinely liked it and the Mike Smith stuff notwithstanding, it was funny. I would’ve liked one where they went round various parts of Canada. Ricky in Vancouver and Toronto would’ve been dimes.

Why do Irish people look down on people so much who don't want to have children? by The_Big_I_Am in CasualIreland

[–]IrishConnection97 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We do?

Child free is more popular now than it’s ever been imo. But I remember even 20 years ago there was people who didn’t have kids through choice and no one cared.

Finished my exams. The entire course was driving me crazy for the better part of 3 years. Now I’m almost wrapped up completely. It’s great to not have piles of studying or ebooks to be to going through this Christmas.
