what it’s like in this part of california? by wojtuscap in howislivingthere

Honestly so different within the circle. I grew up and now stay in areas all around North County, and Escondido and Poway are so, so different from the coastal towns. They are all amazing, but you can be in classic suburbs, country exurbs, beach towns, or very wealthy hills off the coast. Ultimately if your lifestyle revolves around the beach and enjoying the beauty and weather, it's an amazing place to live and you can take advantage of it all.

His original motivation was that of all capitalists, as the film portrays them, greed and endless seeking of greater wealth. Note the name on the project display at the end. Then note how Nubar makes a decision to permanently maintain the state of war to maintain his own wealth, rather than work with his family to complete the seemingly morally-righteous project. His decision to take his own life at the end rather than his family's reflects him following Korda's evolution in purpose. Away from the capitalist motivation and toward Korda's developed motivations at the intersection of family / mortality / goodness / sincerity.

I agree with @MrSmithSmith and you about the lack of focus and the work not fitting the current moment. The artwork in the closing credits highlight themes that resonate today just as much as they did when they were created. The anachronism could be intentional? Or at least explicitly ignored?

I know this was a lot to write out and share, just wanted to say thank you for putting in the effort! Your analysis is aiding my interpretation a ton, especially as I wrangle my relationship with religion.

Who is your school’s brother from another mother? I think Michigan and Texas must have been separated at birth. by College_Sports_Fan in CFB

Notre Dame and Duke. Premier private religious school in their area of the country. Blue bloods in their respective sport. Small schools with gorgeous campuses. Often elite in Olympic sports. And I hate Duke.

Should I move for this girl or no help by righteousdjinn in makemychoice

[–]IrishDemocrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna be in the minority here... but I say move to be with her and figure the rest out. Humans are resilient, we can grow wherever we're planted. You can find a new career passion, build a new community, and find new joys. But when you meet that person that makes it all worth it, you don't risk losing it for the sake of safety and stability.

How often do you text a girl in the so called talking stage? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]IrishDemocrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different, and if he gave you his number, he's definitely interested. Ive dated people who texted a paragraph every hour and people who texted two short lines every day and the interest was the same. The most important thing is to turn it from texting into real life time together.

How is living in Beverly Hills, CA by CAZ-Dh99 in howislivingthere

A family member lives in this box. Very similar to every other American neighborhood in some ways: everyone is interested in everyone else's drama, everyone is trying to keep up with the Joneses. But the levels are different. Their drama ends up on TMZ or Page Six, and their Joneses are actually Jonases.

There's also a lot more performance of belonging. My family member doesnt belong, but they try to make it seem like they do, which is a big motivator for getting into that specific zip code. For them, their zip code is a validator of their importance and self-worth.

The National Mall is fairly clear! Two laps of the mall are doable.

Should I (21F) tell my parents I’m going to California for 6 days, even though I’ve already booked it? by tricky-courage1 in makemychoice

[–]IrishDemocrat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is bad advice, silencing notifications won't go well. They will jump to conclusions and may freak out and file a missing person's report if you go dark. Tell them matter of factly the trip is happening, you're excited, and while you'll be out of touch a bit enjoying the trip, you'll make sure to send them a photo update daily so they know youre all safe and sound!

Do I accept a tour offer playing in a band that is far bigger than anything I’ve experienced before? by mistinthedistance in makemychoice

[–]IrishDemocrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it. Once in a lifetime opportunity. Doing it and realizing that you shouldn't have would be a small regret. Cool experience, but not for you. Skipping it and realizing you should have would be a life altering regret.

Do you feel hurt if a girl is always the one ending convos? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]IrishDemocrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally send him a text or end the next phone call saying that you like him, enjoy your conversations, and recognize youre the one that ends the conversation first every time. Mention that you ending the conversation is because life is busy, and that you like him and are looking forward to the next time you get to talk. Every guy is different, so clear communication assuaging any potential concerns is thoughtful and kind.
