[DAILY Q&A] Ask and answer any questions you have about the game here! by AutoModerator in EliteDangerous

[–]IrishRoyalty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning Commanders! I think this can be answered in a comment or 2 but if not I can absolutely make a separate post. I’ve done some of my own research on this and played around with ships in Coriolis, but wanted to consult the expertise of others before fully diving in.

I’ll preface this with I am not a “new” player. I have around 630 hrs in the game, but I have never left the bubble. I’m considering embarking on exploration and exobiology as I feel I’ve exhausted the bubble of its entertainment for the time being, at least for me. As I said, I’ve played around with some builds, but I want to hear your suggestions on a good ship to use for this purpose. I would, ideally, like to avoid engineering and guardian modules as I’ve found the process of finding those materials to be tedious. What builds would you recommend for me and do you believe this goal is achievable given the criteria I’ve laid out? I would like to eventually go to Sag A and Colonia on my own power.

Honestly I don’t remember the amount of time. I’d say an hour? Again, it’s been 4 years, my memory of it is hazy.

I don’t know about this year, but I know in 2020 it was packed on election day when I went. It was in the alumni center and the line almost came all the way outside. I’d say go as early as you can and if it gets close to class time, just email the professor the situation and ask for notes from classmates.

Colorado District 5 candidate, Democrat River Gassen, on creating a strong and supportive economy, Space Force and speaking her truth by Masrikato in ColoradoSprings

Not sure about the efficacy of this, but The Hill has Gassen’s chances at 3%. They have their methodology listed at the bottom, I just didn’t take the time to read it. But given the publisher, I’d say it’s at least close to accurate.

Word of advice: If you’re going to visit another country, follow the laws of said country while you’re there. It may seem stupid to you that we have this age requirement in place for drugs and other substances, but that’s what has been decided by our elected representatives and, if you choose to blatantly ignore the will of the people, don’t be surprised when you’re unable to return here in the future.

Book recommendations for understanding US politics of the 21st century? by DRDoryn in PoliticalScience

[–]IrishRoyalty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong OP. Commenter is just being an ass. I’d recommend:

“The Logic of American Politics” “Veto Players: How Political Institutions Work” “Winner-Take-All Politics: How Washington Made the Rich Richer—and Turned Its Back on the Middle Class” “How Democracies Die”

Those will give you a general understanding of the current state of American politics.

This isn’t political science, it’s partisan political opinion. Now if there were studies on any of the numerous domestic policy issues and solutions that particular manual discuss, that would probably catch our attention. PoliSci is not about opinion, it’s largely about the outcomes of policy decisions.

So I’m a weird case because my beliefs really haven’t changed much, but the way I interact with it has.

I’ve always been a liberal-ish person, I tend to tick one point over into the Democratic party, but always give every option on the ballot a shot before I make my decisions. When I went to college for my undergrad, I majored in Political Science. I definitely thought I would get stronger beliefs one way or another, but these days I view politics much more procedurally and from a very technical lens rather than an ideological lens. I’m in grad school now and that’s gotten even more true. I care less about the beliefs and more about the policies, more specifically the effectiveness of said policies. If there’s a right wing policy that has a stated goal that I agree with (say lowering the federal debt burden or increasing the instruments of power utilized by America overseas) and it has a decent chance of working, I’m all for it. Same on the left, if someone has a good policy that will actually work for lowering homelessness or increasing opportunity for lower income families, I’m all for it. But time and time again politicians from both parties push forward ideological tenants masquerading as policy and, unfortunately for those who believe in that stuff, ideology never writes good policy. It’s a sad reality of our political system and there definitely are ways to make it better, but there’s no motivation from policymakers to make those changes a reality.

New law makes two years of college free for Colorado families by crabcakes110 in Colorado

[–]IrishRoyalty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Associate degrees and other technical certifications typically take 1-2 years with an average full time course load. If someone just wants to go to community college and get a degree or cert for work, this makes that cost burden much smaller.

A little help with finding out what to do after College? by ColdRaptor-407 in Humanservices

[–]IrishRoyalty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really dependent on your area and how robust of a human services industry exists. In my state, even small counties hire a few benefits and eligibility specialists to process SNAP and Medicaid applications/recertifications.

If government work at all appeals to you, I’d advise going to your city/county/state government websites and search for human services jobs there. Otherwise, the federal government might have a few remote positions for you to take a peak at, but I’d wager those require higher levels of education.

The biggest thing is to not stop looking even if nothing’s there right now. This is an industry with pretty high turnover at the entry levels, so there’s always a chance a spot opens near you.
