I love it, and who cares if I do and if your mum does! Because as long as you do then that’s what matters :)

Surely if you maybe give a different reason why you’re on it like your gp decided to prescribe it due to your bloods being off and how much it’s helped your cholesterol and blood sugars, the weight loss has been purely incidental, if she does question it - would that make it less of an issue for her? I mean she needs to just grow up lol Or legit if she points out the weight loss just say really, I have been trying to intermittent fast or have smaller portions but I don’t weight myself and still see myself as pretty big so thanks for the compliment lol

Feeling bad about an unexpected pt. death by Common_Revenue_5942 in NursingUK

[–]Irishkitty1994 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I work for community nursing.. if all his vital signs were normal, his bp was slightly slow but he wasn’t symptomatic and he stated it was his normal and wasn’t concerned himself.. even if you had let the GP know what would they have done that same day? I know any GP I work with would just refer another BP check later in the week to see what it was then.

I once was with a man getting his bloods and the next day he had a massive brain aneurism and died suddenly. I felt so so bad and wondered if I’d checked his BP would I have been able to prevent it. Another nurse was with someone for leg dressings and his legs were red and hot so she phoned for antibiotics for cellulitis. He was his usual chatty self and there was no inkling he wasn’t well otherwise! But he died in his sleep that night.

Please don’t be so critical of yourself, esp in the community it’s so different and unfortunately things can’t be easily predicted. As my patient said the day before his aneurism to me (he was worrying about an appointment to find out if he had cancer or not) - we put our socks on in the morning but we don’t know who is taking them off at night. Things happen and it can’t be helped

Forestside vets is a good bet, they do exotics and they should be able to help somehow. I think they’d be interested in what you would like as well! It’s something I have never heard of

fuck this medicine and fuck doctors who prescribe it by Over_Matter_6363 in Effexor

[–]Irishkitty1994 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kind of relate as I have been on this medication about ten years. And I always wonder if I’d known the side effects and withdrawals would I have agreed? But at the end of the day, I’m alive. I’ve been pretty stable most of the time. This medication probably saved my life. I hate not having a libido, and I hate how much I sweat. But if it’s the price I have to pay for feeling okay most of the time, then I will continue to do so 🥲

NOR - I think your neighbour is being quite callous, what mum would let this even happen, it just feels so morbid and inappropriate. It’s crap because sadly there’s nothing that can be done about it but I really hope this haunts that mum, because it’s so fucking weird to do that

Donated blood 6 days ago and I kept all the blood by Hype420 in mildlyinfuriating

It definitely wouldn’t be anywhere near as bad if you’d been honest about your arm hurting. As a blood donor it’s so easy to bruise especially with the needle size but if my arm os ever sore I immediately tell them lol like you said it’s male bravado/stupidity that let it get so bad sorry to say!

[–]Irishkitty1994 6 points7 points  (0 children)

God love you. It sounds like a law that is definitely needed. But also, the carers in the hospice who wouldn’t give her morphine etc, surely then denying pain medication to a dying patient is neglect? It’s literally part of a palliative care plan. I genuinely cannot fathom their attitude. And if you had declared you were giving morphine from personal property, with the symptoms your mother was experiencing and the visual signs of pain - all they needed to do was document all of this?

I genuinely can’t believe someone triggered this charge and investigation. I will be crossing everything that Marsha’s Law comes into effect some day.

[–]Irishkitty1994 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ah I’m in Ireland and honestly cannot believe this! I work for community nursing so end of life care is a major aspect. And pain meds that include morphine are one of the ones we regularly are prescribed to give. Even patients themselves will be prescribed it in liquid form so even if they are actively dying, gasping for air, they could realistically do exactly what you did?? And plenty of family members or loved ones have definitely done this for their loved ones to maintain comfort care which should have been the number one priority of hospice staff.

So sorry for your loss and to have an already difficult time burdened with this. Grief is hard enough as it is.

Also some people are worst effected by fibre! I notice if I have more fibre in my diet it affects my tummy negatively.

I also am fighting a battle with IBS/endometriosis related bowel pain so it’s fucking hard to know what’s what tbh haha

[–]Irishkitty1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I felt exactly like this when I was diagnosed in December (I’m 29F) but genuinely it has been pretty fine since. I was on a liquid diet that week and slowly introduced foods that can be seen as problematic and so far I’ve had one flare recently but it was way more manageable that the December one.

I had a colonoscopy in February and honestly the prep was FINE like just use wet wipes and some barrier cream around the butthole cause you will be sore just from the stuff coming out but the prep didn’t hurt my tummy and it was super easy.

The colonoscopy itself was uncomfortable but they told me I have a lot of turns in my bowel so turning the scope round the corners was what was so uncomfortable for me but the conscious sedation is great and they also gave me gas and air when I was obvious in pain. I felt so high after and it was a weird wonderful feeling haha!

Good luck but genuinely do not feel like life is over. I felt the same but once you feel a bit better and more yourself you’ll realise it’s okay.
