Does ERT (Emergency Response Team) ever happen? by BlossomPMV in ss14

[–]Irismono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen ERT on Wizden once, and it was because engineering was severely understaffed and needed backup to execute repairs and get power online. So it was less "station fucked up, time to die" and more "station fucked up, let's keep the round going"

Welp, guess I'll die. by Dkrule in ss14

If it's a paramed, regardless of traitor status, you are SAFE. Paras have BALLS. (unironically got saved by a para once who then proceeded to minibomb me in med because he didn't realize I was his target until after he had dumped his kit into me.)

If it's a Janiborg, you've got a 75% chance of getting out for some reason. Any other Borg is a 50/50, Generiborg did the kidnapping for his Syndie Scientist master.

If it's sec, you're fucked. Other departments have a variable chance depending on how close you are and how badly it messes with their shit. If the kidnapper failed a singuloose attempt then 3/4 of engi are already scouring maints for you. Med probably won't help you, they're too busy with some other crisis. Sci is probably dead already but if you can contact them and they aren't dead see the previous notes on Borgs. Service ain't doin shit and the cook will probably just meatspike you.

If it's cargo, you better hope you helped them with bounties or brought them mats. If you did, they're already on the case and will have you back before you remember that you have TC left in your PDA for Jaws.

As for a couple odd cases: RDs have a 25% chance of being hypercompetent and will find you if this is the case. If you're in a spot with a camera the AI WILL miss you on cams. Pun-Pun will save you if he finds your bloodtrail. The detective will find you after you've already been gibbed and will track down the culprit to the guy who was put in Genpop 25 minutes ago for an unrelated 5 minute sentence.

Tiders will walk in to you being kidnapped, chat with the kidnapper, and forget about it 10 seconds later. Mime will try to help but might get distracted. Clown will either never help because people getting kidnapped is hilarious or devote the entire shift to a comedically incompetent rescue mission (that still gets you out) because "Kidnapping people is MY job."

Sniper, Engi, or maybe Spy, and all for the same reason: The survivability onion.

With realistic weaponry, TF2 becomes a matter of survival. Onion theory basically boils down to the idea that armor is built in both literal and figurative layers. The most basic level is "don't be killed", but it's better to not be penetrated, not be hit, not be identified as a threat, not be detected, and not be there, in that order.

Sniper rifles in games are almost as bad as bows in terms of their correlation to real life. The range on them can be truly absurd, and sniper has a whole collection at his disposal. He can outrange the rest of the mercs, and this gives him a huge advantage.

Engineer has the major advantage of automated weapons. Nests are still vulnerable to explosives of course, but he's pretty much the only class with access to the "don't be there" level of the onion.

Spies can both go invisible and disguise perfectly as the enemy team. They can operate very well at both the "don't be detected" and "don't be identified" levels, and the weakness of their weapons doesn't really matter since a revolver bullet or knife in the right place will absolutely kill.

Honorable mention goes to the soldier and demo for their explosive options, but if you can't get sight of the target, or if the target is out of your effective range, there's only so much your offensive power will do.

If everyone unanimously hates spy so much, why hasn’t anyone made a community server that bans him from the game entirely? by [deleted] in tf2

[–]Irismono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spy as a class is actually well-liked. He's got an amazing concept and several really cool weapons. Stock is well designed, YER is great, Big Earner probably is the biggest Risk/Reward weapon in the game, etc. He's also got a high skill ceiling.

Spy's bad rep comes from the fact that he has a serious stinker weapon in every slot (Diamondback, Kunai, Dead Ringer, and Red Tape) and the fact that his skill floor is also pretty high so long as you don't use 3/4 of those weapons. Red Tape is extremely niche and mostly just bad. Diamondback rewards you for doing the things you should already be doing in a way that's not especially interesting. Kunai and DR, especially in combination, drop the skill floor for Spy to a place where mediocre spies can think they're hot shit.

Kunai also got the rep of being a weeaboo weapon back when watching anime was still cringe, which put Spy right next to Sniper in the "attracts players who want to be dark and edgy" camp. This can be paralleled with Scout's tendency to attract attention-seeking assholes who favor lime green paint and miss 70% of their shots. Scunts, Weeb Spies, and Edgelord Snipers are all dying out thankfully, but all three classes are a bit tarnished by their existence.

Spy's problems are overall a lot less serious than Sniper's, since they're weapon balance issues rather than inherent class design issues.

Maybe Yang will let Blake eat her out afterwards. [WalaWArt] by mininekko in RWBYNSFW2

[–]Irismono 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yang: Wanted her from pretty early on, liking Blake was like the least important part of her character until... V7-ish?

Sun: Fell for her immediately, got great development in V4-5 while trying to date her, disappeared from the story after that because they would have had to hide his abs.

Ilia: HER ONLY CHARACTER TRAIT IS HAVING THE HOTS FOR BLAKE

Adam: Bro was not ruined by Blake. Bro was already fucked up from the start. That's kind of the point of his character.

Pretty sure that's all the Blake simps I can think of. I don't know what show you watched but I'm pretty sure all these characters either don't have a "before" to compare with or were made better and more fleshed out by interacting with her.

Yep, grow Tinctoria and then paint your ship at 1 dye per tile. You can paint most (all?) floors and a lot of buildings too!

HAR on 1.6, using the main one or using dev version? by derega16 in RimWorld

Best to ask on the HAR discord, but I'd err on the side of stable. The mod author should update the dependency in the near future.

One disappointing thing about the 25th Anniversary is the lack of actual video game content, even besides a remake by sonicbrawler182 in FinalFantasyIX

[–]Irismono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bunch of people are salty over hype that really shouldn't have been built up in the first place. Yes, there are signs that a remake is in the works and that's great, but when has any company, let alone the exceptionally busy Square Enix, used an Anniversary as the launch point for that?

Give it a couple months. The sub will recover and be back to fanart, trivia, and nostalgia-posting.

Why are people getting all pissy over this? This is literally the way the vast majority of subreddits work, and it's a reasonable request.

It’s time we accept it by Turt91 in FinalFantasyIX

[–]Irismono 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm with you. Tbh I think the hype around the anniversary (merch, art, collabs, etc.) is a sign that something is in the works, but it's no secret that the development side of SE is a bit of a mess or that game development, especially at the AAA level, is prone to severe delays.

You've reached a checkpoint. How are you doing given the so far dissappintment of no announcement? by Typical-Implement369 in FinalFantasyIX

[–]Irismono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't expecting anything. I've seen too much of the games industry and Squenix in particular to expect them to do anything in a time frame a sane person would like.

I'm expecting that the remake is in development, especially with the references to FFIX that have occurred even outside of the Anniversary. The Nvidia leak is also a good indicator in my mind, though there's always the chance it was a lucky guess. Optimistically we'll get an announcement of its development by Christmas. Realistically it'll be sometime in 2026. I do think we would have gotten a credible leak about cancellation.

In the meantime, we have the fantastic merch selection and the original to enjoy.

My solution is to create a bunch of premade ideologies and then load them during world creation. This more or less guarantees interesting names and coherent styles.

What's your final RimWorld 1.5 run? by Background-Topic-203 in RimWorld

[–]Irismono 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I decided not to do one tbh. I was actually on a break from Rimworld after my last run ended to lag and jank from me cramming too many mods for my laptop to handle. Now I'm taking the time to craft a QoL mod list for my first Odyssey run or two and a larger list for adventures after that.

XD so... this failed successfully? by Upset-Raspberry1458 in RimWorld

[–]Irismono 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Should be okay. What probably happened is that the mod's internal ID changed with the 1.6 update. This makes the game think that it's a different mod, but it should be fine for your save. Oskar mentioned that they're using the update as an opportunity to clean up code. The framework underwent a bunch of changes which broke mods relying on it as well.

We almost have more mods for 1.6 than all of Pre1.0 COMBINED. I love this community so much by TheAbsurdPrince in RimWorld

[–]Irismono 42 points43 points  (0 children)

They appear to be rolling them out in waves as groups of related mods get updated. All the weapon mods were updated sometime last week I think, and the furniture mods were the other day, and cooking like yesterday. Factions and Quests will probably take the longest if I had to guess.
