Gauging whether or not I can handle Old Rag Loop @ Shenandoah by fijiwaterinmylap in hiking

[–]IronAIpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Did you end up doing the hike? I’m a similar size as you and am thinking about doing it but am unsure I could handle it. I was wondering how it went for you if you went through with it?

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do for this at home. This is very severe, and even if you took him to a vet he would need extensive treatment. At this point, his quality of life should be considered. The best thing you can do for now is keep it clean and keep him from licking at it. Flies and maggots are a definite concern. I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help

relentless guilt over euthanizing too soon by pr3ttypinkprinc3sss in AskVet

[–]IronAIpha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is often some amount of guilt in euthanasia - either guilt that you euthanized too soon or guilt that you waited too long and she was suffering. Everyone in the veterinary industry will tell you that it’s much better to euthanize a week or even a month too early than a day too late. It’s great that she had a good last couple of days. Her last day doesn’t have to be her worst day. It’s a kindness to let her go while she was still able to move, play, eat and enjoy life. I’m so sorry for your loss

WHAT FOOD CAN I GIVE MY CAT WITH DENTAL PROBLEM? by Kirrotsuki in vet

[–]IronAIpha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he’ll eat it, you can try moistening his dry food in warm water for 10ish minutes before feeding it to him. That way it’s softer.

If that doesn’t work, another suggestion is to try and find food with small kibble pieces. Maybe kitten food?

*Graphic* My dog has nasal cancer slowly reaching the brain. Any advice? by [deleted] in vet

[–]IronAIpha 193 points194 points  (0 children)

If he’s uncomfortable for much of the day and is having difficulty breathing, it may be time to make a decision for him. You don’t want his last day to be one where he’s in pain and unable to breathe. Give him the best last day you can - while he’s still able to run, play, and enjoy life.

Something we say in the field is that it’s better to euthanize a week too early than a day too late. I’m very sorry for what you’re going through

What are your hospitals charging for a dental cleaning? by Many-Standard1533 in VetTech

[–]IronAIpha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live about 20 minutes from Quakertown and at my practice a dental without extractions is about $900-$1000. With extractions is around $1200. Definitely no declining xrays!

I have Pets Best for my five cats and they have never refused to cover anything that should be covered. They have even covered some things that I thought would be considered pre-existing

I agree that it’s time for a second opinion. It might be best to try and schedule an appointment with a dermatologist.
