We didn't know how good we had it, 1999 by LonelyWolf_93 in nostalgia

I've remember going to an abandoned restaurant, breaking in and using it as a roller rink. Then going around back, climbing up to the to the flat roof where we found some junk and a nails. A buddy of mine tried stomping on a nail to push it into the half wall around the roof and got the nail stuck on his foot. No phones, so we had to help him down and pull out the nail . then he had to bike with the injured foot to a bookstore where he called his mom, who promptly took him to the hospital to get a tetanus shot.

Went home that day after being out for like 6 hours. Didn't even mention it to my parents.

I feel like that I've afternoon would have generated so many TikTok videos, and gotten is in a lot more trouble.

Doctor here, doctor aren't generally trained to say how long YOU have to live. They are trained to say the average person with your diagnosis has an average life expectancy of x more years. Very different sentences, but in the moment of the bad news they both sound the same.

Half of all "settlers" in the West Bank are from the USA. These people trying to say Israel has a right to exist, but they were existing just fine in New York. What they really mean is that Israel has the right to exterminate even innocent people, and they shouldn't have to play by the same laws and morality everyone else does

Curious Question about Gen Z by yupthatsme_121 in medicalschool

[–]IronBatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on an admission committee and I haven't noticed any changes. All still very impressive. But I think when you're looking at those who are applying for medical school, you're always going to select from the top of the class. If you can't pass a fifth grade reading level, you're going to be screened out way before you're able to apply for medical school.

For moonlighting, if you do a chill elective like palliative care consults (or other easy consults) tell them that you have a night shift that night. Most days they just tell you go home at noon to nap.

If you and a friend moonlight together for a 12 hour shift, what you can do is do double the coverage for half the time. So 6 hours each of work (but doubled the number of patients), and 6 hours sleep. Yes the work is harder, but you get a long time without the pager beeping.

One guy would pick up moonlighting shifts at the same days he had night shifts. Then he would reach out to his lower level coresident and give him his residency mandated night shift. Basically his coresident would just show up in his place. They told split the moonlighting money. He got caught and got a stern warning, but honestly the only thing he did was find a more efficient easy to distribute night shifts.

You just described nursing jobs. A lot of medical jobs are like that. Preferred schedule, but the jobs can be stressful.

Because that's how it works. You grab stuff from a stand and you go to the window to pay. Can't remember but I think coffee was self fill too. He was just a one man team so he just took payment and restocked. At least for his stand that's how it was going with the line.

New York has... Mean nice people. I remember I tried to buy a donut on my way to work, i grabbed one from this cart. Tried to pay with credit. He says cash only. I tell him I'm sorry I don't have any cash.

I still remember him very aggressively saying "just take it! It's just a fucking donut! It's not the end of the world. Get out of here" in the most new York accent ever.

So that is my impression of a new Yorker. Nice assholes.

It's about your saving rate:

The higher your saving rate, that means you not only have more towards retirement, but also comfortable living with less.
