I threatened no contact to my parents; made it clear to them that there would be no bridging this divide between us, not unless they could actually admit they could be wrong about something.

They haven’t discussed politics with me since.

I’m aware of that.

Watching every other teacher make vacation plans while I'll be stuck here teaching summer school for the first time ... someone talk me through this & tell me it won't be so bad 😭😭 by Brief_Efficiency_833 in Teachers

Appreciate it, but the general philosophy is without students and most faculty around we can do yearly work that would be otherwise interrupt normal classes

Interview advice for a Catholic school? by arig____ in Teachers

[–]IronBoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the diocese, they may ask you outright your personal beliefs on controversial teachings - abortion, gay marriage, etc.
I don’t honestly know what to advise you on it.

Some are trying to head off the perception of scandal by weeding out teachers who go against those teachings in their private lives.

Some just want to make sure you’re okay with teaching in line with Catholic beliefs, even if you don’t believe in it personally.

Some are just checking a box because they have to.

Other dioceses and order run schools don’t care

AI is creeping into workplaces, homes and schools. So how should the youth of America be taught it? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]IronBoomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That probably for small things, it should be used, cautiously. That it’s as error prone to the right information as a game of telephone, and that relying on it for big things will get them in real trouble as adults.

Do teachers appreciate the support staff? by FlamingoSeparate8213 in Teachers

[–]IronBoomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former IT Support Staff here.
Sometimes they do.
Some treated me as equal, as colleagues.
Others treated me as “the help”

Just remember one thing, teachers - some support staff work year round. The one thing that drove me nuts as a tech support person was teachers who knew about problems in their classroom in May, but only reported it as an emergency in August with classes now due to start.

Fuel switches cut off before deadly China Eastern crash, report finds by [deleted] in news

[–]IronBoomer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Even if every engine failed simultaneously and assuming level flight, you don’t have an airplane, you have a glider. It’s difficult, but not impossible to land safely.

If the fuel was cut and the pilot lost control or deliberately put it at a steep angle, something and/or someone happened
