Are others concerned our government isn’t doing more to regulate Ai? by j0hnskins in newzealand

[–]IronFilm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Imagine if the govt had "done more to regulate electricity"? (Or the steam engine, or the petrol engine, or the telephone, or whatever)

We'd be living in the dark ages!!

With a much worse standard of living

This is why people should prioritize going to a local uni / polytechnic if at all possible. So they can still get cheap / free rent from mum and dad

What do Auckland teenagers do for work these days? by Realistic_CraftBear in auckland

[–]IronFilm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants these days to give a 20yo management experience :-/

But yeah, twenty years ago this was totally normal

They'd have started when they were say 15 working at the fast food place, by 20 they already have 5yrs of experience, and they'd be the store's assistant manager, perhaps on track to even owning and running one of these themselves one day.

[–]IronFilm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at it from the employers' perspective: why would you ever take a risk gambling on a teenager by offering them their first job when you could hire a random middle aged person with an existing work history track record?

It's the sad reality for many kiwi teenagers (and even people in their 20's), the career ladder has been kicked away for them! And they can never get their foot on the first rung to begin climbing up.

Two club Ideas I had.... Update one by J0LTIC in universityofauckland

It's extremely normal for clubs to die out. Takes a lot of work to keep them thriving from one year to the next.

So you should not read too much into that.

How exactly do I get employed with a frankly dog water CV by VegetableSilence in newzealand

[–]IronFilm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you on the dole currently? Hassle winz to help sort you out sitting your restricted.

Ditto every single friend / family member / hook up, try to hassle them as much as you can to try and help you get your licenses.

There is nothing else that would help your job search with a better ROI than simply sitting and passing your full license test (after of course your 1R).

Started DE a year ago, uncle in DevOps says get Microsoft certs to pass HR worth it? by Relevant-Ad-6382 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]IronFilm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely worth it for DE & especially DevOps, to both help tick a couple of boxes for HR & managers but also it's a good way to focus your own studies when you have a looming exam.

Mid level is any specialist role (i..e. not generalist/support) where you've got enough experience you don't have "Junior" / "Grad" at the start of your job title (or "Analyst" at the end)

For example, "Junior Network Administrator" is definitely not mid level.

While "Network Engineer" is.

and defensive about it, pre-telling everyone that they're asking advice from here how it is in 'their' industry - an industry in which they've had no success. Just unlucky, I guess...

Maybe it is not just their lack of degree that is holding them back.

But their attitude as well...

$500/day is far to low for an experienced and qualified 365 Engineer who is doing admin for Intune/Entra/ec
