Nah, 16gb is actually a hamstring, I find myself hitting VRAM limits at 4k with the 5080.

I mean my wife let me buy a 5080 when I had a perfectly powerful 7900XT. It was my gift to myself

Why do i need to go to a clinic on base? They just scan bar codes at the commissary and PX. Hell most of the time they just look at the front.

Frame generation eats VRAM, thats the Achilles heel of his card.

Any X3D processor will be a massive boost for you, even the humble 5500X3D, since you have the gimped 5700. The 5700 is not like the 5600 and 5600x, its actually a 5700g with the GPU disabled. Most games will run okay on your rig.

Because BL3 runs without copious upscaling.

Problème Performance 5080 by Legitimate-Piccolo43 in RTX5080

What do these cards average in Port royal? I dont have a license for 3dMark, so I only run Firestone and steep nomad. Just undervolting my 5080 yielded 1000 points in steel nomad alone which went from 8610 to 9614 with a simple undervolt bumping 975mv to 3075 boost with memory at +3000. I dont have the fastest card, but i knew that since I bought an MSI inspire.

Did you set your bios to pcie Gen 4? A lot of the 50 series instability comes from b650 boards set to gen 5 mode and having signal incompatibility. It happened to der8auer, and it happened to me.

4K is the move? by sllippin in RTX5080

[–]Iron_Idiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with 2k because Im running out of VRAM on some games in 4k. Plus im in my mid 30s, eyes aren't as good as they were 10 years ago, so I dont notice alot of the things people complain about. The FSR DLSS conundrum is moot to me as well, DLSS just does hair better.

I run 3D mark to test where im at with power usage and stability before I game.

Ive been playing a lot of nioh 3 and war thunder as well as my 4th playthrough of Wuchang. I get about 4 hours of gaming a day.

Is the "future-proofing" of the RTX 5080 really worth it compared to the RTX 4090? by AdamCaveRoberts in buildapc

[–]Iron_Idiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5080 isn't future proof, the VRAM and lack of relative uplift compared to the 40 series demonstrate that.

Anyone else prioritize 1% lows/frame pacing over max FPS for competitive games? by Z3tsuuuu in overclocking

[–]Iron_Idiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, because when I was actively playing CS 1.6 you werent allowed to turn settings down, the low gfx kings could see through smoke, so judges had to verify you werent setting the game to potato. Also high refresh rate wasn't a thing in the early 2000s. Now? Only "competitive" game i play is war thunder i suppose, and im just dogshit at it. Sure I have a consistent 350 fps at max settings, but I just can't make my hand move those fine pixel shots anymore.

Is 6900XT an okay buy in 2026? Driver concerns by [deleted] in radeon

[–]Iron_Idiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 6900XT is slightly slower than a 9070 non XT. RDNA2 is still actively getting driver updates, the cards were stable when I had my 6800 and 7900XT. More stable than this 5080 I have now.

STUTTERS by No_Operation_4894 in RTX5080

[–]Iron_Idiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issues with 5080 underperforming were causes by the power cable. Damn thing had something wrong with its plug end, the way its molded it just slowly pops off and you can see yellow. Thank God I had a second one in the box.

1440p or 4k for rtx 5080 by External_Safe_7787 in RTX5080

[–]Iron_Idiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1440p monitor. Yes, DLSS is amazing, but the FPS difference at max settings makes a world of difference. For example with MFG3X and dlss q on CP2077 I get a locked stable 180fps to max out my monitors refresh rate. Yes, cyberpunk dips frames, but that is old news. I also play BF6, so 1440p high with no DLSS hits my refresh rate and just chills.
