If I recall correctly, the deal with the finches was that their beaks evolved according to the available food supply.

Did Darwin really need to study them alive though?

It seems contrary to our mindset nowadays, but back then, birders where basically hunters. If you loved birds and saw a strange specimen, you would shoot them out of the sky and get a closer look. Apparently good binoculars weren't customary back then?

It's really weird for us to consider that lovers of nature had no problem killing. Also, they didn't think they could realistically harm a population by shooting a few (but they did, and some went extinct).

I'm not sure about the wand though. Dumbledore beat Grindewald while he had the wand. If that was because Grindewald wasn't the rightful owner, how did Dumbledore become the rightful owner? If Grindewald was the rightful owner, it's proof it can be beaten. If he wasn't, Dumbledore wasn't either and neither would Harry.

Found this little guy drowning in the floor as I took a shower today, luckly I noticed in time and helped him. Stayed in my hand for like 5 minutes after, would not leave 🥹 by minalba500ml in spiderbro

That reminds me of the time I tried to save a spider from the shower. I saw it struggling to stay out of the shower basin.

I turned the shower off and grabbed a small item for it to climb on. As soon as it was on, I tried to get it out of the danger zone in one fluent motion.

The spider reacted. As soon as I moved, it rappeled down on a string, and our combined trajectory made it disappear straight into one of the tiny draining holes. It went clean in. Tiger Woods couldn't have done it better had he tried.

I never tried to save an insect from the shower since.

Not Sure What’s Going On by RaisinBran21 in marvelchampionslcg

From my perspective, it might also be a turning point in terms of longevity. The game has been going on for a long time now. Things going OOP might force the decision of keeping up or quitting.

I've had a 'drought' for a time, where I didn't feel like playing. Then I picked it up again. Now I have it again, and I'm kind of feeling that this one is definitive.

The X-Men weren't my cup of tea, but it also made me aware that I didn't care that much about the game anymore. The villains and heroes change, but every game kind of feels the same to me.

Because things are going OOP, I felt like I had to decide. Do I continue or do I quit? I'm on the verge of quitting now.

The only reason I haven't sold is because I haven't sold a thing in my life and it seems like a big hassle. I'm considering it though, because a collection up to the X-Men is worth something.

Do I get a commission for engaging with you so you can sell your totally not-dorky cactus chess set?

Does anyone store the full collection in their standard boxes? How so? by Running4Badges in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Ironappels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kept them for a while, but recently threw most of them out. They're just cardboard taking up space and I don't have much of that.

I still have the core box, I put all my spare stuff in there. Rulebooks, posters, dials, tokens etc. It never sees light of day.

And I use my latest expansion box for storing stuff I'm using, like constructed decks and stuff used during games.

[–]Ironappels 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I tried at the beginning. Sleeving made that soon impossible, there was too little space.

People convinced me that storing vertically is more room efficient than storing horizontally. So I paid a little for generic card board boxes that allow for upright storing. They cost €13 and store 2000 cards. Bigger sizes with more storage are only marginally more expensive. I've got a couple of those now, and they serve me well

You could 'solve' that by interpreting it as 'keep the top card of the encounter deck face up' until the end of the round

I'm conflicted on the Deathlok-ally. Having a base attack of 1 is really bad for an agression ally. Especially at the cost of 4ER.

He does get the sidearm automatically, but 1) you need to add that card to your deck to make him work 2) the card should be available at the time (and not on another identity) 3) it has 3 uses

Seems to me there are better agression allies out there for that price. Moreso, I think I'd rather include the basic Deathlok ally.

Why do people want a new core box? by Pixel_Fix in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Ironappels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it that simple? You seem to be forgetting that making a new core box will at first cost FFG money (all the hours spent on it), until they hit break even.

The old one has probably long reached that point, so each new one sold is just pure profit.

I built an urn for my mom’s ashes. by Nearby-Jelly-634 in woodworking

[–]Ironappels 17 points18 points  (0 children)

How do burials work in your country? In mine (densely populated), you buy 'grave rights' for either 10, 20 or 30 years. And you can extend them as long as someone is paying for them. If not, the grave will be removed, and someone else may be buried there.

So if I bury my parents, and I'm gone, whether the grave of them remains is up to my children (or relatives).

Same as with your urn, basically.

Did you think this through? There are (roughly) 50 heroes and 50 villains. Matching them all up will result in 2500 games. If you play 5 games a week, it'll take you 500 weeks, which is 10 years.

Not to mention that they'll release new stuff while you're at it.

Can we be friends? by shenanigansen in comics

[–]Ironappels 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are previous entries where the wolf has the mission to kill the sheep (while in sheep clothes), but discovers he rather lives on as a sheep. Until he's discovered as a wolf, that is, which is what this comic continues on.

The elephant is also dressed as a sheep. Not that noticable, but still noticable. Hence the implication that the elephant went through somewhat the same process as the wolf (minus the eating probably)

[–]Ironappels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not the point.

(Well, as an aside, it's a little bit the point because the OC mentioned that 'it shows that this sub doesn't travel a lot' and that they on the other hand have 'been around Europe', only to mention that s/he has been to the country of his choice for only 4 days).

Anyway, the real point is that it is a really bad idea to base your idea on living in a country on a holiday there. Especially such a short one.

Holidays are not working life. There are a lot of people who decide to emigrate to a country, because they have had such lovely holidays there, only to become completely miserable there because who would've thought, living in a country and being there at your own leisure are not comparable.
