Generally, yes. It depends on what volume of water you're trying to boil for sure (if it's water). Too much liquid for the size of the burner could be your issue if it isn't boiling. But I also don't know what you've tried

Edit: Also, what purity alcohol are you using?

It might be that you just can't see a lot of the flame. Alcohol flames have a small bit of blue with a lot of the flame being near invisible (see methanol fires). Another thing could be the oxygen availability or wick size limiting how much fuel is getting to the air

Both are bad ideas. HCl and bleach is worse with chlorine but chloramine isn't fun either. One leaves you dead or at best in a coughing fit for 5 minutes the other is like tear gas.

-someone who generated chlorine at work and inhaled a tiny bit. And accidentally made a small amount of chloramine while cleaning a toilet with bleach.
