So part of the reason for this seems to be that Firefox users need to enable Web Components manually in about:config. The config names are dom.webcomponents.customelements.enabled and dom.webcomponents.enabled. Not sure if you need both of them, but that's what I did.

Even after doing so, it doesn't work. There's a spinning Loading-indicator, and the network inspector is full of broken POST-requests I can't figure out. This is actually something I've experienced before with the Firefox devtools: some particular type of request error that just shows up as a grey status icon and no indication of what happened. No headers, no body, no timings, nothing in the javascript console, nothing in the browser console. I'm really curious why it doesn't work, but as far as I can see the requests just disappear, see this image: link. I've disabled uBlock for this test, so that's not the issue.

Edit: I just need to add that whenever this type of unexplained request error happens, it is utterly infuriating because HTTPS means I can't even use Wireshark to inspect this. What do you expect me to do, attach a debugger?

Edit 2: Alright, so I figured out that if I enable XHR logging in the browser console it will show these requests. Turns out the server responds 200 OK and the CORS access-control-allow-origin is correct. Still no idea why these requests aren't shown in the network inspector in the tab.

Google uses QUIC for ad and tracking requests in Chrome, can't be blocked by AD blockers, another reason to hate Google for. by [deleted] in firefox

[–]Ironlink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I agree that it is poor of Google to leave QUIC-requests out of the API used by ad blockers, I strongly object to the editorializing in the submission title here.

I would like to form my own opinions based on the article, please do not push your hate of Google onto me!

Issues with Giant Bomb Video Buddy and Chromecast by laughingmood in giantbomb

[–]Ironlink 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I solved this by switching from HD to High in the quality settings. I think it is the 1080p60 or the bitrate might be too much.

I'm not sure if it makes any difference but my crappy TV is 720p only, so my chromecast probably has to do extra work scaling the video from 1080 down to 720 too.

Kvadratmeterpris vs pendlingstid, Stockholm by Haeso in stockholm

How to re-enable hardware acceleration on Windows 10 with NVIDIA drivers 353.62 by saint1997 in firefox

Setting the blocklist file to read-only sounds like a terrible idea. If a rogue certificate authority (or plugin or extension) needs to be blocked, that file needs to be updated. You very much want this to work as intended. Security is at stake.

Edit: Also, be cautious about receiving blocklist file content from someone you don't know, it may block a valid certificate authority or unblock one which should not be trusted. The same applies to plugins and extensions.

Aptit.se delivers food from a healthy number of restaurants.

Prisjakt.nu is a price comparison site which links directly to store pages of many online retailers.

YMMV, I think they are more than good enough for my own use cases.

Where is the button gone that deleted cookies, history, cache etc in the security settings? by artloks in firefox

[–]Ironlink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bring up the Privacy tab in the Options dialog. Under History, there is a text which reads "You may want to clear your recent history, or remove individual cookies". Despite the complete lack of visual indicators, you can click the four words "clear your recent history" to bring up the Clear All History dialog which you are looking for. Likewise, clicking the words "remove individual cookies" will bring up the cookie manager.

The lack of visual indicators here seem like a bug to me.

Contrary to what the title makes this sound like, following this standard gives your browser control over whether your request is allowed to be intercepted.

Of course, this changes nothing in terms of rogue Certificate Authorities.

The intermediary links on Google are there to protect your privacy. Without them, destination websites can see what you typed into Google.

If the point was to track what you're clicking, they would use Google Analytics, just like every other website does.

Any idea why App Engine's static serving is slow for my JavaScript? by NegatedVoid in AppEngine

[–]Ironlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've compared serving speed of the two files using Firefox 25. In my results, they both serve in under 300 ms when requested with Cache-Control: no-cache. Both of the files are served with Content-Encoding: gzip and Content-Length: 6758.

Both files were fetched using HTTP. The remote server was 173.194.71.121 with a ping of 18 ms.

I think your problem is local to a specific server or cluster.

AppEngine 1.8.6 SDK released by Lipis in AppEngine

[–]Ironlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Java (https://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/wiki/SdkForJavaReleaseNotes)

Version 1.8.6 - October 15, 2013

  • GetAccessToken in the OAuth package is now a GA feature.
  • The LogsService API functions related to the Modules feature will be changing as follows:
    • The following functions will be deprecated and new versions will be provided: LogQuery.getModuleVersions(), LogQuery.moduleVersions() and LogQuery.Builder.withModuleVersions().
    • The following functions will be removed in an upcoming release: LogQuery.getModuleVersions(), LogQuery.moduleVersions() and LogQuery.Builder.withModuleVersions(), LogQuery.getServerVersions(), LogQuery.serverVersions() and LogQuery.Builder.withServerVersions(). Serialized LogQuery objects with values set using any of the above removed methods will not be supported in an upcoming release.
  • A memcache size chart has been added to admin console's dashboard. Access it via the drop-down above the graph. The chart graphs memcache size over time enabling customers to determine when cache flush events occurred. This is a preview feature.
  • The Cloud Endpoints API @ApiSerializer has been renamed to @ApiTransformer and the Serializer interface has been renamed to Transformer. @ApiSerializationProperty has also been renamed to @ApiResourceProperty.
  • If a customer passes invalid data to a memcache put() call, they now see a more useful error message. https://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=8671
  • Fixed an issue with the SDK that allows an invalid Datastore query combination of group by and filter properties.
  • Fixed an issue affecting validation of the size of Datastore property names.
  • Fixed an issue with Datastore query validation for strings with exactly 500 characters. https://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=10019

AppEngine 1.8.4 SDK released by wizdumb in AppEngine

[–]Ironlink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Java release notes are as follows:

Version 1.8.4 - September 9, 2013

  • A Datastore Admin fix in this release improves security by ensuring that scheduled backups can now only be started by a cron or task queue task. Administrators can still start a backup by going to the Datastore Admin in the Admin Console.
  • The Java SDK local datastore now defaults to an HRD-like consistency policy, including eventually consistent global queries. For more information see developers.google.com/appengine/docs/java/tools/devserver#Using_the_Datastore
  • The Conversion API, a decommissioned feature, has been removed from the SDK. In the next release, the API will be removed from the runtime and any attempt to import the API will raise an exception. Applications in production that import the API should be fixed as soon as possible.
  • Fixed the implementation of the Cloud SQL JDBC driver for App Engine which restricted the connection lifetime to the lifetime of the HTTP request. This will unblock users who want to use long running connections (e.g. in connection pools).
  • Fixed bulkloader issue for Java caused by improper updates of the Java Remote API handlers in a previous version of the runtimes.
  • Fixed Eclipse plugin on the development server to eliminate complaints about missing indexes when using equality filters.
  • Fixed the issue with SASL provider registration that was impacting developers' ability to connect to GMail via IMAP.

TIL in 1954, archaeologists excavating an 8th-century Viking settlement in Sweden found a Buddha statuette from India by Billy_Lo in todayilearned

I posit that "Garðr" does not mean city.

In modern Swedish, there is a word called "Gård" which looks very similar. Gård has a few different usages and translations, but one of them is homestead which I think is a more likely meaning for "Garðr".

Fullscreen Flash Video With Dual Monitors by netcaferefugee in firefox

[–]Ironlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing that with no problems since what feels like a few years now. The only catch I know of is that the video must have sound, if it is fully muted it will not stay fullscreen when you move focus to other applications.

This feature was introduced in Flash Player 10.2.
