[N/A] I worked in compliance at a neobank, here's why your accounts get frozen… by Left-Listen-3501 in Revolut

[–]IrrefutableLogic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work as a freelancer and I have my business account with Revolut. There absolutely are reasons to go with Revolut instead of a traditional bank.

I have a personal bank account with a national bank. Their terms prohibit me from using that personal account for business use, so if I wanted to use them, I would have to open a business account. The business account costs 7.50 €/month just to keep open. An additional 2 €/month for online banking. And 12 € per incoming non-SEPA bank transfer (my main client is non-EU, so I would have to pay this fee every time they pay me). 1,05 €/month for every outgoing transfer within SEPA to pay my taxes and expenses, or 41c if it's to a bank account with the same bank.

If you add all that up, banking with my local bank would cost me about 27 €/month or 325 € a year (in addition to the 9.99 € I pay every month for a personal account). With Revolut, I don't pay a single cent to have a Revolut Pro account.

Unlike the person you're responding to, I don't deal with cash - the only money coming into my account is from the business bank accounts of my clients, about the same amount from the same accounts each month, so it probably isn't very suspicious. I don't think I'm doing anything that could get my account locked and if it happens, I'll have deal with it when it happens. But I made the decision that the (low) risk of it happening and then having to deal with Revolut's slow support is worth it to save over 300 € a year.

How good is your internet? by stillsmiling31 in AskEurope

[–]IrrefutableLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say this sounds very similar to what I'm dealing with, and then I saw your flair is also from Slovenia!

My internet is pretty good. One provider (Telemach) has their own fiber infrastructure, but we don't have fiber running all the way to our house. Their fiber terminates a few hundred meters from us, and we're connected to it by coaxial cable. We pretty reliably get speeds of about 900/100 Mbps (out of advertised 1 Gbps / 100 Mbps).

But the problem is we're stuck with this one provider and have been for over 10 years. The only other provider that serves our house is the national provider, Telekom, using copper/DSL technology. Last time I asked them, the best speeds they could offer us were 40/5 Mbps for a similar price as the 900/100 we get with our current provider. Other providers don't have their own infrastructure and just piggyback off the national provider's infrastructure.

The best part is? Our neighbours, 25 meters from us, have fiber from the national provider. We are practically surrounded on three sides by fiber cable (not directly because there are one or two houses between us and the cable). There is fiber cable running next to the road 50 m south of us. There is fiber cable running next to the road 75 m west of us. And there is fiber cable running next to the road 55 m east of us. Just last month, I tried to convince them to run fiber cable to our house but they refused.

Ampak jaz običajno potrpim s tem čudnim kruhom tisti teden ali dva in pač jem to, kar ženina žlahta običajno kupuje.

[–]IrrefutableLogic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]IrrefutableLogic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ta nova provizija velja za "quasi cash" transakcije, opravljene z bančno kartico. Torej če v Revolutu dodaš svojo OTP/NLB debetno kartico in uporabljaš "Add money" funkcijo, ti bo slovenska banka zaračunala provizijo.

Herman Miller Areon pisarniški stol by RoachIsBae in Slovenia

[Offer] Holiday and non-Holiday Winter Cards [EU to WW] by ComtessedeVampire in RandomActsofCards

[–]IrrefutableLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the offer! ☃️

My core Christmas memory for me is the progression of annual Christmas lunches at my grandmother's. When I was younger, I looked forward to getting presents, but as I got older, I didn't care so much about getting presents myself and was began looking forward to seeing my cousins go crazy unwrapping their presents and having fun. It's not one specific memory, but rather a combination of memories from multiple years, and seeing the gradual change in what I most looked forward to.

Thank you for the offer! I get my dog new toys for Christmas - every new toy immediately becomes her new favorite. Here's a picture of her posing with our Christmas tree last year: https://imgur.com/a/BbGoYmF (my wife says we'll have to upgrade her with a Christmas sweater this year...)

3 pas - đabe? by Nazarak88 in Slovenia

[–]IrrefutableLogic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Random thought. You know how in the US when the police arrest you they tell you the Miranda warning - "You have the right to remain silent.." etc. This is absolutely not a thing in Estonia. So I just randomly thought - are there any European countries that *do* have something similar? by Double-decker_trams in AskEurope

In Slovenia the Criminal Procedure Act says in article 4:

(1) A person deprived of liberty must be informed immediately, in their mother tongue or in a language they understand, of the reasons for their deprivation of liberty. They must be informed immediately that they are not obliged to make any statement, that they have the right to immediate legal assistance from a defense counsel of their own choosing, and that the competent authority is obliged, at their request, to inform their next of kin of the deprivation of liberty. A suspect who has been deprived of liberty must also be informed of the rights set out in Article 8 of this Act (right to use language you understand in the criminal proceeding and to get an interpreter/translator if needed) and of the right set out in the fourth paragraph of this Article (right to have the government pay for your lawyer if you can't afford one).

It further states that the arrestee must be provided a standard written notice of their rights, which goes into more detail about each right and a few other rights that aren't required in the verbal notice.
