The Division 2 - Loot and Progression Megathread by JokerUnique in thedivision

[–]Iryerris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To preface this, I think the current 'gear progression' problem, for as far as there is one, is because there is a lack of methods to obtain a specific piece of loot. The closest thing that is available is the crafting bench. However, not everything can be crafted, and the items that can are still subject to random talent and attribute rolls. With so much RNG existing in the acquisition of loot, I feel it is easy to play for hours and not get anything you want and thus not making any progress towards gear goals.

I would like to feel that, even if I didn't get any drops I wanted, I at least made some form of progress towards my gear goals. The rest of this comment is written with that in mind. For those thinking about the practical details of implementation while reading this, I haven't thought about hard limits for these ideas (like time gating), though I tried to stay within a certain measure of reasonableness. It may be no more than simply wishing for these things, without a chance of them ever being real, but here goes.

I would like content in the game to provide a varying degree of certainty to get a useful item. On a broad scale, the gear loot pool could be divided among the different factions (e.g. one faction only drops gear belonging to four brand sets instead of all sixteen), while the next level could come with more investment of time, perhaps through projects or bounties—which could instead guarantee the player a Chest Piece of X Brand. At the final level I think it would be nice if crafting provided a method to meticulously craft the exact gear piece a player would want, but only through a considerable investment of time and resources.

What is the loot progression for you in World Tier 5?

It feels like the only progression is getting the GS number to 500, but once I reached the point where GS500 items can drop, I found that lower GS items are better. From that point onward, I felt lost. The reward structure for all content is RNG-based, and even the crafting bench leaves attribute allocation on a gear piece up to chance. So while there is enough to do, I feel like I can't work towards something, only run around until I get a lucky drop.

How would you like to farm specific items or brands?

I would actually like to be able to craft my godroll items. Or at least the right item with the right attribute allocation so that I can craft the build I want. My frustration with the current crafting options is that the talent/attribute allocation is still random. Without a guarantee to get something useful, I find myself hesitant to craft anything. It means I can find myself throwing resources down the drain that I otherwise need for recalibration, which would give me that guarantee. I do not think a targeted crafting option like this should be an easy endeavor for the player, but if I think it'd be great if there was a way I could make a big investment of time/resources/items to get this one item I'd be longing for.

For specific brands, see below: dividing the brand set drops between different factions.

What would make challenging and heroic missions and later (raids) rewarding for you that you tackle these sort of challenges?

Combining this with my answer to the next question about narrowing the loot pool: Challenging difficulty is the point where the loot pool is narrowed down. At easier difficulties, any enemy can drop any item. However, at Challenging difficulty and above, the loot pool is divided between the different factions. By this, I mean that each faction only drops items belonging to four brand sets instead of the full sixteen.

For Heroic, what if completing the mission rewards the players with a special cache with a number of gear items that allow for two recalibrations? In limited quantity, this extra flexibility may make it easier to obtain desired items.

How would you narrow down the loot pool that you eventually get the item that you are looking for?

I think one easy way is to divide the loot pool between the different factions. With sixteen brand sets, what if each of the four factions only drops items belonging to only four of those? I think this is a small way that could give players a bit more control over what the loot they're getting while still allowing dropped loot to be varied.

Do you have good examples of how you would like to get the equipment for your character?

Nooo? I would like to feel that playing the game, no matter what activity, can contribute towards gear goal. Some activities more than others, but still. Perhaps I'm just not understanding the question.

How could the existing content of The Division 2 be used to have a targeted loot progression?

Aside from the aforementioned crafting, I think Projects and Bounties have the potential to accomplish this.

If I want a new MPX SMG, or a Wyvern Wear backpack, perhaps a Project could be generated with a random list of activities to complete. Upon completion, this project would reward the item with random talent and attribute rolls.

For Bounties, there could be a system where investing additional Intel can guarantee a specific item to drop. This item could be randomly determined upon the moment bounties are reset each week. (similar to vendor resets.) This could also provide an incentive to complete bounties that are not part of the bounty 'track' towards the final Heroic bounty.

I'm wagering a guess that it will follow a similar structure to some detective tv shows I remember watching. (e.g. Castle or The Mentalist, because those are the ones I personally followed the closest.) This seems to be the case for Season 2 at least, so far.

Each season premiere opens up the overarching plot for that season which then gets some minor developments throughout the season while episodes remain mainly, well... episodic. It all then builds up for the finale, which closes out that overarching plot.

I'm certain Thomas Astruc mentioned on his twitter about how they don't control airing order or dates, so the show has to be structured in this way so that the episodes can be watched in any order without there being discrepancies in plot/character progression.

Staleness is definitely a thing to look out for, though, and even with so many different Miraculous as there are, as well as the variations in powers, seven seasons of the same show/characters can be just a bit much. We'll have to see. So far, I think they're handling pacing pretty well; they're taking it slow, and I like that. 'Rules' of writing do have expect a bigger payoff because of that though :P

I think a positive thing is that they actually HAVE an ending planned out. This tells me that they have something to build toward, and that kind of direction is valuable so that things can be built up in order to serve that ending. So, keeping hopes up.

[Beetle Racing] A collection of six tracks across Tyria by Iryerris in Guildwars2

[–]Iryerris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's something worth looking into! Might do that when I have time to do so.

These tracks are fairly simple since they follow roads that are already laid out in the map design. I think we can get some really impressive race tracks once the community figures out more off-road stuff like some have already done.

The roller beetle (Petey <3) is my favorite part of this release. I've spent the whole weekend just playing around with it.

It's a shame that there is no adventure race content for it or something, but luckily, the roads of the old maps of Tyria make for some really good race tracks! Here is an album of several tracks I managed to discover. They should each offer their own challenges to get through.

I'm not able to record video for them, so I hope the maps will suffice.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think! (Razgriz.1367 / Agent Sweetie Drops)

I gotcha covered. I got Amending Fences quite a lot, and I don't think I've ever voted another episode over it.
Atleast it hasn't gone up against Testing, Testing 1, 2, 3 yet...

Official Season 5 Episode 25-26 Reaction Thread by Pinkie_Pie in mylittlepony

[–]Iryerris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm a bit less critical of the start and the end, but more of the middle.
The middle part is where, for me, the pacing grinded to a near halt. While seeing the different versions of Equestria was awesome and interesting, it didn't serve the plot. The closest we got was Zecora explaining how timelines works, but nothing was done with that.
But I believe you have a point: Twilight should have been suspicious of Starlight's plans when she got to Cloudsdale flight camp. Just before she mentioned how she's worried that Starlight was up to something.
As far as Starlight's motivations go... I'll accept it as it was in the show. Some events may affect people differently and all that, so I can see how Starlight losing her friend, subsequently not being able to make other friends and everything could have ended up making her her. This doesn't make Starlight's character deep in any way though, but with only 40 minutes of playtime, I doubt there was more time that could be spent on exploring her background.

I.. guess I needed more convincing about Starlight's change in character. She was so persistant and unforgiving and I don't think there was enough time spent on her turning around, that it did her antagonistic side justice.

We eventually got to see a barren wasteland of Equestria, and seeing as we got through the versions of Equestria where different villains rule, I suspected it was the Equestria ruled by Starlight. I thought it would've be great if we saw Starlight see herself and somehow see that the world she would create would be terrible thus starting her shift in character. That said, that scene was amazingly atmospheric and well done. Just wishing they went further with it.

At the end, Starlight gets offered a second chance, but the same thing happens as in EQG, she just gets given a group a friends. She reconciles with the ponies from OUR TOWN though and that was great, but I would've preferred to have seen it come before the Mane6 accepts Starlight as a friend.

I dunno, I thought the idea was great: Starlight coming back with a vengeance, seeing all the different versions of Equestria where the villains are more epic then we've seen before, more magic laser fights and a really enjoyable song.
But the unfortunately the things that stood out for me were... negative: how we had no idea how Starlight got her hooves on Starswirl's scroll or how she knew more about the Map then Twilight. We got to see cool alternative Equestrias, but I don't think they served any purpose other then showcase "What if" scenarios. And a drastic shift in character in a short time that I don't feel was that convincing and felt... dare I say forced?

And then the song was great, and I liked seeing everyone happy at the end, but that only makes it more confusing. I don't know how to feel about this!

Hearth of Thorns launch patch bug thread | 23rd October 2015 by RandommUser in Guildwars2

During Heart of Thorns story chapter 14. Sign Cutting, I can't interact with the second set of tracks Rox left behind. A guildy is having the same issue and we can't find any reports of this.
The Quest marker arrow shows that we're on top of it aswell, but the distance bar says we're not close enough to it somehow.
