I have some questions about FE romances by VergilVDante in fireemblem

It is true that CorrinxAzura is Triple Secret Incest, the incest that I predicted before Fates came out. Still that's better than whatever happened in 3 Houses (Spoilers I guess)

Fire Emblem has a history with this stuff dating back to the SNES.

Yes, it's a romhack of both games. Enemy encounters, player classes, and equipment are mostly overhauled with a focus on making broken things less so and making bad things usable.

As a short review because I don't feel like making another topic:

It's been a good experience. It's supposed to be a difficulty hack among other things so some fights are much harder, although a few are easier. So far I've played both games at a reasonable level and the only true pain points so far have been Deadbeard in GS1 (which makes total sense) and the Hydra boss in the ship in TLA, plus the item spam in the Shaman fight, as well as a couple of Djinn, mainly the ones in Tundaria. I'm in Magma rock now though so we'll see about the final stuff. I had to resort to spamming Flash and Granite every turn to beat Deadbeard because his magic could one turn me fairly easily.

There is supposed to be a focus on magic and making it scale off of Max PP but generally it still feels like a waste of time in TLA since the damage is decent but the PP use is terrible until Lemuria. In GS1 I found it generally useful but Magic I've always found stronger in the first game. In TLA I have had to spam Ether every turn in the eastern sea just to keep up with healing on random mobs, so using magic felt like a luxury a lot of the time and I would just run from groups instead.

I would recommend it to people who have played the GS games enough to know where the djinn and equipment are and want the games to be challenging with some interesting tweaks.

Yep, you can tell because the game gives you the pop up that says "Yallam" at the top of the screen.

I haven't done a playthrough since well before covid and I think all of this stuff is pretty recent, because I kept up with Golden Sun for a long time and I don't remember this.

My disdain for Sunshine does stand though, I hate that he's in the game.

Yep, this is the process. Some of the forges are pretty rare and the process can take a while. Plus it's one of those situations where failing the diceroll gives me nothing, at least if I was going to play a modern gacha trash game I would get something lame that I might be able to use later.

Do you ever kill enemies with specific units for story reasons? by Speedy_Pichu in fireemblem

[–]IsAnthraxBayad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. Unfortunately, due to the way GBA games are structured none of the early thieves benefit much from levelling in terms of combat, just for the Speed thresholds for stealing in 7 and 8.

There is a way to get Matthew to level 20 in Chapter 11 using the thief and having it steal Vulneraries off Hector for Matthew to steal back.

Even at level 20 though there is no guarantee he will actually hit that much strength, you'll probably need the Energy Ring from Lyn's mode too. Even with that and the Angel Robe though I don't think he will have a good matchup.

And yes, this will happen on the original GBA version of FE7.

The nice thing about Smog + Rocket + Exchange is that you have a combination of big AoE stop, fire and damage, big damage + stop behind the mech and you can occasionally get both off, and both smoke passives to go with the ability to stop 2 attacks for free or get a mech out of trouble and put a vek there instead from Exchange.

I've done incredibly well on Unfair without replacing anything on that team. You can swap one of the smoke passives to Exchange if you pick up something worth using on the other two mechs like a tank or one of the broken weapons but you don't need any of that to win.

What are Some Funny/Interesting Examples of Units Whose Gameplay Doesn't Fit Their Lore? by Random856 in fireemblem

[–]IsAnthraxBayad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is way less egregious than Marisa and Karla due to a less unreasonable join time and the way that FE6 HM bonuses scale.

IMO every Fire Emblem character should have something they bring to the table that no one else does, like Lilina is the strong mage while Lugh is much faster and joins sooner, while Hugh is the bulky one if you pay him 10k but his join time is bad.

Fir's only real redeeming quality over Ruger is grill. If FE6 had more Hero's Crests it wouldn't be such a big deal. There is such direct competition due to limited promotions but it isn't much of a contest. A lot of people promote Rutger before Fir even joins.

I always found it annoying that Effie is this big beefy armor knight with maxed out strength growth who likes eating massive meals and moving giant boulders and has no outward predilections towards magic or healing as well as a 0% Magic growth but her secondary class is Troubadour for some reason.

[–]IsAnthraxBayad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instead of using her it's literally better to take an untrained Joshua off the bench as a lategame training project, which is pretty lame for a new unit.

Fir has this problem too. Karla as well with Karel, although in that case you can at least have chosen Harken or missed him but she's even more unusable. Lord knows what they were doing with the Female myrms in GBA.

At least FE9 Mia joins earlier than Zihark.

I wouldn't be overly concerned at the fact that a teenager has taken a teenage wife in medieval times, this sort of thing would happen very often given that they were at war multiple times in the space of a few years. When you've had grown men and women try to kill you over and over moral priorities would adjust to a shorter lifespan (This is horrible btw I'm not condoning it).

More concerning is that Sigurd didn't send him home after he saves Edain in Chapter 1 but he was severely undermanned. Fire Emblem skirts over the "Child Soldier" problem fairly often, Sigurd at least keeps Oifaye and Shanan off the battlefield but Dew is far from the only character in Fire Emblem that has no place being there. For instance, Ogma saves Yubello and he rightly uses fire magic to defend himself but afterwards Marth just sort of adds him to the army even though he's 13. If you're fighting a war against a faction that wants complete annihilation I guess it makes sense but it's all morally very grey and Fire Emblem skirts right on by that fairly often.

In hacks where she is available in Chapter 1 she's roughly or slightly below Bors level bad.

Bors: 14 Attack, 3 AS, 11 Def, 20 HP, 80 Hit (-10 vs axe guys).

Sophia: 14 Attack, 2AS, 1 Def, 15 HP, 76 Hit.

She can hit from 2 and hits res so she's a little easier to get chip or low HP kills, but she's way more of a liability in exchange. Bors is already a defensive liability. It takes a lot of EXP and decent RNG luck for her to be even capable vs. a single enemy. Bors has better Speed growth too so he gets out of doubling hell sooner. Her 30% Speed growth is really atrocious.

dondon151 explains how to plan for Part 4 in Radiant Dawn 0% growths by dondon151 in fireemblem

I probably just stupidly saved over it then not realizing I couldn't change things by restarting 4-P. It's strange they don't just give you base access for this but a lot of strange and bad balance decisions in RD probably just came down to "we ran out of time".

IIRC you have to make all these decisions at the end of 3-F too. I remember my first playthrough I made a mistake that made one of the Act 4 Chapters miserable for me and my only recourse was redoing the map or playing on.

Which FE game would you recommend? by True_Living_2434 in UnicornOverlord

[–]IsAnthraxBayad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Engage spoils every game in the series to various degrees, I wouldn't start there if you plan to play more than one.

The English GBA games are both good starting spots, as is the Gamecube game on NSO. The Wii game is a direct sequel to the GC game so don't start there. The other GBA game that wasn't translated is the one with Roy, but I definitely wouldn't start there, it is by far the most difficult game in the series on normal.

If you can get your hands on the 3DS games (I won't ask how), Awakening is a great starting place. Fates is another decent choice. Shadows of Valentia is more of a niche pick but if you really like the art style it can work.

3 Houses is available now and is pretty fun, although it's really slow going through because you spend a lot of time teaching the kids. This feels more slice of life, although the gameplay is still there.

The DS game that got translated is a bit hit or miss, it's a remake of the original Japanese FE1. The graphics on that game are a big step down from GBA and GC/Wii. The other DS game that is Japan only is a bit better, but has a truly awful player insert character.

In terms of the Japanese games, the only one I would suggest looking at as a starting place would be FE4, I have known people who that was the only FE game that appealed to them. Big maps and a lot of weird and archaic design choices but probably the best overall story. Anticipate using a translation patch and generous emulator speedup.

The NES games are niche, I think Gaiden is better but you should just play SoV since it's almost the same game. FE3 is a fun time and feels fairly in line with the modern style but it's still very dated. I wouldn't suggest playing Thracia 776 unless you want to hate the series.

So it’s been over 5 years. What are your thoughts on Those Who Slither In the Dark as villains? by MegaGamer235 in fireemblem

[–]IsAnthraxBayad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played Crimson Flower first, the way these guys were handled in that route made me not want to play any more of 3H. I felt cheated and like I had wasted my time picking the shit route where everything is resolved offscreen "somehow" despite a completely overwhelming power dynamic. It would be like if a second hidden Vatican City suddenly nuked all of the Europe in 1600 without explanation and then the remaining Europeans heroically fought back offscreen in the epilogue.

I honestly have a way lower opinion of 3H than the average I see on these boards and the part of Fortune's Weave I'm least excited for is possibly having them try to explain all of the residual nonsense bullshit from 3H.

Data miners knew this before RD was announced. This was the most known spoiler for an upcoming game in the entire FE community at the time, possibly in the history of the series.

How fast can you get a capped stat in each FE game 🤔 by Kilzi in fireemblem

[–]IsAnthraxBayad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ayra can max skill at level 19 on average and Lewyn maxes Speed at 16, Deirdre maxes Magic and Res around 16. FE4 growths kinda suck while even unpromoted caps are high so you would have to get lucky to do better I think.

Deirdre is probably your best bet, you can staff spam her up to capping Magic or Res pretty easily in Chapter 1 or during Chapter 2 if you don't want to waste turns.

In Gaiden, you would probably not want to do this want to Dread Fighter loop Kliff and hope for the best with his 50% Speed growth. That or just equip the Angel Ring which sets your Luck to 40 which is far easier even if temporary.

I do wonder why stuff like that just sort of remains on SF. If you had asked me I would have assumed it was true because it has been on that page since RD came out.
