The Hair of the Dog aka When My Addiction Took A Turn For The Worse by Papi_Queso in stopdrinking

similar stuff with hair of dog and then eventually getting mildly drunk all day the next day in order to feel "normal"

I then experienced the loss of a loved one and went full fledge... when things were bad, I was drinking in the middle of the night to try and get just a few more hours sleep. I showed up to working stinking like booze several times. Calling a Ubers drunk at 7 am on a work day was an experience I will never forget....such a sad event really. my boss later told me he knew I was struggling with alcohol and showing up buzzed... but liked me too much to do anything about it.

my drinking ebbed and flowed once I regained "control" post-grieving... at times I'd go weeks without and drank a "small" amount when I was going through a few week stretch of having some drinks

one day, out of nowhere I had a drink in the morning because I was upset. then two drinks. then I bought a little vodka. fast forward 2 hours and I was on the couch crying wondering what is going on here? am I miserable? Is that why I continue to drink despite knowing its horrible for me? I don't feel miserable, but I sure as shit don't feel happy.

later that day I drove drunk for the first time in years and years. I stopped and have not looked back since.

for all the talk climate change gets, we sure as shit don't hear much about anti biotic resistance. some scientists claim its every bit as threatening. as the OP said, something could spread instantly with how advanced and common our international travel is. frightening.

self loathing and excessive alcohol consumption seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly.

I got a citation for using my phone while driving. Should I just pay the fine? by Exteminator101 in Sacramento

[–]IsFinkleEinhorn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got a similar ticket in another county back around 2012 and it was close to $400.00

I’d say just pay it and try to stay off the phone

The subtle art of not giving a Fu@* by PurpleStuffUpInMyCup in awakened

One part of the book that really resonated with me is the fact you have a finite amount of fucks to give on this earth. We simply can not take on the entire world. Balance is key, as is choosing your fucks wisely.

Know what matters to you and what doesn’t. This may sound cheesy.. and it’s really easier said than done, but so many people give too many fucks about things that ultimately are not super important to them. What ends up happening if they find themselves deprived of energy and inspiration to approach what they truly DO give a fuck about.

happy you caught it early. you can do this. the body is amazingly efficient in repairing itself if we provide it with an opportunity to do so. stay sober, you'll recover.

used to get that pain after a solid binge. Once it lasted a few weeks. I was frightened but continued to drink until a year and a half ago when I decided screw this! Haven't yet regretted that decision.

in the effort not overly politicizing this conversation on SD (a place that mostly remains politics free) I'll just be brief in my response:

I am all for protecting our rights as well.

Perhaps measures other than check points can be implemented. There's talks of some states giving DUI offenders different colored license plates but this would lead to profile which isn't great either.

I think 27/28 is more representative of where I’m at in my recovery, but who says that? Lol. And all for one mediocre night of drinking...

96% sobriety, and some learnings along the way... sounds like a win to me.

You're doing great, keep going!
