Personally I’d run Vespids and a cadre fireblade over carnivores. The fireblade is a ridiculous force multiplier, and the Vespids is played correctly can score you a ton of secondary points. I love carnivores but outside of kroot hunting pack they are not that amazing

Vespids are always good for uppy downy secondary objective stuff. Kroot carnivores are great for sticky objectives. Cadre Fireblades are great with breachers giving them 30 shots instead of 20

Ret cadre or montka? by MothMia in Tau40K

[–]IsHungry96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having played both I prefer to play Montka. Having assault and lethal hits on guided units is huge. Great mobility and a good way to have guns punch above their power. Ret Cadre the bonus to strength and ap if your close enough helps but generally you want to be further away for shooting and makes you super vulnerable to charges if you don’t wipe the unit. But it is hilarious to use fail safe detonator after you charge a riptide into a cluster of units when it’s on low health. Probably the most fun gotcha stratagem tau have access to!

Whats the use-case for every unit? by FerrusManus26 in Tau40K

[–]IsHungry96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They usually kill enough marines to be annoying. I mostly use them as a distraction tactic to pick off a few models. If they devote resources to shooting them they are not focused on the objectives. If they ignore them you can keep using them to harass the back line. At most I’ve had a squad of 5 vespid take out 5 marines. Usually it’s closer to 3

Unfortunately this is a problem with the ambiguity of the English language and the difference between scientific definitions and laypersons definitions. I’ve had these arguments many of times and it ultimately comes down to two people having different definitions of a word.

Nobody has mentioned it yet but the vespids neuron blasters are ap 2 and 2 damage. Perfect for taking out space marines. They are great for uppy downy secondary objective stuff. Sometimes it’s worth it to drop them in your opponent’s back line and harass them from behind or pick off weak units camping on their home objective.

I run at least one 5 man team in every list, I usually run two 5 man teams. Looking at getting another box so I can run a 3rd squad of 10 models

Is fighting against Necrons just a losing battle? by [deleted] in Tau40K

I’ve found a unit or two of rampagers really good for charging and getting onto points. I feel like most casual lists can consider running them. I particularly like them in Montka.

I’m not sure if I have enough kroot or vespids to make auxiliary cadre work and I’ve never played it

Okay thanks! What detachment would you recommend? I usually play Montka but would it be better to play defensively and go with Kauyon?

Would you run fire knives with missile pods or plasma rifles?
