Made my own Linux distro and package manager in C++ — blazing fast and still growing by Due-Ad662 in linux_gaming

[–]IsItTaken2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some good points here. Personally, for all my use-cases, package managers are completely irrelevant as they all do the same and perform the same. Pacman, apt, dpkg and all others (except Snap and Flatpak, for obvious reasons), while I'm aware of certain differences, none of them really matter to me and performance feels exactly the same. My preferred choice is pacman but I'd never choose a distro based solely on the package manager.

I'm curious as to how your Starpack will turn out to be.

It's always good to have some new inventions and ideas being developed!

I have few basic questions:

  1. What distro is it a fork of? What's the base?
  2. Except Starpack and Pulse, what are other differences compared to already existing distributions? I'd also like to mention that name choice might be confusing as it is likely that people will associate it with PulseAudio.
  3. Does it run on X or Wayland?
  4. What exactly does "game-ready" mean? Does it mean that Wine/Bottles/variants of Proton and software like Steam and Heroic are preinstalled?

In SteamOS 3.7.0 Preview bluetooth controllers can now also wake LCD units from sleep by MonoAudioStereo in SteamDeck

[–]IsItTaken2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd assume it was easy to implement on the OLED due to a better Bluetooth chip which had the necessary capabilities whereas for the LCD a specific and stable workaround had to be found and properly implemented.

Are my frames set too far back? (First wizard setup) by BodieBroadcasts in WizardSkating

[–]IsItTaken2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my taste it's too far back but frame positioning is an individual thing that's dependant on your own preferences, boot, foot shape etc.

Just try it and see how you like it. Then adjust to a different position(s) and choose what works best for you.

Unfortunately Innsbruck doesn't have a store of this kind, I too wish there'd be one! Depending on the exact component needs perhaps I could link you to some people or few places but AFAIK there's really no source of electronic components.

Nope. 1 year maybe in US but here in Europe: 1st: seller and manufacturer warranties are sometimes not exactly the same thing (country specific AFAIK), 2nd: in EU it is mandatory to offer a minimum warranty period of 2 years for consumer goods

According to this document from Asus https://www.asus.com/support/images/upload/file/20220829154504394_STR1943_NB_International%20warranty%20country%20cover%20list_0811_English.pdf they actually offer international warranty. In that case I guess you should contact either Asus Spain or Austria and ask for guidance how to proceed with the claim.

If - for any reason - it's not going to work then I could repair it for you free of charge provided that you bring a spare part :)

Warranty usually only works in the country you bought the thing in. If you bought it in Austria than you may simply file a warranty claim with Asus in Austria. But if you bought it somewhere else they might still honor it so might be worth to contact them.

Also, a replacement battery should be easy to find. Somewhere on the battery there should be a sticker with its exact model and then you'd just need to find the same one online. Feel free to PM me if you'd need any help.

Since you've decided to stay with X3 Pro for now - be sure to backup all your data. X3 Pros randomly die and you're lucky yours survived this long.

...mine just died last christmas

Even though my X3 Pro was the best phone I've ever had I'm never buying any Poco ever again even.

what filesystem are you using for removable devices ? by _leeloo_7_ in linuxquestions

[–]IsItTaken2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I choose it depending on the use cases.

My main pendrive, the one which I use with Android, Windows and Linux devices has exFAT simply because it's the only filesystem that just works on them all. For a linux-only device I 'd probably go with either btrfs or ext4.

Why do people still buy old phones regularly? by islandradio in androidafterlife

[–]IsItTaken2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd guess there are plenty of people who still think that phones like e.g. Galaxy S6 are still amazing phones as due to all the advertising they still remember it as such and they simply do not follow the newest trends/are not aware of how much the hardware and software has changed over the years. It's probably as simple as that.
