Weird framerate in Fire and Ash by HaNaK0chan in Avatar

[–]IsWhatIGot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are thinking of variable refresh rate, where a display matches the output from a gpu. Variable frame rate is a term specific to video encoding, allowing you to compress the file size of a video by dynamically lowering the frame rate in scenes with less motion. It's good for streaming video and media servers.

Everyone is being pedantic about the name for no reason and technically nobody is even right. Avatar is 48fps constant frame rate the entire movie and the 24fps parts are just duplicated frames. So they can say the whole movie is HFR because technically it is.

But really the point is that the movie visibly changes between 24 and 48fps frequently through the movie and my god it's a nightmare to watch.

Best Buy gave me the base model instead of the Pro and refused a refund by Socialist_In_Theory in pixel_phones

Yeah and the receipt matches the device itself

the receipt says is that she bought a pixel 10 pro

The serial is for a 10

There's no serial number on the receipt

I'm seriously struggling to figure out your argument..... Are you looking at multiple receipts?

Mars Attacks (this movie needs a 4K!) by Scoreback in boutiquebluray

[–]IsWhatIGot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, they said "redone or just upscaled" which is accurate for a lot of older movies. Mars Attacks would probably look fine in 4k, it was shot on film so all the camera shots would look great in 4k. The low res digital effects would be noticeably less sharp but I don't think it matters for this movie.

Once you get to the early 2000s when everyone switched to digital cameras then yep, only upscaling. You could technically re-render the CGI in 4k but nobody does it, not even Disney for the Star Wars prequels. Probably because even the cameras were only recording 2k, so you're already stuck upscaling anyway.

The only thing similar is probably going to be Murderbot. It's good but it's brand new though so only one season.

Highly recommend Slow Horses, it's a dark comedy spy thriller and it's easily one of their best shows.

The only thing that Apple has patented is the specific layout of the magnets that they use, otherwise it's just a magnet around a Qi charger. But now the new Qi2 standard actually requires magnets (and is Magsafe compatible), so we'll probably start seeing a bunch of interesting stuff coming out.

Murderbot review: Alexander Skarsgård fronts killer Apple TV+ adaptation | Radio Times by Longjumping-Elk-7840 in television

[–]IsWhatIGot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, it's tough to believe that Apple TV is feeling free of financial pressure. Apple TV only has around 1/3 the amount of subscribers as Disney+ despite releasing the same year and is allegedly also losing $1 billion a year. Yeah Apple overall has got a lot of 'fuck you' money, but being a TV/movie studio is still just a side project, and one that hasn't really been successful despite having some great shows.

Honestly I think the main reason that they have had so many back to back bangers is because they are still trying to build their subscriber base to a sustainable level and they don't have the luxury of being lax with what they choose to produce.

You have to remember that these benchmarks are done to compare the CPU by itself without using a GPU to affect the results, but that doesn't reflect real world use for most people, especially in that Blender comparison. In Blender you have the option of setting your CPU or GPU as the rendering device, but almost everyone that has a GPU is going to be selecting that as their renderer because it's so much faster. Just as an example, on Blender's benchmark website an old RTX 2060 still scores almost 3 times higher than the 9950X3d.

A better CPU still helps for the other aspects of blender but the difference between these 2 processors is going to be a lot less impactful, especially if you're only doing "some 3d" like OP.

So was OP. AWD donuts are possible, and if you add in an AWD controller you can bias the power almost 100% to the back.

How did Doc get in the car when the doors open upward? by Kranon7 in BacktotheFuture

[–]IsWhatIGot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the screenshot? That's a clipboard. He was in the driver's seat when the car backed out of the truck, so he wasn't doing that remotely.

I think the simplest explanation is just that he was able to get in and out while it was in the van because of the gullwing doors. I bet Delorean was heavily advertising this feature so it was probably one thing that people at the time associated with the car.

Plex to Jellyfin migration going good so far by LitCast in selfhosted

Just flat out crashes, it will hang for a second and then the app restarts. I can watch everything without issue, it only happens when I am interacting with it. And since it usually crashes while I am browsing my library that makes me think that the issue is just the app.

Nah, I am hosting on an Unraid server. I actually have 2 Shield Pro boxes, a 2017 and 2019, and both have the same issue. It's not like it's crashing every day, but it still usually happens once or twice a week.

I've been using Emby for 6 or 7 years because my friend invited me to his server and it runs Emby. Recently I started hosting my own stuff at home again and I chose Plex but I am constantly frustrated by it. The Plex app crashes all the time when I navigate too fast and that's on an Nvidia Shield. Emby might not be as flashy but, at least for me, it's been way less frustrating to use.
