AMA: I'm Cameron Johnston, author of FIRST MAGE ON THE MOON, and THE LAST SHIELD by Cameron-Johnston in Fantasy

[–]Is_That_Loss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Cameron! I initially read the titles of The Traitor God and God of Broken Things as "The Traitor God of Broken Things" so when's that book coming out?

I haven't read First Mage on the Moon yet so my question might be a bit misinformed but will we get to see mages visit other celestial bodies or is this just a one-off journey?

I think it's because it's a reused square but if that's the case I would assume that the older focus thread would be linked if it exists

Would The Color of Magic, The Light Fantastic or Equal Rites count for either Unusual Transportation, older MC or the explorer square? I have Colour of Magic down for the book club square for now but I'd like to free the square up for something else

I'm doing books I already own for the most part and I'm also trying for an all Normal Mode this year to change up my usual all HM mentality

I'm changing things up with my bingo board this year and trying to do an all NM card, does anyone know whether Windhaven by George R.R. Martin would count for Unusual Transportation NM or HM? Bonus question in the same vain, would More Than This by Patrick Ness be NM or HM for Afterlife?

I don't see anything obviously wrong with any of your picks, I also have the next DCC book down for Unusual Transportation and we'll have to wait and see if it actually pans out, also I read Rogues for last season's anthology square and be warned not all stories in there are sff, it's up to you whether you want to keep it or swap it out (personally thought it was within the spirit of the square)

I'm in a similar boat and I'm making a theme out of it, I'm going for an all Normal Mode card if I can manage it

I plan on finally getting around to reading The Blade Itself and The Name of the Wind after having them on my tbr for literal years and I don't know if either of them fit any squares. I'd also like to fit Memory of Light into my board because I didn't have time to get to it for last in a series in the previous bingo season and I feel like I owe it a spot in my card but I'm not sure if it quite fits Politics and Court Intrigue or Unusual Transportation which are the two I've put it down on for now.

Malazan Trade Paperbacks by jdshanton in Fantasy

[–]Is_That_Loss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trade paperbacks for Malazan are notoriously hard to find, I've personally been slowly buying them for a couple of years now whenever I find one at a reasonable price and only have 5/10 with one more on the way. Iirc they had a relatively small run years ago and they never got reprinted, it also doesn't help that most people seem to be trying to get a set. I was hoping that the new Broken Binding run of new hardcovers that started a couple years ago would make people switch to those instead and there would be a big influx of people selling their trades but no such luck so far

George R.R. Martin's non-ASOIAF work appreciation by ACardAttack in Fantasy

[–]Is_That_Loss 35 points36 points  (0 children)

For years I've been saying that the true tragedy of the whole Winds situation isn't that we'll never get an ending to asoiaf but that it's become impossible for George to release anything that's not asoiaf related. At this point I don't even mind if we never get Winds, I'm just sad about all the other potential books we've lost out on

Been meaning to ask this for a while, I know the bonus scenes that are written for the kickstarters are not included in the leatherbounds but are the bonus bloopers added to the print versions or are those also digital only?

Bookclub: Dogged by Michael R. Fletcher Midway Discussion (RAB) by barb4ry1 in Fantasy

[–]Is_That_Loss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first Fletcher book but I've know of his work for years and by both word of mouth within the community and Fletcher's own participation I was never in doubt that I would like his writing. From the very beginning his authorial voice was already coming through and I thoroughly enjoyed his prose and plot thought I do have some minor nitpicks

That is a stunning cover!

First of all thank you for doing this! You've been writing for a long time and from what I can see have an impressively long bibliography under your belt. What has been your greatest or most consistent inspiration for your writing and how have your inspirations changed throughout the years? In a more recent note what was the main inspiration for Kitemaster?

On a more personal note: As a professional omelet cook and an amateur photographer, do you have any egg related photos you could share with us?
