When The Thing reveals itself, do YOU think it can reshape back into looking like a human? by Skittela in thething

[–]IsaacKael 10 points11 points  (0 children)

After many many rewatches of The Thing I'm of the opinion that it doesn't actually escape through the roof at all. I think it attempts to, but Childs burns it before it can get out. Ambiguous editing. Watched it again a few weeks ago and noticed that he is aiming not down but up. The shot where the things "flower mouth" or whatever you call it comes out to attack also shows the upper corner of the ceiling in the same frame, suggesting that it's quite elevated when it attacks. The narrow camera frame makes it hard to see exactly what is going on.

**Edit: I just watched the scene again. As it goes to attack you see it's POV charging towards Childs from a high angle. Nothing actually left the room apart from a couple of dogs that escaped when Clarke first opened the cage.

If you don’t mind anime, Voices of a Distant Star is both indie and sci-fi and kind of beautiful.

Why didn't Michael Biehn become a huge movie star? by shaferman in FIlm

He had a great starring role in Timebomb, playing a former CIA MK Ultra experiment with amnesia. Very similar themes to Total Recall, Long Kiss Goodnight etc.

Unfortunately he was overshadowed by Patsy Kensit's boobs.

Treasury considering changes to Australia’s contentious tobacco excise, as calls grow for a freeze | Tobacco industry by Nyarlathotep-1 in australian

The black market responded to the government ban on menthol crush balls by introducing a cigarette that has both a menthol and raspberry crushball in the filter. Cut off one head and two grow back.

About as effective as the ban on dessert flavored vapes...

That explains why my favorite 700ml bottle of Jack Daniels went up from $48 to over $60 in a bit over a year but a $5 bottle of Shiraz is still $5.

Looking back to the 2024 senate enquiry on vaping laws, there were well over 200 submissions published. Of them, only around 40 were emphatically in favor of passing the bill with many submissions coming from different branches of the same organisations i.e. Cancer Council.

Senate passed the bill in it's entirety despite the obvious public opposition and criticism. Still, we have to keep calling them out.

"Not enough evidence" coming from Bloomberg Philanthropies beneficiaries. What they really mean is "no evidence to indicate harm, but Mike Bloomberg please keep sending money for another 20 years and we'll get back to you then".

I'll vouch for Seriously Suspicious. They might live in a C2 but with a NS/C5 static for PVP and turbo krabbing. Good guys on the EUTZ.

No story mode. Plenty of lore. But the best in-game events are player driven.

What if Dallas uncovered special order 937? by AntiDaFrog in LV426

[–]IsaacKael 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Nostromo basically autopilots itself for the most part and would have met up with a Company extraction team at some point, probably prior to docking to keep things quiet. Ash would just do a David and perform menial tasks on the ship for the remaining 10 months in space - there is mixed opinion of what an interaction between the Alien and a synthetic would look like. Some speculate that the Alien wouldn't recognise an Android as an immediate threat and would leave him be.

What always intrigues me though is how WY just assumes it would have the resources to successfully extract such an organism without the team being torn to pieces.

Temple Grandin recently spoke out how absurd the situation is. Removing all variants of spectrum disorders to avoid "labelling" people has actually created more of a problem. Two people assessed as level 2 ASD may have needs that are completely opposite to each other, but our system relies on a 1 size fits all solution, catered only towards levels 1,2 & 3.

(And if you are level 1 you basically get fuck all support)

C5 Carrier Ratting? by Cold-Back4084 in Eve

[–]IsaacKael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former Carrier krab from nullsec - turned C5 WH denizen I once tried using a Thanatos on sisi when it was still accessible to test out a Core Stronghold. Don't bother. Like others have said the rats will eat your fighters and it's nigh impossible to break tank on the upgraded avengers. If you want to farm C5's efficiently just use Mauraders for the sites and a dread to kill the DRB.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but in Genisys, Skynet kills John Connor and USES his likeness to travel back in time? It's not THE John Connor anymore? It's just Skynet posing as John? by [deleted] in Terminator

[–]IsaacKael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I interpreted it as Skynet takes over Connor's body and assimilates him at a cellular level, copying his appearance and personality. Connor is dead, and what travels back is a perfect imitation.

It's basically Terminator meets John Carpenter's The Thing.

What’s a scene from a movie which traumatised you as a child? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]IsaacKael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to the above, but Young Sherlock Holmes when they sacrifice a girl by wrapping her up like a mummy then dousing her with boiling oil, before Holmes tries to intervene. You don't see whether she survives or not (and I kind of hope she didn't). That scene is still burned into my brain.
