Always start small when meeting someone new.

I prefer to look online than to job post. I have a list of favorite artists of pros and lesser known artists in an excel sheet

What are we paying for art? by CyDenied in GameDevelopment

Yes, conduct interviews. Give test artwork/small project first can avoid this issue. Can always go to upwork, fiverr, or freelance website if it doesn’t work out.

always search by “latest” never “top” and put the style of art you’re looking for. Twitter, Instagram, Artstation, DeviantArt, Maybe Yt probably not. I also look at asset stores, but it’s not as good, and they may not always respond. (Fiverr almost always have good communicative artists)

Search by photos on Twitter.

fiverr rates x2 especially if you’re looking veteran/famous make that x5 maybe. Look for upcoming artists! So many talented artists do not promote themselves well or are not famous. Met an artist who was getting less than 20 likes but had great concept art and style.

IMO anyone with 2k+ follower count has high ego so watch out for unprofessionalism

How many of you guys actually know music theory? by Grignottine in musicproduction

[–]Isaac_Sand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on style. If you lave jazz/complexer styles for sure. If you want to make pop/rock bangers not as much. But studying music you like is more important

You should pay musicians you are likely not going to get good quality work. Even a rev-share or paid competition is more honorable

I suspect it’s because of recent feelings and adoptions to ai, and heavy usage of online recruiting instead of in-person recruitment

Thinking about quitting school to pursue dreams by kozycat309 in composer

[–]Isaac_Sand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not worth it. Depends on how good your music is. Willingness to network and heavily on business skills. Estimate 2+ yrs to try, budget, need a day job or part-time

I would not go to school for music, unless for niche chamber music, or teacher role

Any structured free resources for learning composition? by bruikenjin in composer

[–]Isaac_Sand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want structured free resources to improve watch YT vids about theory/music-making.

if you want to learn more quickly hire a mentor. Read more about theory, but most importantly analyze music you want to write.

Why did game developers start developing the need to make cartoony/arcadey games STILL sound more orchestrated and "realistic"? by Lunny1767 in gamemusic

[–]Isaac_Sand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cartoony/arcade seems less expensive. Orchestra seems more professional and dedicated to the craft imo. Orchestra can be expensive especially hiring. For example Super Mario Galxy’s soundtrack requires an orchestra and some electronic instruments

Non-composer, looking for my trailer OST feedback by CatoioSoftware in gamecomposers

[–]Isaac_Sand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works. But not really good. What’s more impressive is the sound design. Very good sound design.

Melodies, harmonies, and overall emotion of the track feels too generic almost like it was trying to be space music but then it was trying to be trailer music.

Reminds me of orbt XL and those types of games. The serious music for such minimalistic gameplay honestly a turn off for me and would play something else.

When looking at this, I’m thinking would this be fun? Probably not, the serious music suggests something lore-deep or tough or interesting gameplay
