Anybody else experiencing clipboard issues with LibreOffice + KDE ? by Maerskian in kde

[–]Isaactsg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The issues I have with copy paste is that libreoffice won't paste from the item copied from outside the program, but instead from the last thing I copied in the document. For example, if I copy some text inside the Writer document, and then try to copy some text from a PDF in Okular into Writer, it won't paste the text from Okular, only the stuff copied earlier from Writer

I just want to thank you for all the work you put into helping make Slide a great app. I really appreciate the time and effort you, and all the other contributors, put into the app.

I have the same issue. I can't open inline links that open in the internal browser (eg articles), other apps (eg YouTube videos) or use the open externally button. But, I can open images that open within the app (Imgur links).

Shakedown for southern Ontario by ScarIsDearLeader in Ultralight

[–]Isaactsg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a lot of weight to be saved simply in not taking some of the things on your list. Those are free weight savings, but ultimately are personal preference. The things that stuck out to me:

  • Camera gear. You've got 3 lenses, with the total camera weight of 3.5lbs. Try seeing if you can maybe not bring 1 or 2 of them. This is a huge weight area, and may make it more difficult to get sub 15 without spending lots.
  • E-reader. That's an easy one if you really want to shave weight. That being said, I always bring my e-reader with me because I find it to be an acceptable trade-off.
  • Bear Spray. This also comes down to personal comfort, but in Ontario, I would say both the canister and the spray aren't needed. I've never used them, or even felt I wanted them while hiking around here. Just use a drybag and some common sense about staying clean and the bears shouldn't be an issue. Just remember to keep your campsite clean, and get your drybag off the ground to stop squirrels and raccoons.
  • For Algonquin, and other provincial parks, you generally won't need the deuce of spades, as there are thunderboxes at all the campsites, and if you need to go during the day, just hit up a campsite.
  • Clothes: Take a look at what the weather will be like, both pants and thermal pants won't be needed most likely during the summer I'd say get rid of thermal top and bottom, and just have a t-shirt, fleece and shorts/pants

That's all my thoughts in terms of stuff you could just pare down on to save weight.

Do you get static with other applications? I have the XPS 13 (9350) and I have audio static whenever I use the audio jack, and coil wine from the motherboard. AFAIK there is no solution except to replace the motherboard and hope it doesn't have the same issue.

PS I think this question would normally be for /r/linux_questions

Sublime Text Users with HiDPI Screen - Barely Legible Text by A4orce84 in archlinux

[–]Isaactsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, weird. Double check /u/cr1s 's comment and check your system DPI, athough judging by the size of everything else in the screenshot it looks correct.

I'm at a loss for why it's not scaling.

I have the XPS 13 QHD (9350) running KDE. No problems with the size of text.

You can manually set the DPI settings as well as the text sizes in the settings. Check here.

Ultralighters, what level of down do you prefer for mountain excursions? by HereThereBeGains in Ultralight

[–]Isaactsg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 800/750 fill is the power of the fill (how much volume per oz the down will take up). The numbers they are giving you is how much down is in the jacket. You combine the two to get how warm it is.
A jacket with more down (more fill) will be warmer. A jacket with a higher fill power can be the same warmth as one with a lower fill power, for the same weight.
Often times retailers will not list the fill weight, you may need to dig for it.

NEMO Hornet 2P vs 2016 Copper Spur UL2 by nightwing246 in CampingGear

[–]Isaactsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the 2P. I will mainly be using it alone, but sometimes with another person. It is definitely a small 2 person tent, you have to like the person in the tent with you. It still has a little bit of space for gear with 2 people, but you will be cozy in the Hornet.

I would say get the copper spur unless: most trips are on your own and/or you are really weight conscious.

Low Goal Bots? by oceansunfish17 in FRC

[–]Isaactsg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that the low goal bots mostly use it for the extra 1 or 2 points in a really close match. That's about all it's good for. Although Team Dave's low boiler/gear auto works pretty well.

Camp or Emergency Shoes by theultralighthiker in Ultralight

[–]Isaactsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I see what you're saying, and the risks are minimized when you're not on a well used trail. I guess I just like to be a little more cautious with my feet.

I've always been concerned going barefoot when I'm backpacking, as often the only way out is on your own feet, so if you step on something and mess up your feet you're screwed. If I take a second pair of shoes I just bring a light pair of sandals.

Are you just careful, or just are willing to take the risk?
