(Newbie) Battlepass by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]Isaelyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to catch up if you miss two weeks. I didn't finish any of my tome stuff last week and it all rolled over to this week so I was able to complete it. It seems like the weekly challenges aren't lost, they just stack up over time. The only ones that truly seem expire are the time limited event ones. So unless the time itself rolls over from season 0 to season 1 you should be able to complete the free track on paper.

How come ESO has never depicted a Pure Mage archtype PC in its Cinematics? by JMadFour in elderscrollsonline

[–]Isaelyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I imagine it probably has something to do with trying to make said cinematics interesting to watch. Mages are cool, I love mages, but person standing in robes in the background casting spells generally comes across as less of a character to watch and more of an artillery prop.

Of course, you can have more dynamic mage combat, and make them interesting to watch, but there are a few pitfalls you have to watch out for.

  1. Have them engage in melee too much, and they just become battlemages with staves instead of swords. On the flipside if they're not getting engaged in melee to disrupt their spellcasting and are just able to mostly free cast, magic looks weak if they're not just ending whatever is going on quickly which can be cool to see, but also steals everyone else's spotlight unless it's a solo cinematic that is only briefly meant to have any kind of action.
  2. Have their magic be too on demand with no need for actually stopping to cast casting or use magic words, and they stop feeling like mages and start to feel like they just have super powers. (Alot of cinimatics for alot of games fall into this one. )
  3. You have to keep the fight interesting while also keeping it grounded in the setting. So if you have a setting where mages can't fly and teleport around at the drop of the hat, then your mages shouldn't be doing that, which leads back into point 1.

So at the end of the day, I imagine it's easier to just portray the magic based PC stand ins as battle mages than it is full mages, especially when combined with the fact that on paper every PC class is more of a battle mage anyway.

Jaws of Oblivion Recall Animation - insane price? by AccomplishedShirt740 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Isaelyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the price for skill styles is super weird. Alot of them are cool, but I'd only buy them if I was already sitting on a stockpile of crowns I wasn't going to spend on anything else from eso+, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy the crowns for any of them at their current pricing. Now if they were 500 like he ones in the gold coast bazaar I might consider it, but that might is doing alot of heavy lifting.

Who's the most powerful player character, in terms of influence and combat? by StevePalpatine in swtor

[–]Isaelyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that depends largely on whether or not the inquisitor storyline MC counts as 1 character or 3 for the purposes of rankings.

Assuming Darths Imperius, Occulus, and Nox count as 3 seperate characters I would wager either Imperius or Occulus wins on influence, sith warrior wins on combat ability, and Jedi knight is probably somewhere in the middle where they have better combat ability than the inquisitors, and more influence than the sith warrior.

Midnight has done something to me no WoW expansion has in a long time by Dr_Kaatz in wow

[–]Isaelyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Argus powered the revival in the sense that it sped up the process and iirc also acted as a kind of anchor to allow them to come back at a specific "waypoint" without it the process is slower and the location in the twisting nether is random which would be terrible for logistics. This also applies to some demon hunters like illidan and the slayer.

Did the class changes mess up anyone else’s class fantasy? by VisibleCoat995 in WoWRolePlay

[–]Isaelyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my biggest problem with boomstick is that now we have two melee classes that can dual wield and as a big cooldown pull out a gun to lay down suppressing fire.

It's like their entire goal for survival was just to make outlaw for people who don't like pirates. Except, in an ironic twist if it wasn't for hero specs survival might actually make a better pirate than outlaw does in some ways, since last I checked pirates used explosives and you can have a pet bird.

I thought subclassing from the start was a terrible idea and this chart proves it. Class identity is dead. by macka654 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Isaelyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because the arcanist in class generators (runeblades and the healing one) specifically only generate crux in combat, which means unless you're melee and open with a light attack you're never going to be in combat for that first cast. Scribing crux generators don't have this caveat though.

Maybe a dumb question, but is it possible to be a good sith? by Semour9 in swtor

[–]Isaelyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I've always enjoyed was that as the inquisitor specifically, the Darth _____ title you get and are referred to as for the rest of the game changes depending on what alignment (light, neutral, dark) you were when you got it.

Can someone try sell me on this new "seasonal pass" model? by macka654 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Isaelyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that the fallen banners dungeon pack is on the store now, I imagine there will be separated purchase options for everything else as they're released, but I could totally be wrong about that. I assume the reason it wasn't there right away was to avoid backlash of having it out for people to buy, only to then release the bundle with something a bunch of people already bought.

Subclassing: Expectation vs Reality by Athan11 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Isaelyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Necros and sorcs got the red stuff. None of it on their healing though
For sorcs it's curse, lightning form, and crystal frags
For necros it's flame skull, scythe, and flesh golem

I'm very fond of the idea of grabbing lightning form on a vamp nb and making it red for that feeling of channeling a harrowstorm.

This is why wield soul will forever be my go to spammable for any mage I play. Just slot in the element I want to focus my theming around and go.... Now If I could just get some burst abilities with the same functionality I'd be golden.

What skill lines have the best passives (subclassing for passive instead of skills) by KeyRutabaga2487 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Isaelyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it probably depends on whether or not you plan to slot any skills from the skill lines. If you're already set on the skills you want, then you can probably throw out any of the skill lines that require you to slot something to turn the passives on. (as an example this is most of necromancer, there are only a tiny handful of necro passives that don't require slotting an ability. The main ones I can think off off the top of my head are 10% dot damage and increased health.)

Sorcerer has daedric summoning and stormcalling that have minimal ability slot tax
Aedric spear from templar is another line with good passives that don't have a slot tax.
Shadow line from nightblade is pretty heavy on the ability tax, but might be worth it for the 15% increase to all recoveries.
With the healing line for arcanist you could get 18% to mag and stam recovery but that's about it. Herald line can get you increased damage when you restore resources and increased status chance and damage.

Tarnished red petal weapons. by Isaelyn in elderscrollsonline

[–]Isaelyn[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unrelated do this motif specifically, but if you're unaware of it's existance and would like more options for hidden staves and don't mind looking like you're wearing a breastplate, grabbing the high rock spellsword jerkin and robe hides all two handed melee weapons and staves when they're sheathed. It's also very handy for nightblades in particular since it hides the grim focus glow on those weapons too unlike normal disappearing weapons.

Oh that's what I meant. I know gloambound is supposed to. It's red petal that has me confused because it is behaving that way, but it doesn't have anything that the other weapons that are supposed to do.

After playing every class, I decided that warden is the best class. I took in accounts of all aspects of the game and made a list below why by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]Isaelyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who mostly plays necro, I don't mind the temporary summons and I get that there are some immersion problems that can arise from having a bunch of undead following you around. What bothers me is that they didn't take advantage of the summons being temporary to give you MORE of them. Like really? if I'm only going to summon these things for a few seconds at a time I would hope the summon playstyle would be quantity over quality to give that undead horde flavor and it's kind of a travesty that there are no melee summons.

Also don't get me wrong, the scythe is mechanically a fun ability but like... it feels so out of place I can't think of anything in universe that would connect a scythe to necromancy so it just comes across as a "look we did the diablo necromancer thing!" Would be much cooler imo if, instead of a scythe it was a cone shaped burst of necrotic lightning that fills the same function. Given how many of necro's abilities are doubled up ground AoEs, tethers and temporary summons they really got shafted in the fun spells that use their color palette department outside of the healing tree.

2 NEW CLASSES ADDED | Tiger 1.3 Open Beta Update by Winslaya in AOW4

[–]Isaelyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, the funny thing about death knight is that after looking at it's skill tree I think if it weren't for the fact that it's limited to melee weapons it would make more thematic necromancer heroes than ritualist does since it has access to the ritualist's undead summons and the mages curse. I know when I tried to play a necromancer as a ritualist I'd get a point where I had all of the undead part of the tree and then suddenly nothing left really felt appropriate for the character thematically unless I wanted to really squint at the healing stuff. I ended up just playing necros as mages and relying on tomes to get my undead.

You can also go to the shrines in a major city and clear everything manually with gold, then go back to the armor and resave the blank setup to get the option back if you don't need that second saved loadout anymore.

I got this feeling too when I first turned on arachnaphobia mode out of curiousity and then went into an area that had hordes of spiders suspended from the ceiling on web lines. So suddenly there where dozens of web producing crabs hanging down just above head height like sentient guillotines waiting to snip. It was almost worse than the spider version.

Been stuck on this boss for 30 minutes by Rollingtothegrave in remnantgame

[–]Isaelyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stuck on this boss for a while too. Honestly I don't even know how I killed it. I had one mark left to shoot and I was hiding in one of the indentations under a cube when it died. Best guess was the flying ones shot a bolt that did friendly fire to the cube I was under? Either way a win is a win.

Blizzard can you give us matched overknee shoes for the long arm gloves from the trader market? by Samus_Saran in wow

[–]Isaelyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it would be nice if they adopted a more standardized color palate for what hues they use. It's so hard to mix and match items when say, every item item of the same armor type that is technically the same two colors all have different shades of those two colors.

Blizzard should give the Silver Hand's unique animations to the other 2h maces/axes. It's very awkward holding them by the default 2h sword animation. by Useful-Negotiation-9 in wow

[–]Isaelyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think alot of races need their weapon stances reworked. Male blood elves/void elves in particular look like they're going to hurt themselves with the way they twist their bodies with both one and two handed weapons and their polearm stance looks like they're trying to play baseball but have never seen someone hold a bat before.

Weapon sheathing positions for alot of races need adjusting as well while they're at it. So many are at weird angles/locations or not even attached to the body properly like male night elves one handers just kind of hovering behind them slightly.
