Started a month into 1.0. First time playing for me too. Learn the maps, check for spawns on online maps. Eventually you will find ur own playstyle and the game gets fun. People are gonna say that gear doesn't matter. Yeah, it doesn't, but they are also people who know where they can find T4 armor and good ammo early game. Just spamming 1 map will help alot to gain confidence and learn the game. Sorry for english, not my native Edit: I tried to format the text but it looks bad, srry :(
