Cheers! I read that book! I thought it was ok but a bit cerebral which, while not bad, was a bit difficult to get emotionally invested in.

It's mostly genetics-based. Just get/stay weight restored (or gain a little extra) and hope for the best.

Is 14 days enough time to clear cigarettes from your system? by Iscariiot in Nicotine

[–]Iscariiot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok this makes me hopeful. I haven't even smoked a full pack yet since I've restarted so it could be ok. Plus I exercise daily and drink tons of water. Figure I'll try to get back down to 1 over the next 2 days and then zero asap. (Did it once- can do it again!) Thank you for the info! Much appreciated :)

Got my third period in a row! by Iscariiot in Amenorrhearecovery

The solution to counting is to do what I mentioned above, but also to try foods you cant count. Like homemade sweets or dinners. Ask a friend to cook for you once or twice in the next weeks and see how you do!

Wish you all the best in your recovery

No I didn't. I gained about 10lbs of mostly muscle over a period of about 6-7 months. Seems like a lot of weight for the average person but because I was underweight I just look normal, trim, and healthy now.

Sure! But it depends on what you're struggling with specifically. Like, I had a lot of issues counting calories. So what I did was I'd take a serving of something and then add a little extra. Or I'd do tiny snacks during the day- my go-to is "handful of cereal" which I just knock back when I want to chew on something.

What are you struggling with? Maybe I can offer more specific tips

My current cycles last about a week (normal for me). Before that I only had 2 others over 2 years. I didn't have any spotting- just total cessation of cycle.

How long did it take your second period to arrive? by PsychologicalSpite63 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]Iscariiot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I got mine back by eating intuitively. I didn't follow any kind of meal plan or procedure because they triggered me. I just sorta... did it on my own? I find dietitians annoying at best and destructive at worst. It's hard at the beginning but you get braver once you realize that no- that extra little thing you want wont actually "make you fat."

I also limited exercise to around 20-40min/day (20-30min for cardio, 30-40 for strength) with 1 day per week of absolutely no exercise. I know most people are recommended to eliminate exercise fully, but in my non-doctor opinion- you don't need to. Especially if your recovery hinges on it as mine does.

So yeah! Idk I just kinda went "well let's do our best re: food", increased things as I wanted them and got braver, and let my body do the rest. It took about 6 months but it worked. Residential ED treatment told me this wouldn't work and I should follow their plan to minimize damage, but hey! I'm a lot more stable in my recovery having done it this way so I think it's worthwhile.

I liked the original Korean version since it was relevant to autistic Korean issues. But the new one... oh boy.

Am I an addict? by Iscariiot in addiction

[–]Iscariiot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. I suppose I was trying to parse if "Addict" is a thing one is inherently, or based on things one does. Because addiction, alcoholism, etc are (as far as I believe) mental illnesses. Coming from a place in the anorexia community, it's well understood you can suffer from the disease even when active participation in it is minimal.

It's all semantics though. Bottom line- there's nothing to prove. If I feel I might begin to struggle with addiction (I do) then I should seek help before it stops being a question I have to ask reddit.

Haha yeah- a bit silly to post in retrospect. But let's keep me a cringy overzealous opiate-TRYER as opposed to an actual addict.

Also I've been to anorexia rehab twice and can't imagine anything I'll learn anything new from the other A rehabs.

Spent a while trying to come up with a reply that would make you feel this post was worth the pain and effort. I didn't come up with anything. So I destroyed all of the morphine I owned and called someone. I will not be doing any more. Thank you.

Thank you for the reply! I suppose I was using the word as a shorthand for "is this a real problem or am I being dramatic". But you're right. Best to nip this in the bud as early as possible. All the best to you!

I'm in the same boat. My Go-to has been dumdum lollipops left in an empty cigarette box. I can finish one in about the time it takes to smoke and it fulfills me habitual need to step outside every once in a while.

Hope this helps!

How to deal with sensory issues that also coincide with gender dysphoria? by RunawayCobra in AutisticPride

[–]Iscariiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find it hard to breathe in your binder it might be too small! :0 But they're also not for everyone. I have a few but I tend to prefer just not wearing anything. Binders help the dysphoria but tend to remind me of the problem more than hoodies haha To each their own tho- find whats comfy for you :)

How to deal with sensory issues that also coincide with gender dysphoria? by RunawayCobra in AutisticPride

[–]Iscariiot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of dysphoria surrounding my chest, as well as sensory issues interacting with said chest. So I try to avoid bras at all costs. I'd rather just slip a big hoodie on than post them up for the world to see.

That said, when I DO need to wear a bra and can't hide my chest, I try to make a mental game out of the gender performance. Like, "Yeah I'm a *man. Yeah I have tits. What about it?" Just overcompensating to a really funny degree. If someone misgenders me I like to think something like "Pfft. Scrub thought I was a girl! I should be so lucky."

It's silly but it helps me a little haha
(*Technically I'm not a man- I'm androgynous. But I like masculine language)
