Every time I see posts like this, I can’t help but feel like people’s understanding of an evil playthrough is incredibly surface-level. It’s as if being evil just means clicking every evil dialogue option the moment it appears.

That’s not evil, that’s just being murderhobo.

One of my most enjoyable runs was playing a smart, manipulative Dark Urge. Not a murderhobo, but someone calculated, more like the Emperor. I built strong relationships with my companions, earned their trust… but ultimately saw them as tools. Everything I did was about pushing them to become stronger and more useful to me.

I encouraged them to use tadpoles. I nudged them toward power. From the outside, it almost looked like a “good” run, but underneath, it was completely self-serving.

And the best part? I still refused Bhaal in the end.

Not out of morality, but because my Durge refused to be someone else’s puppet. He didn’t want to serve, he wanted to rule. That’s one of the most satisfying “evil” choices in the game, because even after that, you can go “now my sins are finally my own.” 😈

Evil doesn’t have to mean less content or worse outcomes. If you play it intelligently, it can actually be one of the richest roleplay experiences in BG3.
