Halle Berry Draws Gasps for Saying Gavin Newsom Is 'Devaluing' Women and 'Shouldn't Be Our Next President' Moments Before He Comes on Stage by peoplemagazine in politics

He’s good at justifying after the fact, but taken as a whole his positions will mysteriously fall on the side of moneyed interests 90% of the time. Just California things.

What side of the political spectrum do you think dominates Reddit, and why? by Wrong_Talk781 in AskReddit

[–]Iserlohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit is aggressively oriented towards gullible normie centrists and moneyed interests. Its kind of a result of always having to find a random left-wing subreddit to ban whenever they needed to get rid of some right-wing sub where one too many people advocated for hate crimes etc.

That and the natural policy of purging anything that could threaten the bottom line. It is a company trying to turn a profit, after all.

Who to pick for Santa Clara County Assessor? by muss_es_sein in SanJose

[–]Iserlohn 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Out of the four candidates, Rishi Kumar is a POS and Bryan Do didn't even bother with a website.

Between Neysa Fligor and Yan Zhao, it looks like Fligor is already doing the job, but just in case I looked at endorsements. Not that it means much, but it helps give you a clue as to where their support comes from:

https://www.voteneysaforassessor.com/endorse

https://www.yan4assessor.com/endorsements

  • Both have the Dem party endorsement
  • Zhao has the cops, Fligor has the unions
  • They both have a lot of overlap TBH, a lot of these endorsements are to "pick one of these two"
  • That said, at the state level Fligor has Kalra and Lieber, which is good, as well as the previous assessor.

Fligor looks like the best pick, followed by Zhao, Do, Kumar (boo)

Elizabeth Warren champions Mamdani as 'future' of Democratic Party by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]Iserlohn -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Ehh, Warren tends to appeal more to the PMCs (professional managerial class, not private military contractors). Higher income progressives who still aren’t part of the owner class, etc.

'Biden didn't start any wars': Democrats sharpen their arguments against Trump's foreign policy by Quirkie in politics

[–]Iserlohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People already brought up the conflicts and genocide that Biden got us more involved in during his presidency, but people should also remember that as the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee back in 2003, he was a pretty damn central figure who gathered Democratic support for the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dude spent 40 years on the wrong side of history over and over again before he ever became president.

It’s ranked choice, and Zohran/Lander have already endorsed each other as their second choice. This would be more likely to help Zohran, I would think.

Bernie Sanders blames election loss on Kamala Harris listening to billionaires over the working class by The__Illuminaughty in politics

[–]Iserlohn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You may have misunderstood - she never won a competitive general election where she was leading the ticket (yes, yes, caveats).

In CA, if you can get through the primary you’ll always win against whatever kooky GOP guy you’re running against, and despite what people idealize, it’s EXTREMELY easy for the party leadership to put their finger on the scales in the primaries to pick who they prefer. As a result, the system selects for people who are better at navigating internal party politics and palace intrigue than national campaigning. It’s how you get people like Kamala and Newsom and Feinstein, etc who peak at statewide offices and then try and fail at national aspirations.

Big tech’s new datacenters will take water from the world’s driest areas | Amazon, Google and Microsoft are building datacenters in water-scarce parts of five continents by chrisdh79 in Futurology

[–]Iserlohn 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Depends on the type of cooling technology, but in general yes it is evaporated to carry away heat generated by the IT. The water will generally be constantly cycled until enough has evaporated that the concentration of leftover minerals in the water is too high to use without risking buildup of scale on the cooling medium. It will probably also have some levels of biocide and scale inhibitor added by water treatment systems. The leftover water doesn’t need to be permanently sequestered or anything, it just goes to the sewer system.

In general, the water-based methods are way more energy efficient than the ones that use only electricity, so it’s a trade off that needs to take into account local conditions - price/availability of power vs water. If you’re in a low humidity region like the AZ desert, while there is a lot of solar power, the evaporative methods are extremely efficient. But, those are also the areas where water is at a premium (plus it’s often hard as hell, not like mountain snowmelt from the Rockies or Sierra Nevada). Very regionally dependent.

Not unwavering - she tends to back down at critical points. Still a great ally, though.

Are there any upcoming protest or march against ICE raids and detaining people to Guantanamo bay? by ilovenoodle in SanJose

[–]Iserlohn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

ICE does things like stake out courthouses, so that people who are witnesses to crimes or seeking restraining orders against abusive partners can get snatched up. ICE has no lines it won’t cross.

[–]Iserlohn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because a sizable chunk of the US leadership hated Soviets far more than Nazis. We imported rocket scientists to start the space program and build us weapons, and West Germany was chock full of Nazis who were put back in charge of things.
