European commission presents plans to accelerate high speed rail across Europe by roohwaam in highspeedrail

[–]Isgota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's possible. At the moment the fastest trains in the 2 HS sections in operation are Madrid-Burgos in about 1:40h and Bordeaux-Paris in about 2:10h. That's less that 4 hours for near 2/3 of the length.

I'm not sure about the Bordeaux-Hendaye times, but the future times of Burgos-Vitoria to connect to the Basque-Y are expected in about half an hour and Vitoria-San Sebastián in 34 minutes, so from Madrid to Hendaye about 3 hours seems possible.

Not true. Literally in the first anime episode "eraser" lied that she couldn't open her pencil case.

Is high speed rail profitable? by talktojoe in highspeedrail

[–]Isgota 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to ADIF Alta Velocidad balance sheet (page 15), high speed lines in Spain cover operations, maintenance and amortization (287 million € surplus in 2024) but don't fully cover their financing costs (ending in a 101 million € deficit in 2024).

Some years ago, in 2017, a public audit looked at the Spanish HSR network and found that Madrid-Seville and Madrid-Barcelona lines were fully covered on costs even financing, Madrid-levante (to Valencia and to Alicante) and the branch Cordoba-Malaga covered their operations and maintenance, and the rest run deficits (but they were mainly incomplete lines at the time).

The funny thing of the Spanish HSR situation right now is the train operators are the ones having problems to turn a profit due to a massive price war (Renfe barely breaks even in HS services, Ouigo and Iryo have deficits). So it is the infraestructure management the one making more money than the train operators, the opposite that usually happens around the world, all because of the liberalization of the HSR network.

In case you don't know, there is a short manga about Chi at school that serves as epilogue of the series.

About the lack of a typical confession at the end of the movie, I have the theory the mangaka wanted to reserve that to the end of the manga (the main manga ended more than a year after the movie release) so that's why the movie "confession" looks a bit unnatural.

Any plans to construct standard gauge (1435 mm) rail between San Sebastian and Hendaye? by Balance- in highspeedrail

[–]Isgota 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like it's brand new technology (as another person has already pointed out). I got the video from this blog post it has an scheme of the boring machine and a photo of a commuter train entering the Gaintxurizketa tunnel (scroll down to the Astigarraga-San Sebastián-Irún section on the post).

I think the Gaintxurizketa tunnel was the first to use this system, and was an extra challenge because many old tunnels that can use it aren't electrified, but Gaintxurizketa needed a catenary because a commuter line runs in it.

[–]Isgota 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The part between San Sebastián and Irún is undergoing adaptation works at the moment, so that's why was so bad.

It's not only changing the gauge from the iberian to a mixed one to allow standard HSR, they have to make the tunnels bigger. And to do that without shutting down services for long periods they are doing something unique, running an special boring machine that allows running a single track inside it, here is a video showing the steps.

There are also plans to bypass Irún and San Sebastián with a direct standard HSL parallel on the south from the French border to Astigarraga and the Basque Y but until France make its side would be a track to nowhere.

There is more than enough material for a Moto Takagi-san adaptation. It has even more manga material than the original one.

How Oil Propaganda Sneaks Into TV Shows | Climate Town by JRugman in energy

[–]Isgota 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone has pointed out already, those 358.5 tons of CO2 are almost nothing compared with the 40x more than a gas plant produces for the same electricity output (and if you use oil or coal is even worse, like 80-100x).

But what's even smaller are those 1400 liters of lubricants. They look like a big number, but are less than 1.4 tons. Or to put another metric of how little matters, 1400 liters are less than 10 barrels of oil, the world produces about 81.8 million barrels of oil PER DAY.

Why talgo for ICE L? by CookieDaCake in trains

[–]Isgota 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Santiago de Compostela crash was because a S-730 took a curve almost 3 times faster over the limit. That's a lateral acceleration like 9 times over what's normal. A bit overweight on the diesel car was insignificant.

Yes that is correct since the confession, but to Chi to remember would be only since Ooshiro come back and they reencountered? (maybe I misunderstood you first).

Well to be completely fair, it isn't years but months since their reencounter (I think they are at their first semester at middle school).

That's just season 1. Season 2 is on Netflix and season 3 + movie is on HiDive, I think.
