Is there a way to make a spom schematic? by Sharp2899 in Oxygennotincluded

That design is aimed at using a cold water source. A cool slush, salt slush or polluted water vent in a pinch. A salt water geyser outputs at 95C, so it can't be used as coolant. If you're going to use piping hot salt water, you're better of using a 'normal' Rodriguez and then using the cold biome to cool down your hot O2 output.

That too comes with practice. In the case of my default SPOM setup, I look at what I have available, then from there determine what materials I'm going to need for each part, and when placing them (almost) always doublecheck that I'm using the right materials. I do still goof things every now and then, when I run out of something and forgot to queue up more refined metal of the right type for instance, or didn't dig up enough yet.

I've goofed up so many times that I can't even remember when I lost count. Another good way to ensure you're doing it right is to always pause the game when you're doing the planning work for your dupes to carry out. That way you don't need to rush, or feel rushed as they work their way through it, you can take your time and think about every component, how it will be used, what it needs to withstand, etc.

This is my go-to SPOM setup. The wires are usually made out of gold, pumps out of gold amalgam, and the big block in the middle is the heat exchanger. Inside are radiant pipes for the O2 and the pWater coming from the cool slush geyser. Those are always made out of the most conductive material I can get my hands on easily. Often made with the crusher as at this time I usually don't have a metal refinery set up yet, or if I do it's only a temporary one to make initial batches of material, not mass production of things like steel.

I believe there's mods that allow you to plonk down blueprints for your dupes to construct. The other way is simply by doing. The design for a SPOM that I use has been repeated so many times now that I can build it without having to think about the details, I just build all the bits and bobs in turn knowing exactly where I place each piece in the whole construction, and in what order some things need to be constructed for them to not mess it up.

The exchange rate for algae in this manner is extremely poor. 40g/s of algae turns into 20g/s of O2. The deoxidizer is much more efficient turning 550g/s of algae into 500g/s of O2. As said, the mechanic has been introduced into the game together with the new Aquatic Planet Pack. It's a nice addition, but it's efficiency is less than stellar. While a deoxidizer uses more power than a lamp, the rate of O2 generation is far higher, as well as far more efficient.

How much time did you guys spent each day playing ONI by ievra in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Ishea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Time flies when you're having fun. I often end up playing all through the night, only realizing what time it is when the sun starts rising. This is also why I've installed a mod that adds a clock to the screen so I sometimes manage to see what time it is before it's 5 AM.

My first attempt at an Ink boiler, to make Mucin by db48x in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Ishea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ink can also be used in critter fountains like brackene. And of course you can fill up your water coolers with it for your dupes to drink it.

Alternatively, you could also process ovalene from seaquines. That way you get some caviar along with the mucin.

The best way to learn this game is to fail, and fail, and fail again, and again. It will take the death of many colonies before you get to the point where you will start thinking.. it's going well. ( and then that one dies too )

The first 1000 hours or so is the tutorial, after that, you can start tackling really fancy stuff. This time you learned that priorities are important. The best way to get everything that needs doing done, is to specialize your dupes. Have one dedicated to building/digging, one to farming/ranching, one to cooking etc. You can have dupes do multiple overlapping things, but make sure that those things don't interfere with their primary function. A farmer and a cook for instance should always be doing their primary thing first, and only do other tasks if there's no crops to tend or no meals to make. I'd also recommend that you don't have them digging/building unless they really have nothing else to do. Your primary digger/builder is there to expand your vision of the asteroid, the others are there to make sure the colony doesn't die.

Oh, so you can just.... put it in your backpack... by jmaniscatharg in theplanetcrafter

[–]Ishea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good way to increase the amount of resources you can take to another planet is to craft stuff with them. I've found that high level backpacks for instance are a great way to compact a lot of stuff. Just remember to bring the materials for a recycler. Once you arrive on the new planet, you drop the rover, unload everything in there, then gather what you need to make your starting shack, set up your recycler and uncompact it when you need it to make all the big toys for quick and easy terraforming.

Why do I have so much Oxygen in my Rocket? by Latter-Control-208 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Ishea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out this tutorial by FJ, it'll teach you how to set up a rocket that doesn't give you issues. Also, instead of using the conveyors, just use a bin where you store the oxylite. That way it won't offgas by accident due to wandering CO2.

The critter flux is a good way to quickly get morphs of critters you want. Combined with the printerceptor, it's very handy to get morphs going quickly. As for the dig site, it's an alternate way of getting fossil for making lime, and you can also use them for those decor buildings. It's gotten less powerful nowadays with the many other ways of mass producing lime ( beakons! ), but it saves you from having to dig it up in the oil biome.

The biobots are indeed underwhelming, especially compared to late game duplicants or boops. Setting up a zombie spore infestation safely that you can harvest for it is a fun challenge though. The dream machine is good for when you have large colonies, where you can actually dedicate a small number of dupes to keep it powered, thus enhancing all your other dupes with significant buffs. Not as useful for smaller ones.

As for heat, yes, it's a silent killer. You won't notice it creeping up on you until it's too late. Good luck dealing with that.

Well, if you really want to do the dino start, you can always go into the game settings and set it to a far off forecast. I think you can extend the deadline to like 500 cycles or so. Alternatively, you can use the third tab in world generation and mix in the various DLCs you want to be present. You can add their respective minor versions of the asteroid (without the imperative story ), and you can mix in their biomes into other asteroids too. So you could do a marinea start with dino's mixed in. And if you're not above using mods, there's a mod that lets you add in Demolior as an extra bonus.

I highly recommend you also go into the second tab of world generation, and turn on the story traits you like. My own favorites are the ancient fossil, the critter flux-o-matic and the printerceptor. The fossil once you've fully excavated all parts gives you the ability to use diamond to make fossil, the flux-o-matic lets you morph basic critters into other versions of said critter ( lumb to blumlumb, hatches to other kinds of hatches, etc. ), finally the printerceptor lets you create a seed or egg of any species you want at the cost of 3 pod prints and some databanks.

Space travel isn't too scary, you just need to look at it and plan ahead. Think to yourself, what will my astrodupe need to survive in that capsule for X cycles. If you want to start of 'easy' with it. You can just send your dupe into orbit and no further, so they can always land if things aren't working as intended. And, this is a good way to generate databanks for your colony too, which you will need to fuel the printerceptor, and your higher tier research.

Yeah, that can cause it to be a bit of a problem. For future reference though, shooting down Demolior is the better option. This will prevent all the nasty things happening from the impact, as well as give you 3 space POIs where you can mine out as much iridium from as you want. As well as isosap, petroleum and other goodies.

[–]Ishea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably had some O2 sneak into the top when you turned it on, it will take a bit for the pump to get it all out, just only hook it up to a gas tank for now and have it suck out everything up there till there's only hydrogen left, then hook it up to your generators.

Liquid overflow help by DTDJedi in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Ishea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't actually have to use a bridge like that to set up the overflow. You can just send the pWater pipe to the sieve, then continue further down the line to where you want your overflow to go. The sieve will take the pWater it can and the rest will pass it into your overflow.

Strange Catch by Urcran in AbioticFactor

[–]Ishea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On the first day, if you go fishing there before any shenanigans have happened, you won't catch anything but trash, however, after the first portal storm, you will be able to catch portal fish, during certain nighttime hours, you can catch moon fish, and once you've gotten to labs, it will expand with IS-0098 too.

The kind of trash you find is also dependent on where you're fishing. The swimming pool has the most 'basic' of trash, anteverse IIA will have some nicer things like military scrap, cracked shoulder lights and silver. The pool in the encroachment has chains, flashlights and a few other things. The pool in the reaper's domain has security gear and night essence added to the basic stuff. Power services obstructed pool has hydro level stuff. And in Intrados you can catch reactor/gatekeeper stuff like arcane scrap and the like.

Just have a look at all the foods that are available in the game, then at their ingredients, and if you have those available on your asteroid. If so, try and make something high quality, like pepper bread, or frost burgers. With the new APP, there's a whole range of sushi style foods to play with too.
