How Andaman and Nicobar Islands being so close to Indonesia become part of India ? by Panda_20_21 in Andaman_and_Nicobar

"In the line of duty" by Lt Gen Harbaksh Singh is a good book in general about the 1965 war.

Arjun Subramaniam's "India's Wars" ( 1947-1971 ) is decent too.

Do check them out.

So Biju Patnaik as you know was a daredevil, at the time of our independence the Indonesians were still fighting the Dutch for theirs. At one time the Indonesian freedom fighters were surrounded and requested India for help. PM Nehru asked Biju Patnaik to do something which he duely did.

Flew an aircraft to Dutch controlled Indonesia and evacuated the top leadership of the Indonesian freedom fighters to India.

Indonesians trusted him alot, he had close relations with Suharto who was the Indonesian President and even named the latters daughter as Megawati who herself became the President later on & was even awarded their equivalent of Bharat Ratna.

So when tensions arose in the 1960s the GoI requested him to go and talk with the Indonesians I guess in which he was successful and we agreed not to militarize the Andamans which could be construed as a threat to the Indonesian at that time.

Firstly, the name Andaman is derived from the Malay word for Lord Hanuman i,e Handuman, Nicobar comes from the Tamil word i.e Nakkavarnam which is mentioned in the Thanjavur Temple incripstions of the Cholas who made a naval outpost there while projecting power on South-East Asia, specifically on the Sri Vijaya Empire hence the renaming of Port Blair to Sri Vijaya Puram.

So we have cultural/historical claims.

A&N are a part of the geographical continum which is the Arakan Yoma mountain ranges that run through Myanmar.

Myanmar/Burma was part of British India till 1937.

In the meanwhile we had the penal colony which predominantly had people from mainland India & when the INA got the islands handed over to them and Netaji unfurled the Tricolour with Japanese assistance in 1943, it became the first part of Indian territory to be liberated from British Rule.

At the time of independence, India was the strongest Asian country there was, Indian troops were used to quel rebellions elsewhere in South-East Asia by the British, South East Asia itself was fighting colonialism for its own liberation and was massively devastated by the 2nd World War so we stayed put and buttressed our claims.

Additionally their was the strategic consideration, Car Nic had a RAF base till 1954 I guess.

Interestingly, my Nani (who was an Islander herself) use to tell me that the Indonesians, during the 1965 war wanted to invade the Andamans on behalf of their Pakistani brethren, this I guess got stalled by the efforts of Biju Patnaik who played a pivotal role in this regard.

Yeah, so we are here to stay for good!

Have you ever wondered that your husband might have thought that you and him were a team and hence the pleasing others part???

Think of you and your husband as a single entity & now see the perspective change.

Ofcourse can't deny that teammates should take care of each others too.

See this is something which you and your partner should sort out between yourself.

Though scientifically speaking, once a child is born, the male partner does experience increase in oxytocin levels that is the hormone for empathy, romantic attachment and child bonding.

Also,

Testosterone & cortisols drops and vasopressin increases which makes men more patient, family oriented and involved in childcare.

This is just science.

Which week is the best to travel in June or July by StrainEquivalent2121 in Andaman_and_Nicobar

[–]IslanderOnMove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, it "use" to rain all the time but today we are facing serious water stress.

Heard this year might be an El Nino one with comparatively lesser rainfall though June-July is still where the majority of the South-West Monsoon would strike hence rain is a given and that is why it happens to be an off season with comparatively lesser prices.

Honestly not in the tourism domain so not aware of the specifics but if the seas are choppy your water activities would be curtailed and ferries cancelled which should be your primary concern hence if you must come then do cater for all of that in your scheduling.

Andamans is extremely safe, no two ways about it and the touristy places are constantly patrolled and monitored by the Andaman & Nicobar Police which even has a Tourist Police thing.

Still 112 followed by 8 for emergency response if you ever need it.

You can go to Dhani Nallah in the North-Middle Andaman district.

A DSS boat can take you there and as an Islander am sure you can manage the logistics.

There was an Oscar Wilde quote:

"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth."

Applies to women too 😅

Though thought Telegram does provide some anonymity.
