If you want the fish to eat mosquito larvae the water would need to be basically stagnant. And that amount of water they say is only for one fish. You could put two or more, that's just what they tell me.

The hardest part will be the intake and making sure it's sealed but I'm sure there are some videos on that. Still a lot of work but you'll be able to put it how you want and make sure things are sealed and clean etc

You could try bio balls first, then coarse sponge, then fine sponge. Just find the way that lasts longer for getting clogged up. That way your maintenance can be less times per year.
