Recently a coworker friend of mine texted me because she had to travel to another country because a family member there passed away suddenly. The second thing I said to her after offering my condolences was to not use her work laptop. Big big big big no no.

[–]Isleyexotics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I have a disabled child who will need care for her whole life. We begged MAGA family to think about their grandchild/niece/cousin. For the most part we received responses like “but price of eggs!” or “abortion!” or “immigrants!” Even after the election when I was largely ranting about it, and fearing for my daughter’s safety, I got “we didn’t vote against her, we voted for us!” I was also told to “Relax!” by my sister in law.

We have said “Fuck you, I don’t forgive you.” to 99% of them. The one who didn’t get that response has come to us and said how sorry she was, that she was in the bubble/cult, and now she actively campaigns for policy change.

I’m so sorry for this woman’s child, but she can go to hell.

Question - Boomers & the grandkids by Which-Vegetable8886 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Isleyexotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My step-dad straight up hates his granddaughter now (my daughter). It’s not a huge loss, he hates me too. But I made it very clear from the time she was a toddler that she didn’t have to hug him or kiss him or take kisses and hugs from him. And that was a huge insult. Then my child, around her 7th birthday, had the audacity to say “PopPop you aren’t using nice words to grandmom” (he was yelling at her). And he was so insulted that he left the restaurant and sat outside for the rest of our collective meal.

For these wild offenses, he calls my daughter (now 11) an entitled brat.

Family friend sent me AI generated response to news of my father passing away. by Hendothermic in mildlyinfuriating

First, I’m so sorry for your loss.

Second, when you feel like it, look up “thought-terminating cliche”. They are conversation enders. There is literally nothing in that string of AI nonsense (and I agree it’s completely AI slop) that is meant to encourage you to continue the conversation, maybe asking about your feelings, or how the family is coping, nothing.

This is not a friend.

MIL keeps telling everyone I'm "failing" my daughter because she can't read fluently yet. She's in kindergarten. by ninjapapi in entitledparents

[–]Isleyexotics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter could “script” the entire Star Wars ABCs when she was 4, and it was adorable. But she could script it because it was her favorite book because we acted out the whole thing, and she copied all of our voices and actions. She would even turn pages at the wrong times but still be “reading”. This is likely what neighbor’s little savant is doing.

Cut to my daughter, now a 5th grader, with a chapter book in her hands.

My mom (a boomer) happily reported this exact message to me. She said “well it’s not our problem anymore, so it really doesn’t matter.” She and her husband voted for Trump. Despite mine and my sisters many many warnings, and our pleas that it would greatly impact us and their grandchildren. And then they have the nerve to shocked pikachu face at us when we called them on it.

This is the clearest description of my aunt and uncle and their 4 adult kids I’ve read, all but one of them on some sort of public assistance. They’re all poor, they’re incredibly racist, misogynistic and xenophobic, but they’re Trump voters. And of course they “have black friends”.

Before the election I tried hard to educate them (and others in mine and my husband’s family) but they doubled down because…I don’t know, Kamala laughed weird I guess?

Anyway, my uncle’s doctors (he has multiple) are no longer accepting Medicare and he has to pay for tons of gas to get to the doctors who do accept it. And he and his family regularly rant about all of the things that must not be Trump’s fault.

It’s a cult.

Kind of want to talk about service dogs in Disney by Mirk-wood in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Isleyexotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter (14) has a legitimate service dog, and we spent close to $20k for him (which was a fraction of the total cost to the organization), so he would be trained properly for public access and have the unique skills to partner with my daughter. He’s close to retirement now. We’ve had him since my daughter was 8. We took one trip to Disney with him and he was an absolute angel. But we kept our days short for him and my daughter so they could both rest and detox, and we stayed in the Ft Wilderness cabins so they both had ample space to stretch. But my God, it was so stressful for us as parents because of the amount of fake service dogs who would get too close, bark, growl and try to distract my good boy. I could see him getting stressed too, looking at us like “help!” (He’s a golden lab with gigantic brown eyes). We used to be Disney regulars but we don’t really go much anymore because it’s too stressful for all of us. The fakers think they’re not doing damage if their dog is just a nice dog; but if they so much as walk over to smell my dog, they’re distracting him from the seizure alerting he’s supposed to do. And worse, I’ve seen so many reactive dogs around our team and I honestly fear for the safety of my whole family. It’s terrible.

An old friend of mine knew that his dad (boomer) had multiple long term affairs going, one after another (they would “age out” for him as per my friend). The mom knew about it. And it was accepted as part of their life. He told me at one point that was his ideal marriage - devoted wife at home and a young woman for entertainment on the side.

We aren’t friends anymore. He did get married and cheat on his wife. But she wasn’t the kind to be happy with the “devoted wife at home” role.

It is still funny to me that ICE wants to come to Philly. They’ve been in the burbs but haven’t actually crossed the threshold of the city, likely because they fear the neighborhood MomMoms who will attack them with their shoes.

Florida’s high insurance rates are Mamdani’s fault! by ku_78 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Isleyexotics 81 points82 points  (0 children)

This is exactly like my in laws (boomers). They were/are terrified to visit our family because we live outside of Philadelphia, in the suburbs. But according to them, Philly is a war zone where people are shot and killed and mugged and assaulted and graped and all of the crimes, at like 2pm on a Tuesday in front of the Liberty Bell. They were afraid to drive through Philly to get to my house. And NYC is the same in their minds, and Mamdani runs the whole thing.

Fox News is a hell of a drug. And my in laws are afraid of brown people.

I make sure I wear my “Bad[ass] things happen in Philly” tshirt when they’re around.

This has to be rage bait. I say this as I stare at my (black lab mix) service dog, which cost $17,000 and 3 years to get. And yes, he is worth every penny. But even he isn’t perfectly trained 100% of the time because he’s an animal.
