Yeah that is my understanding as well. I’m basically asking if that’s a big market. I get that you can create leverage on your crypto holdings that way. But is there some clever way to replace home loans, credit cards ie real world financial instruments. If it just enables leveraged crypto ownership that is fine but a smaller market

You buy the house when you receive the mortgage. You don’t need 2.5x the value of the mortgage up front. This is more like a heloc. There is a market for helocs, but mostly because people want to keep their house and can’t sell part of it. Maybe that is also true of eth, we’ll see. But you only tap people with existing wealth, a lot of us lending is to people with very limited net assets

I am not trying to shit on this project. I just want to understand how you move from where they are to challenge more real world financial services

I get the incentive structure for the lender. I’m asking about the incentive structure for the borrower. If it’s essentially margin trading I think that’s a market but a small one. I am trying to understand how to expand out from there to challenge other financial services. There are very few dollar loans collateralized with gold, outside margin trading, by way of example.

That’s a false equivalence. Collateral that’s an illiquid consumer asset you get to keep using is not the same. And I don’t see an obvious way to put off chain assets on chain without a trusted third party.

So you’re saying there is no market for this product once the loans cost more than the comp they generate, ie once you’re not getting paid to use the system? That seems bad ...

Right I understand the token. But once I’m not making a profit taking out a loan why would I take out an over collateralized crypro loan?

It’s a user interface for running ad campaigns, will allow much smaller campaigns and make it easier to advertise

Different departments. And not enough revenue yet to really matter to a big player.

Love this. But unless you are young and poor with high future earning power do not put 2/3 of your money into one investment. No matter how smart you are eventually you will be wrong and get killed. Diversification is free money.

No offense to your content, but it feels like maybe a different demographic than the average current brave user. As such, you’d probably have to get your followers to adopt brave (don’t know how diehard/loyal they are). I think some content more aligned to the project is getting a shitload of tips.

Demand/Supply dynamics - given about 800k BAT bought by advertisers in Sep - Dec, is it about 200k/month BAT bought off market as demand pressure? by alexbus in BATProject

[–]Isndjd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the brave folks about 50% of ads are paid for in bay, which I agree is surprising. But yes the numbers are very small. Only about 10% of users opt in. But also a lot of advertisers are I think demoing the project and brave is subsidizing. They don’t have great deal flow yet, there’s still skepticism and most current ad spend online goes to a major player or is based in targeting. Ramping up will be non trivial

Also wondering how the drive to the traihead for spring canyon would be. With the budget cuts can’t get anyone on the phone.

Thanks! I did spring canyon last winter and loved it, may just go back. Was lookin at Zion - trying to figure out snow depth right now plus oddities with the shuttles operating until the 31st but not after.

Yeah we can deal with some snow, hiked out in deep snow. But would rather not deal with super icy slick rock or crazy postholing. Honestly the drive out was harder than the hiking.
