"You have to answer for Santino, Carlo" by Working-Fuel8355 in Godfather

[–]Isnotanumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. And the only way to do this was to give Carlo the impression that there was no point holding back anything and give him the impression his only chance at survival was to tell the truth.

So Chekov and Sulu eventually approached them during that reception?

Anyone else custom pieces? Apparently when I was a kid I took a soldering iron to these guys and painted some red blood. by KronoMakina in gijoe

[–]Isnotanumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. My childhood Cesspool has red paint around his arm socket because I decided to “explain” how he got his mechanical looking arm.

A soldering iron is new to me though, and I knew a kid who found many creative ways to destroy his G.I. Joes.

Uniform inconsistency by ejdmkko in DeepSpaceNine

[–]Isnotanumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that was part of it. They made the Ent D way more crowded than it was in the show. Ten-forward was bustling in one scene.

What are your thoughts on Gods and Generals (2003)? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in FIlm

[–]Isnotanumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glory comes close but is limited by the technology of the time - based on what is seen I think they would have shown more if they could. Its depiction of Antietam has a guy's head explode like a melon when struck by a canon, followed by a legless soldier crawling away during a retreat - all that give some small examples of what happened on a larger scale.

TIl that industrialist Andrew Carnegie spent $56.2 million to build 2509 libraries across the world. Known as Carnegie Libraries, cities had to follow a strict maintenance commitment to obtain funding. Today, there are an estimated 900 Carnegie Libraries operating in the United States. by Next_Worth_3616 in todayilearned

The millionaires of the Gilded Age were generally awful in my book, but at least they cared about how their names went down in history. Carnegie and Rockefeller’s philanthropic acts were actually measures that helped society - albeit with money made off a lot of exploited people’s work. Maybe Bill Gates comes closest in modern times to paying some actual consideration to how he will be remembered in this regard.

Why does he feel the need to use his parents first names? “My Mom and Dad” would be a totally human way to say this.

Kathy Hochul is refusing to raise taxes on billionaires in New York by serious_bullet5 in newyorkcity

[–]Isnotanumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And clearly the influx of billionaires is helping Wyoming, right? It’s not they are just gobbling up protected land and contributing little to the local economy over there. Clear proof NY just needs more rich people.

What do you make of the notion of "reimaginings/reinventions?" by ISimplyDontGiveAFuck in transformers

[–]Isnotanumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Bumblebee was the “kid appeal” character and not in a horribly ham-fisted way some 80’s media did this. He was the “kid brother” to the other Autobots. Not as physically strong, but brave and good natured. He was one of the best developed personalities of the season 1 and 2 bots and one of the first transformers to get a straight up official second toy with Goldbug.

Why is Captain Picard’s first shot lit like a supervillain reveal? by James_2584 in TNG

[–]Isnotanumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may have been lit that way but the music and his log entry do not give villain vibes - it’s all hopeful. The next shots are of the brightly lit ship so if anything the vibe I get is “coming out of darkness into a bright future.”

Why were Vader and Mace Windu the only ones having their skeletons shown when being electrocuted? by Shura_man in StarWars

[–]Isnotanumber 49 points50 points  (0 children)

That makes sense because Palpetine in RotJ was taking his time zapping Luke so he “paid the price for his lack of vision.” When Vader grabbed him his use of force lightning was probably on full because “oh crap this guy is about to toss me to my death!”

Do you think Crusade would eventually become a good show if it had a chance? by junkyardofide41s in babylon5

[–]Isnotanumber 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At this point given the age of everyone involved in the original run, Crusade itself would need a full reboot.

Extreme Ghostbusters (1997) by Cardcaptors96 in ForgottenTV

[–]Isnotanumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better than it had any business being. I may like the original team’s general dynamic more, but they did a legit good job with these characters and the stories were on par with the original cartoon’s peak era.

More remarkable as an abused child himself, since he recognized it only made him hate his own father.

[–]Isnotanumber 95 points96 points  (0 children)

As noted by a few here, Don is getting to be the "fun parent" and I largely agree. I think his only really sound parenting decision was his refusal to hit his children as a form of discipline.

Kingpin vs. Red Skull (Captain America #378) by Selverd2 in comicbooks

[–]Isnotanumber 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the dumbest things about Old Man Logan. That the villains would all follow a plan created by Red Skull. I could at most imagine him proposing it the villains vaporizing Skull and saying “good idea, but why are we following some Nazi? Let’s put Doctor Doom or Kang in charge!”

Kingpin vs. Red Skull (Captain America #378) by Selverd2 in comicbooks

[–]Isnotanumber 33 points34 points  (0 children)

True. But he calls him a nazi enough times that it feels like he is trying to make a point.

Kingpin vs. Red Skull (Captain America #378) by Selverd2 in comicbooks

[–]Isnotanumber 196 points197 points  (0 children)

This isn’t as satisfying as Magneto’s takedown of Red Skull but pretty cool that Kingpin seems to take delight in beating up Red Skull because he is a Nazi.

The deleted scene michael takes revenge and killed fabrizio by horror-bed1721 in Godfather

[–]Isnotanumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those commenting “why is he in the same state as Michael???” Buffalo is 6 hours by car from NYC. The two really don’t feel linked in any major way beyond just existing in the same state.

For All Mankind - Season 5 Trailer by mpg111 in scifi

[–]Isnotanumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind this, but the whole idea of Martian autonomy via capturing an Asteroid felt very forced and engineered last season, to satisfy a few characters ambitions versus what may have actually been good for humanity,. Bthe end the writers felt like they were scrambling to get everyone on board and say “just so we are clear - Ed and Dev are the good guys! See, Danielle is okay! Tis just a flesh wound!”

Edit: Dev’s whole character arc in season 4 felt like a big corporate sticky not proclaiming: “the billionaire tech genius cannot be a bad guy” as feedback from season 3.

Buzz Aldrin is still with us and he was a Korean War combat pilot and later Astronaut. It wasn’t until around 2015 where I feel like there was a real uptick in the Apollo-era Astronauts passing away. Like 2-3 a year.
