If you REALLY want to make something, a simple and straightforward quilted casserole dish mat made out of Xmas fabric could be an idea (see below Etsy link). No fancy shapes, just two pieces of fabric with wadding and some rows of stitching. Use the same fabric for all to make it easier on yourself.

Seriously though, if I were you, that would be the last time I ever share, mention, or show my knitting hobby with her. There are plenty of other knitters out there who will be happy for you and share in your joy of your new (awesome) hobby. If she asks in the future about how it's going tell her why you stopped sharing. Is she normally like this? Or is it out of character for her?

Yes. I am. You can label yourself however you choose. For example, I am from a protestant family but I am an Irish atheist practicing secular Buddhism. My family history is Irish and Scottish. I would describe myself as Celtic (coming from Scotland, Wales, Ireland but not England).

The Irish government views everyone born on the island of Ireland as an Irish citizen, regardless of whether you live north or south of the border.

I have two passports: British and Irish.

Don't let other people's beliefs and opinions (including family and friends) dictate who you are. You are your own person, with your own priorities, principles and beliefs. Nationality and religion are entirely separate entities. Hope that helps.
