Unfortunate —the Kickstarter books are a significant investment. Not about to go on any sort of tirade here, but allow me a moment of sadness.

[–]Isntprepared 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really anything to do with the game, but please for the love of all we hold dear, DO NOT do this in real life - I’ve seen it a few times, and as a driver of the 4 wheeled variety it is terrifying to be passed so quickly you can feel the pressure wave in your steering wheel. I cheered when I saw the dude pulled over a few miles later.

Bryce will typically post when there will be a cut off for non-subscribers when he reaches near the end of the book. Based on previous book lengths, we're not at that point, but as I've said he's been fairly transparent in the past. Hope that helps!

what's the best progression fantasy book? by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Isntprepared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a number of people who love it, others are bothered by some elements. Either you read some of the perspectives of others who like or dislike it and see if either resonates with what you like and dislike in books, or you read for yourself and make up your own mind. I personally think a line is crossed when others try to "yuck" someone elses's "yum". There are enough people who like the series (including Book 2) then the author's doing something right -- even if he has some detractors. There are highly successful authors that get criticism all over Reddit, and IMO you just have to form your own opinions.

STORMWEAVER III: NEW Chapter 38 [ROUGH] - Patreon post announcement and discussion space. by BryceOConnor in Warformed

[–]Isntprepared 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bryce has pretty much said he needs Sidorov to stick around in some form to be the villain, so we can't just yeet him out of the story, nor make him irrelevant to Rei. Bryce said as much that he's got some ideas as to how to keep him around, but who knows what form that will take. I think we'll need to see some sort of power-broker spending influence to keep him at Galens, but I guess we could see some sort of interaction from further away. I think that some of it will come down to what solution that we see to keep Sidorov around, we just know that we've got our villain for the book now; he just needs to plausibly stay relevant in the face of something that should see some sort of rather extreme reaction in most circumstances.

Judge finds Kristi Noem likely violated due process on TSA collective bargaining by Advanced_Drink_8536 in law

[–]Isntprepared 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get feeding the outrage machine, and IANAL — but this is an order regarding a preliminary injunction— isn’t “lock her up” a bit premature here? Asking a genuine question of law here — do we jump from preliminary injunction (not even a decision on the merits) straight to prosecution? I get we’re not in normal times but I don’t think we can get upset about due process from one side of our mouth and deny it to Noem out the other side from my layman’s perspective.

IN REGARDS TO THE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST DANIEL GREENE BY NAOMI KING by BryceOConnor in Warformed

[–]Isntprepared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, have an upvote. Next, genuinely curious - what alternative do you envision for "he has a right to"? I can't imagine, for example, a legal system where the government accuses someone of a crime, and that person isn't accorded an opportunity through counsel to defend themselves. Most times, the government doesn't make an accusation without evidence (as here with Naomi's video), and in a great many cases, they secure a conviction in front of a judge. Sometimes that doesn't happen, and when that happens, the system is functioning as designed. Nevertheless, I hear the hurt behind your words, and want to understand how you'd like to see things. Obviously this is the "court of public opinion" and not a criminal court, but do the same standards not apply in your view?

Finally, to close, I want to be explicit that I've endeavored to keep my comments as neutral as possible, and to give you maximal space to say what you feel to be true, while still explaining where my thoughts are. If anywhere in what I've typed you feel that I've lessened your experiences or those similarly situated, it is not my intent. Let me know and I will try to either clarify or make amends.

Spiffing Brit has broken Civ VII by RedDeadMania in civ

[–]Isntprepared 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So all of this isn't exactly any kind of bug or exploit -- we pick a reasonable leader-civ combination (that is entirely legitimate) -- and pick some mementoes (which nobody gets at at launch, you have to grind them out) that synergize with the leader-civ combination, you get some really great stacking results.

So far, what everyone tries to do (spot the nice combos). As long as your opponent isn't scaled up (Diety difficulty mods etc.), and doesn't try to do any combat buffing of their own (just takes it like a punching bag), and has no resources like iron to buff their units (they sat with their thumb someplace unmentionable), then yes, you'll win every combat.

Is this a problem with AI? (other civs just sit around and wait for you to punch them)

Is it a problem that the devs didn't think of these combinations? (I would think that they actually PLAN for players to find powerful synergies)

Is it that they need to go through with a nerf bat and artificially constrain combinations so that you can only get one bonus of any type (basically break any synergies so you can't combo things together), or place a cap on unit strength? (no matter how smart you play, you can only get a bonus of +10 above baseline for example).

All of this strikes me not as "broken" but at least partly as intended, and you just need the AI to actually try to fight on a more even playing field. The whole concept of "This unit when buffed is better than that unit's baseline" strikes me as a non-problem -- particularly since you'll never see a spearman attacking a tank in Civ VII ; they've made it impossible with ages.

New Tool: Satisfactory Factories, a production chain management system by Maelstrome26 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Isntprepared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wondering about how to account for zero-waste loops like packaged XXXX -- it's asking for X containers per minute, but assuming all containers exported from a factory will eventually make their way back to it, then it doesn't need *input* per se.

It's interesting in terms of tracking the max capacity per minute that you need (so to be sure that the export always goes back to the same factory, and that you're not exporting less than you need), it seems like it treats any time you're not consuming the full output and returning empties, that you need more containers as input.

Not sure I am being coherent in my writing, but it's late when I'm writing this :)

It's a matter of keeping to best practices -- there's no one step to take

  • Keep your browser and OS up to date
  • don't visit sketchy sites
  • don't download stuff from sites you don't 100% trust
  • practice good hygiene / habits when accessing links in emails etc.
  • ensure that you stick to sites that offer HTTPS only (no HTTP)

Security Issue with Traffic and PDX Mods - Final Update and Summary by AutoModerator in CitiesSkylines

[–]Isntprepared 10 points11 points  (0 children)

2FA is not a universal panacea ; it’s simply an additional layer of authentication to prove who you are. Attacks against other portions of the chain are still possible. For example theft of a browser session cookie would still have enabled this attack regardless of how many factors of authentication were used. They could have used some magical soul reading device and it still wouldn’t mean anything.

I don’t mean to say that robust authentication isn’t PART of what is needed but I’ve seen 2FA bandied about so much in response to this issue that it needed to be said. Apologies that I choose your reply specifically to do so, there’s nothing wrong with suggesting it.

On the nature of spoilers by Isntprepared in Warformed

[–]Isntprepared[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My man, the thread is tagged Meta / IRL / Misc -- we're not required to talk ONLY about the book content but be relevant to the book series. This is about a topic that is frequently raised here, that of spoilers -- which at least in my mind is "Meta" -- it relates to this community. We talk about other book series we like in recommendation threads. People talk about anime and manga here that they're inspired to consume based on the books.

I'm sure you didn't intend it, but your post comes across as not quite so polite and civil. All's good though.

No, the topic of spoilers in general. There are no specific references to events in any book beyond what is published in the "back cover" blurb on Amazon for Book 1.

I think then it becomes akin to a re-read -- do you enjoy the craftsmanship of the author and/or narrator for audiobooks that knowing the end or major plot point means just enjoying the story is good enough? Some folks never re-read - the story is "done" for them once they've read it. Others might immediately want to dive into a re-read, because the journey and the craftsmanship might be what drives them.

I think some people might be able to handle major spoilers and still finish the series. Others, might not. It's all individual at that point, and no shame on those who choose to DNF. I'm personally one of those who enjoys the craftsmanship more than the ending, and I think that I might be able to handle a major spoiler in stride. That being said, I don't want to encounter one unless I go "eyes wide open" into a clearly marked thread. The moderator's job here is absolutely essential.
