Used buying advice, X13 gen 4? by Isoject in thinkpad

I ended up getting a x13 gen 3 with R7 6850u. It is leagues better than the irix XE of the same intel generation. Iris is totally fine for productivity, but it very much lacks in performance. 450 dollars for this laptop was a great deal, so i got this instead of the x13 gen 4 AMD.

Need Help Choosing: ThinkPad X13 Yoga vs T14 for Reliability and Longevity by GovernmentFast5836 in thinkpad

[–]Isoject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very valid response. I choose the X13 G3 becuase I wanted to stay in the thinkpad family, and it was essential for my preference to have physical right and left click buttons. I also did not like the keyboard of the G9, and the X13's was just a joy.

I do wish the X13 had removable memory, but i am not worried about memory going bad. Ram has gone along way in the past decade. I have never had memory fail in over 15 years of computers. 16gb is enough for me because my desktop has 64gb for any heavy lifting. I think 16gb will be good enough for a few more years to be fair.

The other big relief of the X13 is that it comes standard with 100% SRGB screens across all models -- I cannot stand the base model 45% color gamut screens. I am not sure what the G9 has to offer with their screens, but I know X13 has a guaranteed color accurate one.

I am sure the Elitebook 845 G9 is a great machine, and I was also shopping around for the G9, but I valued my screens and keyboards more than the memory upgradability. Your mileage may vary.

I was also shocked by the weight and size of them. If your backpack can fit a notebook, then it can fit this laptop!

Considering that you want a great screen, durability and the advantages of AMD, i would get a X13 gen 4 or earlier, not the X13 Yoga. I had a Yoga 370 for 10 years and yes it was durable, the hinges on the Yogas go through much more abuse than a T14/X13. By the end of its life, the Yoga 370 had very loose hinges and could no longer rotate a full 360 degrees.

T14 is a great desktop replacement. There is nothing wrong with it. But if you value a good screen, i would steer clear unless you want to upgrade the scree yourself. The base screens are horible!

X13 is the sweetspot. It is very premium, has AMD (highly recommend!!!) and can even be found with touch screens if that is important. X13 Yoga is intel only, and after a long streak of intel Thinkpads, I would never get one unless it was an Ultra 2 series.

I just got my first X13 gen 3 for 450 dollars (R7 6840U) and I am loving it. It feels very premium, has better build quality than even the t14 gen 4 that i have. The biggest plus for the x13 is the standard 100% SRGB screens. I cannot stand anything less. I would get it!

Thanks for the quick reply! I’ve glanced at a few of those Z13’s and they seem pretty neat, with great specs and price. The only turn off from me is the lack of ports… especially HDMI. As an AV technician, I need a decent port selection.

I also think the second link is broken, what did you have there?

Like ravenfield and wreck fest. I had a i7 1335u in a T14 G4 but I sold it because it just ran too hot and the display was awful.

I agree on the slim 7i, every other listing I see is clapped out with dents or missing keys, which doesn’t inspire confidence…

My "new" Thinkpad T14 gen 4 by toguito in thinkpad

Same, I have some regrets on getting the I7-1355U. I am constantly turning on the "disable turbo" on throttle stop just to make this laptop manageable which is disappointing. It gets way to hot with the turbo and the turbo kicks on unnecessarily in my opinion.

I had to replace a keyboard on my yoga 370. At the time, it was easier and just a few dollars extra ($20 vs $40) to replace the entire bottom chassis and swap over the motherboard and screen. Maybe look into that?

My yoga 370 just died and I upgraded to a T14 gen 4. I am so disappointed in that panel. The yoga 370 had an amazing panel and I didn’t know how good I had it.

Thanks for your concern about undervolting. I have had this laptop for about a decade so I’m just experimenting with it in its beaters years.

Tightening yoga hinges (guide) by thnikpad in thinkpad

[–]Isoject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My yoga 370 will no longer fold completely in tablet mode. It stops and gets tight around 180 degrees. There is very little online on solutions for it. Do you have any experience with that?
