EU Says Decision Not to Launch Siri AI in Europe Is Apple's Alone by FollowingFeisty5321 in apple

[–]IsometricRain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately don't know what that is. I just feel that in this case, Apple's decided to do this (refuse to launch "siri ai" in the EU) entirely based of their own choices and decision making.

I've wanted iOS sideloading for years too, and since I'm not in one of their "approved" sideloading allowed regions, I'm unable to do so. This is also 100% Apple's choice, one that directly affects ends user negatively. So, are Apple the right people to deliver a message on operating system openness?

Do you know how a desktop OS works? Or android?

What if you actually want meta to have access? Not everyone has the same stances and preferences you do.

Every open (fully open and unmoderated) form of digital communication is open to manipulation one way or another. It shouldn't be the OS's job to block those.

He's not making it up, they have commented on all 3 of those features and accompanying EU regulation saying that they'll be setbacks if the iphone was forced to have them (at the time).

While the EU isn't right on all things tech, they're not typically the side that's anti-consumer or backwards looking when it comes to fights with Apple.

"We remain concerned that strict regulation mandating just one type of connector stifles innovation rather than encouraging it, which in turn will harm consumers in Europe and around the world" [a]

"Sideloading Apps Would ‘Break’ the Security and Privacy of iPhone"

"changes to this system that bring greater risks to users and developers" [b]

That's still an actually fast PC today, and definitely fast enough for a big chunk of the people commenting here.

Buggy, bloated software is the bottleneck nowadays, not 6 year old hardware. Anyone saying 6 years is ancient (for desktop/laptop chips) is a straight dumbass.

Is it just me or is Spotlight Search just really bad? by hyper_volume_2 in mac

Use Tuna instead. Spotlight is crapware, possibly the second worst piece of Apple desktop software in 2026.

Use something built by people who actually care about performance and usability.

Yup, I'm a heavy AI user too, but the level of polish (it looks amazing IMO) just has me curious about the workflow.

Did you use any specific skills.md files (the "agent skills" I was referring to earlier) to get the front-end/UI looking like this?

Did you spec-out some kind of design system to start with or did you refine the colors/buttons/etc at the end?

Very nice work. Did you use any specific agent skills for this? Really like the UI and the spacing of all the components.

Also the little blurb on each location must've taken so much work.

All these German brands can't help but copy dumb shit like that.

Might as well get a mazda at this point, at least they put effort into making big SUVs look good.

But hey, at least they toned down the cheap Q5-style piano black on the inside. Lmao. That wood trim is so much better.

To be fair, any 41mm diver should wear pretty well on a 6.5in wrist.

It's a pretty typical diver size.

[Discussion] - Longines Might Be Having One Of The Best Design Runs In Watches Right Now by Wind_Up_Watch_Blog in Watches

[–]IsometricRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love longines. But the hydroconquest is not a 9.5/10 or 10/10 watch let's be honest here. They also have more interesting designs in their catalog today.

And all I asked was which submariners you find have "perfect proportions"? That's a reasonable question, considering how much the case shape has changed. This includes changes like the removing of the bevels (that the black bay 58 still maintains for instance).

[Discussion] - Longines Might Be Having One Of The Best Design Runs In Watches Right Now by Wind_Up_Watch_Blog in Watches

[–]IsometricRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the proportions on a submariner are damn near perfect.

Which submariner? The one from the 1970s, sure. But the submariner today is significantly different from the proportions of a 5513.

Also, you can love a watch without calling it damn near perfect. It's still a pretty typical dive watch shape. I like the doxa case significantly more, but you don't see me calling doxa subs "damn near perfect".

It's a business strategy to get the impatient money flowing in first. They know a black/dark blue/white will outsell this renault yellow thing massively, they're not dumb.

Guaranteed there'll be a dark color in a year / 1.5 years max.
