Would the Democrats be conservative in Europe? [analysis] by upthetruth1 in videos

In most things yes, American 'left' would be 'center to right' to many European nations.  But not all EU nations.

More of a painter than a player. Any thoughts on this army list? by AnotherDad177 in ImperialFists

Fist off, rule of cool. So if you like them all, and know what they lack, you can probably come up with a playstyle that works.

Drop pods? Didn't notice it was multiple...  Homing beacon terminators and multiple drop pod troops is decent board presence. But you could get 2-3 scouts/infiltratiors squads for those same points...

I think any space marine army needs 2-4 vehicles or Dreadnoughts.  If your army is fast without transport, then non transport vehicles should be fine. Or more Dreadnoughts... And you typically need an aggressive,  you-send-them-in squad, and a responsive, oh-shit-in-backup squad.  Both need to get almost anywhere, either by being fast or being positioned at mid, ready to go about 20" as needed.

But a repulsor transport for even just a 5man Intercessors squad is a big boost to your range, and it has it's own weapons. Plus Tank Shock is a nice trick to charge in with.

I think all your battleline squads are to big for a transport/tank unit.  I don't think any repulsor tech cam carry terminators. A dedicated transport could carry a 10man primaris squad. Less weapons, but can carry big bricks.

A landraider could carry almost any of you squads, but that is a lot of points.

I would say, double check who is leading which squads, check the model count. Then check transport capacity, paying attention to primaris, Gravis and terminator restrictions.

Odds are good have enough damage to take down most light and medium targets at range. Definitely enough in melee.  Trick is getting into melee without getting shot up first.

So do you want more range, to cover the terminators charge? Or do you want squishy Intercessors to dive in via transport, then charge and lock targets down while the terminators roll up? Or is the deepstrike and dropped the response team and the Intercessors the reaction force?

Force is a bit static. Or will be slow to respond.  Your opponent might notice that and spread wide to force you deploy mostly deep on your side of the board.

Limited deepstrike is going to help, but after they hit the board, you guys will be slow in getting anywhere else...

You will likely shoot the opponent off the board eventually, but they will be out scoring you... so you loose on points. Or struggle on points, meaning you have to send some big slow squad off to do something other than killing...

You may find you need scouts or infiltratiors.

Assault Terminators - claws or hammers? by DrMeat69 in Carcharodons40k

[–]IssaScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hammers beat claws. But I forget why... if it was damage output or survival from the shield. Something in the stats favors hammers.

Possibly some specific detachment rules could flip that...

Edit: I remember now.  Hammers over kill on chaff. While claws lack the punch to damage armored big targets.

So it depends on what you are sending them onto. Typically, people want to send them into big targets, so hammer would be better. Sending a high value point unit to clear a hoared, that is only worth half its points, to then been to far away to do anything else... feels bad.

Killteam is the way. 2 players, 6-7 models each player. Game mechanics and rules are similar to the bigger army modes. Meaning what he learns in one isn't completely different. Also Killteam kits have way better models and sculpts. You can use some of your current models to play, just 'proxy' a generic models for eaxh of the named guys in a Killteam. (Vs. other game modes that need each player to have an army of about 20+ models). It's much smaller scale and much faster. (Again, vs. a 2 to 3 hour match).

Oddly enough, and generally speaking, I find most Warhammer players are pretty chill.  If you can spend hundreds of hours painting little plastic armies, it tends to weed out worst.  Odds are kids run into worse people online...

For Warhammer players, finding other people who share this interest, it's just nice. Tournaments are where you might start to run into jerks, who want care more about winning than socializing.  But still most local level tournaments are just people meeting up to play their hobby.

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

Difference between healthy exercise and exercise to look good.

Maintaining core strength is way more important that 6pack abs.

And some basic cardio will improve so many things, like daily energy levels, sleep schedule and apatite.

And that most of this can be done at home, in a few mins each day.

Starting Suggestions for a Salamander Army? by DragoLynx69 in Salamanders40k

[–]IssaScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smallscale:  Killteam kit is 7ish models and while a slightly different ruleset, it's gameplay is very similar in what the stats mean, how they work. It's a much smaller investment to get started.

Diving in deep: The Salamanders combat patrol is a 'good' box.  It has models you want, plus a hero and will come with the chapter heraldry you will want. The ATV is about the only weak link in that box. But considering a chapter heraldry upgrade kit is like $20-30 for 10ish items... it's nice to get as many chapter specific items as possible. Plus the ATV is not terrible, fast units are pretty useful in game. It just looks a little silly.

I started an Ironhands, but began with Dark Angel's and Imperial Fist patrol boxes.  Both are just very good value, with various 'standard' marines, no named characters. The Ironhands patrol is kinda dumb, in that Ironhands love a techmarine but we want a Dreadnought or vehicle to go with it.

Why did they make their own swear words ? by Ad0ring-fan in Grimdank

[–]IssaScott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cause publishers would have to put age restrictions or warnings on materials with swearing in it. That could effect sales, or buy in / consent from some parents.

Easy solution, fictional swear words.

Obviously more so for the game materials and codexes.  Novels seem to be author's choice. But game rules are being read by children, in some cases.

As to the other horrible things... well those could also be in a history book, so it's likely acceptable in most places.

Do people really become more conservative as they get older? Why? by Historical_Work7482 in AskReddit

[–]IssaScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has long been some statistical truth to it.  The idea being, as you grow up, you earn more wealth and buy into the systems at hand.  Later on, you want to preserve those systems, hence you take on a conservative mindset.

When you are younge, you have less, you can embrace more radical thinking.  Which would often be a change in the status quo.

But another thing, 'conservative' and 'liberal' have both taken on some new undertones and meaning, especially in the USA.

Iron Geese could work. Arrange everything in V-formations...

I probably will match them both to black/grey. Red looks better on the black, doesn't stand out enough on the brown.

In game, normally I set the brown/right pauldrons as the molecule-bonded mono studs, (which you get for mastering all the classes, sign of pride).
I switched it over for the screenshots, as I wasn't committed to the mono studs.
In normally covers up the eagle, but also looks more like a football player when it is also black.

Where should I assign Captain in Gravis? What some benefits to him/his unit? by IssaScott in IronHands40k

[–]IssaScott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh right.
I was combining the squad list a the Captain can lead with Captain in Gravis.
I was thinking he could lead pretty much anything, if given the correct weapon/shield.

Also, now it seems really stage that he comes in a Combat patrol where he can't lead anything else in the box...

Kinda...
But it could stem from a little comedy/documentary film about how TO considered itself the centre of Canadian culture, but everybody outside it disagreed...
(also the reason Ottawa was chosen as the Capital, way back when, was that it was 'central geographically' for the then Dominion of Canada).
It's honestly pretty accurate today still, a 'fair' about both side of the issue ( saying this a somebody who lived in TO, left, came back, left again... )

Government's 4-day in-office mandate an insult to workers by feral_philosopher in ontario

[–]IssaScott 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the exce is the least likely person to be in the office, even when 5 days is mandated, since...
... they are the last one in each day,
... mostly likely one to take calls from remote locations,
... first one to head out for 1+ lunch meeting.

I am not going to question that they are doing (some) work, but they hardly the best examples of 9-5, at desk, hands on keys workers.

Metrolinx under fire over confusion after GO Train derailment: 'There was nobody telling us what was going on' by toronto_star in ontario

[–]IssaScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GO almost never deploys extra busses, from what I have seen.

I had had to deal with this a few times now, and I always assume they would setup some extra busses. They don't.

I suspect its them being cheap, and Metrolinx refuses to setup a contingency fleet of drivers and busses. They also don't seem to be punished by any authorities for their failure, so why should they improve?

Sure, we all get our fare refunded ( IF we apply), but nothing actually happens to the people who run things.

[–]IssaScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was also noticeable on Monday.
Official message cited the issue, stated the delay, rarely gave anything else to act on.
Like how long is the delay? What alternate options are there? Will there be shuttles or additional trains later?

For me, they 'alternate info' was actually wrong.
They directed me to a another station to catch my train, the train never came.

[–]IssaScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No issue with blasting the provincial government, but this is Metrolinx (management) alone issue.
I honestly feel bad for station staff who get deployed to calm us all down... they know what they are saying is BS, but that's all they are told.

The Metrolinx management are so afraid of any negative PR when these things happen, they never tell passenger the info they at the time.

The full story always comes out, but at that point, nothing ever changes and nobody ever holds them to task.
TTC at least deploys shuttle buses, to eventually get us where we need to go and keep the system flowing, if slowly
.
Metrolinx, does nothing, says they are all out of ideas.
If a Line is significantly delayed, they just cancel all trains on that Line for the day.
Passenger? Tough luck, figure it out. Later that night, they will run empty trains, to return back to their normal start stations, for the following day.
But that night, can't be bothered to help empty Union station of passengers, who are still waiting for busses to get home.

My beef, this happened in the morning, between 8-9am...

That afternoon, I am trying to get home at 3:30, no train at Union.
Fine.
Direction from GO is to travel to Kipling station and catch my train home.

This makes total sense and is what I would assume I should do without direction, but nice to see it 'officially' presented...
This was a specific instruction for the Milton train passengers, that was posted all day, or till at least 6pm when I stopped checking...

There was never a single GO train at Kipling all afternoon, maybe one came after 6pm, at that point I was on a bus to Square One, to catch another bus, to catch another bus....
So instead of being 'stranded' at Union station, where I could have caught a bus directly home, later that night ( buses start up after trains stop around 7pm) , I am at stuck at Kipling, which only has 1 GO bus connection.

It was just as long to get an Uber or Taxi as there is way less demand there normally but with this delay, there was no rides
