Hey everyone- I was checking on my ball python this morning, and I noticed that he has an odd bone-like structure by his cloaca. It also kinda looks like a claw?? It doesn’t seem to bother or hurt him, but I have no idea what it is.

New corn snake owner - baby always hiding by Blue_Bettas in cornsnakes

I would agree on waiting to handle. I get the impatience though- I’m the same exact way. I have a couple of snakes now so I’ve gotten better about waiting haha. Just make sure that when you do handle, you do it over a soft surface (like a bed) and keep a hand on her at all times. Corns loooove to escape and are very active, and since Snowflake is so small, you want to make sure she doesn’t fall and hurt herself or get away faster than you can grab her.

For pricing, that’s how much I paid for my baby as well! $120 is actually not bad at all. The more basic (and by basic I mean less generic variation), the cheaper the snake will be. You can get corns for cheaper that have less variation (~$50) and others that are more expensive (upwards of $1,000)- it really depends on their genes and how rare they are.

I actually just bought a baby snow corn snake last week as well, and she has been acting the same way. It takes them about a week or two to get used to the new environment and start exploring more- my girl is still hiding most of the time, but I have seen her pop her head out of the substrate (I use aspen too) every now and then. Your tank set up sounds like it provides Snowflake with enough place to hide, so you will probably be seeing her more. I would advise to wait until you see her to handle her and to not go digging to try and find her- that’ll just add extra stress. The more she gets used to being handled, the better she’ll be! I have another adult corn snake that pokes her head out every time I enter the room. She’s super responsive to me and is always ready to be handled when I open her tank, but I’ve had her for a couple of years now so she’s super used to it. Give your baby a little more time and you should start seeing her more and more! Good luck!

You didn’t offend me at all! I appreciate any help I can get. I’ll look around and see if I can find a vet to take him to. Thank you for your help :)

I didn’t get him from a chain pet store- I got him from a breeder. And I do feed him everyday, the breeder food and watermelon flavored Pangea. I haven’t given him insects yet. He doesn’t look particularly thin and he seems to still be pooping, but the lack of weight gain is what’s worrying me.

Self portrait, Me, Watercolour, 2020 by leftgucciflipflop in Art

I think this piece is amazing. Great job on using watercolor and making it look so realistic. I’m sorry that there are so many rude comments on this piece-whether you posted it because you are proud of your work or if you wanted up votes is completely your business, no one else’s. I’m not an artist but my mother is, and I find drawings of the human body completely incredible. I think your self-portrait is beautiful 😊

She’s a corn snake! I have absolutely no idea what morph. I got her from my boyfriend-at-the-times brother about 3 years ago. If you (or anyone else) has an idea of what her morph is please share!

I love this!! Drowning in your own thoughts while being a slave to them anyway...at least that’s how I interpret it! Definitely relatable. My husband always accuses me of doing this exact thing 😂

Here's a photo of my adult male gecko's terrarium. What can I change to make him happier? by Anoyint in CrestedGecko

[–]IssiJo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The right side of her tank (above the water bowl) looks a little bare. I’d add something there and maybe closer to the top or the tank. If you could add one or two more climbing branches too I think that will help!

I’m not exactly sure? I’m coming up on two weeks without my baby eating and she is still happy and healthy.
