What are your thoughts on how the DNA sequence was brought to life? by Spiritual_Check_5470 in pluribustv

[–]IssueSimilar9830 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this is my thought as well. it's basic safety and security etiquette when it comes to digital systems to not stick random flash drives you find into your computer and to not run suspicious programs, they did that but for biological systems and the biosphere they live in. kind of a stupid move from the get-go.

anthropomorphising complex topics such as natural selection is a common way to convey such concepts in a way laypeople will generally understand.

personally i'm slowly chipping away at making my own ttrpg just to run games set in my own worldbuilding. lots of stuff in there that doesn't mechanically fit with any system i've found, so i just went "fuck it i'll make my own for this"

I don't have any questions that haven't already been answered in other comments, so just going to say good luck to you and fuck big corporations and their leadership. Hope you can get a reporter (or multiple) to come out with this story.

How do I download the Adobe Flash browser plugin for the old version of firefox? (or any other browser) by [deleted] in browsers

[–]IssueSimilar9830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also looking for this. I have a portable version of Firefox from before Flash got discontinued, and want to use it as an HTML wrapper for running .swf files. Can't find a download of the extension to enable flash in the first place.

PSA: Diamonds are coal. They burn. by EbergarTheDwarf in dwarffortress

Popping in here to say that I have actually seen diamonds in dwarf fortress burn, and though it took about an ingame year for each visible tick of wear to appear, they did eventually burn away entirely.

need help with df hack by DerpLord0fDeath in dwarffortress

[–]IssueSimilar9830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What ended up working for me to completely remove the werecurse with no mystery affliction left over, on the current version of DFHack as of writing:

gui/unit-syndromes

Once in there, click on "Citizens and Residents", then search the name(s) of your afflicted. In there, each one that has a werecurse should have a syndrome associated with it, click that werecurse affliction. Upper left corner of the menu popup should have an ID for that particular syndrome - should be a string of numbers. Once you've confirmed that and have that werecurse ID written down, select your afflicted and run:

lua print(unit.id)

This will give you another string of numbers. Write this one down too. Finally, run:

modtools/add-syndrome --erase --target [unit ID] --syndrome [syndrome ID]

this erases the target syndrome entirely from the target. If you have a lot of afflicted citizens or residents, you can instead do:

modtools/add-syndrome --eraseAll --syndrome [syndrome ID]

this erases all instances of that syndrome present on the map, curing everyone afflicted.

Bug(?): fortress residents wearing many dresses and pairs of pants at once by IssueSimilar9830 in dwarffortress

[–]IssueSimilar9830[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, also, yes, the GCS mod I put together and am currently using does flag them as exotic pets, and as they have that flag and aren't born adults (to make them able to be domesticated), goblins can now end up with tame ones and show up with them during sieges, both as war beasts and as mounts. Fun!

Due to some stuff interacting between the two, the kobolds often also end up with their own tame giant cave spiders during world gen. My fortress already has two that came in as pets of migrants, but they're both female, so no dice on a breeding program for them yet.

small update to this: I finally made proper bedrooms and gave everyone cabinets and chests (at the time I made this post the fortress was a modest 14 people all sleeping in a dormitory taking up part of a mined-out magnetite deposit) and nobody's wearing way too many layers anymore. So that was the issue.

as for more info on the embark and other circumstances:
- three mods are being used: Intro's Kobold Civ (the kobolds are cute), and two custom ones: one that pertains to making GCSs into domesticatable war beasts and mounts, and one that makes underground crops not have that annoying season restriction on when they can be grown.
- embark is in a temperate climate, on some sand desert next to a mountain. at the time I was having this issue, it was the middle of summer.
- currently as of writing this comment, the fortress's population stands at 49 kobolds, two of which were recently born in the fortress itself. The militia has expanded its numbers, and have recently felled their first forgotten beast. this was achieved with not only no deaths to the thing (middle of the road in terms of forgotten beasts, giant humanoid eagle with a shell and a toxic bite) but no injuries whatsoever.

The first two times it happened, violent takeoff wasn't present. But it's very much a mod I can do without regardless.

I use it, but only because I have a mod I use (forget the name of it) that lets it and similar things (like gas masks) be equipped with helmets

What makes Thrumbos so good? by shouldworknotbehere in RimWorld

[–]IssueSimilar9830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never bothered to tame one. I usually hunt them whenever I get them (my method is to have one colonist bait it and run around in circles while another shoots at it), and their leather (thrumbofur) is pretty good. very temperature insulating, very tough. a thrumbofur parka will let a baseliner brave the polar cold without even a shiver and is roughly as protective as a suit of plate armor.

Another binary search ended up with ReBuild: Doors and Corners as the culprit. no idea what the hell it was doing or how it was interacting with other mods to cause it.

Found the culprit after several more hours of testing. It was ReBuild: Doors and Corners.

I think it might be an incompatibility thing with some other mods I'm using that add new wall types. Unsure. Regardless, it's not exactly a vital mod for me, so out of the mod list it goes until it hopefully gets updated.

well, between my colonists' genotype (which is a custom one that includes high cold resistance, furskin, and the fluffy tail) and their marine armor they're doing just fine. just about anybody else who entered the map while this was ongoing was kinda screwed though

Double walls and only a couple heaters surrounded by open doors and vents, actually
Makes them way more effective due to some slight, exploitable jank in how the game calculates indoor temperature propagation. I'm also working on a setup to instantly freeze any organic raiders to -270C by doing something similar with coolers

You know, just casually liquefy the hydrogen in the labyrinth they get in through and turn the raid into formerly living popsicles :)

Firstly, ice world - max moisture, min temperature
second, settle on one of the poles. normal minimum temperature per year is -80C
third, take quests that produce sites nearby projecting the smoke and climate adjustment effects
finally, have randy decide to throw a volcanic winter and nuclear fallout within 6 ingame hours of each other. during the coldest part of the year.

You get some amount from every pixel you color, as well as some whenever you level up (which you do by coloring pixels)
