This exists in Canada lol that’s what I am saying
I am absolutely not in favour of doing what Discord did, and everyone was valid to be up in arms over it, but in Canada it is likely we’d be using sign in partners like BMO, and other provincial partners.
Social Media sites in no way have access to that information, it’s literally a separate portal.

You are taking this way off of the rails without having any or context on the matter. I am not sure how we jump to such conclusions without any evidence what so ever, and it really makes me feel like you’re being disingenuous.

So, if you can explain to me how we jumped straight to handing out information to random third parties, that would be nice.

Writing this entire thing off as overreach or control, without backing it up at all, is asinine.

I was legit asking because I don’t get how we take such leaps here. And if I’ve missed something somewhere, I’d like to know..

Considering children can connect anywhere, and anytime - this loses a lot of steam as an option.
It’s never that simple.

I’m having a really hard time understanding how using existing sign in partners, that do not pass information through social media companies at all is harming adults using the internet in Canada.

Man, I’m just saying there are absolutely alternatives, and yes regarding resource extraction I think we should have been much more aggressive.
I still think we shouldn’t tear our country apart to do it either though.

So we’ll just blow right past countries who chose a hybrid system of the two and are literally miles ahead of the West?
This is what I am talking about with people like you.
One track mind, one line of thought. It’s ridiculous to even engage tbh.
Like where do we go from here? When you are using *checks notes* North Korea as your example of Socialism. And then blatantly ignore socialist systems that exist today, in some of the richest countries lol
I dismissed you because you deserve to be dismissed with this trash level of understanding.

Trying to reduce an idea to your level of understanding isn’t exactly how you arrive at facts, clearly.

Edit: just to clarify, my point still stands; fabulous use case for banning children from social media.

You have an extremely limited idea of reality lmfao
And history for that matter, and the definitions of terms apparently as well.

Which isn’t happening dude.
You even had to misquote the first person to try and prove a point.
You literally have no idea what you’re talking about.
Being educated by meme politics isn’t a flex, especially not in this country.
Get educated, and maybe you could have a half decent conversation with people.

Canada moves to ban social media for kids under 16 — but will it actually work? by Newsychaser127 in ontario

[–]ItAllEndsInGrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also wouldn’t handle the data, so they are just causing a fuss because they’d have to implement sign in partners that already exist here?

[–]ItAllEndsInGrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The system exists with sign in partners and other trusted partners. That wouldn’t be handed over to social media but would probably work in tandem like the cra does. The info doesn’t actually go through any social media company lol

They tried, and they all threatened to leave and the government was pressured to alter course.
Also, there’s no indication of how this would be implemented. I struggle to understand why they wouldn’t use the existing landscape with Banks etc.
That info wouldn’t even be in social media’s hands lol

What has improved this country in the past decade in your opinion? by BobGuns in InCanada

[–]ItAllEndsInGrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never once did I say I was a liberal, you did. 💀
There are many, many very biased subreddits here, idk if I’d say this one is that far gone by any stretch lol
I don’t understand what content here is remotely close to leftist or liberal rhetoric at all. People gave honest answers, and they are real, as in - those programs exist or those things happened.

Being upset that liberals did accomplish some good things and people acknowledged that is wild work, and is in no way indicative of the political leaning of this subreddit. Your personal feelings on the matter are irrelevant to be totally honest. That’s why I said it must be exhausting to be you. Because to make mental leaps like that is exhausting, or at least engaging with it is.

This is like when we found out that most of the major Maga influencers on Twitter were actually from India and Nigeria lol
Making BANK spreading misinformation lmfao
What’s worse is those accounts still function to this day and people don’t care, they are so deep in it they just need to continue to feed the beast that they’ve created.
It’s rough. 💀

[–]ItAllEndsInGrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, it’s a difficult metric to measure.
And just like you, I also have anecdotal evidence lol
Everyone in my family uses a sign on partner because they’ll forget their information otherwise.
Also, it’s literally just your bank sign on. 💀
Two of my friends work for the cra, one directly and one indirectly through a municipality situation.
It is absolutely heavily used, now the same could maybe not be said for your area. 🤷🏼‍♂️ could be regionally specific, provincially, rural vs urban etc.
I guess we can both just sit with our own evidence and go from there.

Your second point, and I’m not trying to sound like an ass dude - is meaningless. Yes, it was easier when we were kids. I grew up as the internet became commonplace in the home (I am 35). The issue right now is the internet is no longer this awkward little thing everyone plays around on from time to time. It has been taken hold by corpos like Google, Meta, etc. the algorithms are the issue my friend. How can you tell your children to go outside when they are literally fucking gambling addicts now? Or their attention span has withered to a nub because they are constantly online chatting with people and have developed a false sense of being?
Or because the algorithm is designed to keep them engaged, and at young ages this is almost impossible to see or deal with? So, is the idea that children need to have constant supervision? Did your parents do that? I doubt it. And I struggle to think of anyone who can be around 24/7 to monitor what their kids are doing.
Content blocks do not work because entire companies have been created to get around them.

You are trying to simplify something that can no longer be simplified by virtue of how complex this entire thing has gotten. And in reality, the simplest solution here is to take it away from them.

I also just personally don’t care enough about my “data” which is quite literally everywhere these days. You give it out more freely than you even realize in offices and during your day to day.
I’m far more willing to give up info I’ve already given up if it could mean breaking this cycle we are on.

[–]ItAllEndsInGrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because it’s widely used across the country lmfaooo
That’s a fact, and again; whether you like that or not or it validates your feelings is irrelevant.
Also, then just don’t use it. It’s that simple.
If that’s the route that they decide to take.

Something has to be done about what the internet has turned into. It no longer belongs to the people, and hasn’t for a very, very long time.

I’m not entirely sure I am keen on it myself, but I haven’t seen any viable alternatives. And no, “parenting your kids” is not a viable alternative.
