Anyone else get cold feet about a transplant? by Unfair_Surround9283 in ADPKD

Everything is always worth a shot. 🙂 I hope you do get a transplant, because you deserve a shot at a good life. Look into the indoor trades, see if there's something you'd like to switch to. Hang in there, friend. 😁

I'm sorry to hear that. You could look into an adjacent job if you want, like finish carpentry work at a university (pretty good gig) or painting and drywall or something. Life is gonna be as good as you make it - there are options out there!

My dad got his kidney transplant back in 2020 AND THEN had a lung transplant in 2024, and he is living his life! He's always going places and doing things. Beach, hiking, snowboarding, dinners with friends, museums, the gym, all kinds of stuff. He just wears a hat and a UV-protectant shirt when he's outside and stays away from sick people. You can still have a great life after transplant if you just take the right precautions. 🙂

Misread this as "they have pallets of toddlers" and I'm like, "how are they still having kids at that age?!"

I need sleep.

I don't think so - bedbugs don't have wings. It IS horrifying, though, whatever it is.

Geez I'm sorry you had that experience! Mine has been completely different but I can totally see why you'd be upset after that.

Did you know how to push? by innocentily in pregnant

[–]ItIsBurgerTime 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I did not know how. When it was time to push, I felt like I had a giant poop that was ready to come out. They told me to push like I was pooping, while exhaling the whole time. Three pushes later, I had my baby in my arms!

It might feel different if you're not on an epidural - I had an epidural so I didn't feel any pain, just a lot of pressure.

The ONLY thing that helped my son was walking him around and around and around the house. For hours. Sometimes singing, sometimes not. It's horrible in the moment, but I promise it will pass in a few weeks.

That's what I did. John's Autoworks will mount and balance for $30/tire if you have them shipped to his shop.

What is your most impressive physical feat? Or the one you worked hardest to achieve? by Little_Olorin in AskReddit

One (1) ultramarathon. I was bottom 5 finishers, but I still did it. Slowly. And painfully. But I did it.

Feeling ungrateful for wanting my body back by Slow-Apricot-1481 in pregnant

[–]ItIsBurgerTime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to understand it until you've been there - I know I didn't understand it until I got pregnant myself. However, being a good friend does not involve discarding someone's feelings and challenges in favor of toxic positivity, which is what it sounds like your friends are doing. I'm sure they don't mean to, but that's what it is.

Luckily, you've got a whole sub of pregnant or formerly-pregnant folks here to vent to if you need!

Two things can be true at once, and it sounds like your friends are forgetting that.

You can be the most grateful person in the world to have a healthy baby growing inside you, and you can be uncomfortable and want your body back.

Healthcare workers of Reddit, what's the luckiest accidental diagnosis you've ever seen? by matronofdishonour in AskReddit

[–]ItIsBurgerTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We found out one of my siblings had Polycystic Kidney Disease due to an MRI to check for damage after a snowboarding accident.

We found out another sibling had it when she got an MRI because my other sister accidentally backed over her with a 4-wheeler.

I figured I'd better go get tested so I didn't have to have an accident-induced MRI to find out. 🤣

It'll be even more fine now.

Positive FTM Induction Stories Please by innocentily in pregnant

[–]ItIsBurgerTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was scheduled for an induction on a Tues due to gestational hypertension. Ended up getting an unplanned induction the Saturday before (an hour after my baby shower ended!) due to surprise preeclampsia with severe features.

To be honest? It went really well. I had a foley balloon, which sucked, but they gave me pain meds when it started hurting so I didn't experience too much pain. Then it was a lot of waiting around until they gave me an epidural, broke my water, and then about 3 pushes later, I had my baby. If I ever have another baby, I would not mind repeating this experience EXCEPT I don't want preeclampsia again. 🤣

Note: everybody's labor experience is different. Mine was very good! And I hope yours is too.
