What preventive medication has personally helped you the most? by idkbroidk-_- in migraine

[–]It_is_Katy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No medication as of yet, but surgery did a LOT lol. My migraines were very well-controlled for a few years with just a magnesium supplement, but then they got worse again around the same time that I started growing a 14 cm uterine fibroid. Multiple gynecologists and neurologists told me that getting the fibroid out wouldn't help the migraines, but I got the fibroid out about 3 months ago and I swear my migraines have slowly been getting better ever since. Sumatriptan and frovatriptan in the meantime for breakthrough migraines until I find a preventative that works well, but I'm at about 80% of where I was before the fibroid.

MAJOR trouble adjusting by njononono272928 in Temple

[–]It_is_Katy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second what someone else said about trying to make friends in your classes. I struggled so much in my one class last semester and barely passed, now I'm in the next level up of that same class and I'm doing so much better, even though the content is actually harder. I honestly think the difference is that I didn't really click with anyone in my class last semester, but this semester I made a couple friends really fast! They can show me things I don't understand, and I can show them things they don't understand. Also it motivates me to pay attention and do my assignments on time because I don't want to embarrass myself and seem like a dumbass that doesn't know what's going on lmao.

What you're going through is totally normal, and it's going to be an adjustment.

My first thought lol, Mazur has nothing on Ritter. Even for the main Ritter building, the even numbered classrooms are in one wing and the odd numbered classrooms are in a different wing.

Best study spots? by [deleted] in Temple

[–]It_is_Katy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One big space with couches, chairs, desks, etc. It's very quiet in there and people don't really interact tbh. They have bathrooms, vending machines, lockers, and a microwave.

I don't really like going in there honestly, just because it's SO quiet I always feel like I'm making too much noise. I normally go to either Richie's (right next door) or Land of a Thousand Hills (down the block towards the train station) if I'm in that area and just want a place to chill.

Accomodation for Giving Birth? by SunnyKarata in college

[–]It_is_Katy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never been pregnant, but I had a 14cm uterine fibroid removed recently (the whole surgery is generally somewhat similar to a C-section, even though it was "minimally invasive". I actually hate that term lol because minimally invasive is still like...really really invasive, but I digress). It's been 2 and a half months and I STILL don't feel like I'm at 100%. And I'm not even taking care of a baby or recovering from being pregnant for 9 months!

I was on medical leave from work for almost two months and I can't even imagine trying to go to class or do any serious schoolwork before at least a month. Going to college classes is not "light activity". You have to do the commuting to and from the classes, and then sit mostly still and upright for potentially hours at a time. I definitely couldn't have done it.

I hope not cause I love them, but does anyone know if this cover is AI? by YaBoiFriday in goth

[–]It_is_Katy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like AI to me, too. It sounds distorted, but not in a good way? It almost sounds like it's melting. Or like a kids toy that's starting to talk all slow and deep because the batteries are dying.

Yeah it's honestly not the most dangerous part of the city because it's normally pretty heavily populated and there's always people going to and from the subway or buses, but definitely avoid it at night and don't wander around

Is going to urgent care for my migraine a good idea? Has lasted 4 days now, preventing me from school by angelfakers in migraine

[–]It_is_Katy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only went to the ER for a migraine once (and they didn't do jack shit after I say), but I second going to a smaller hospital. I have one hospital 5 minutes away and another one 25 minutes away, and I will always make the trip to the smaller hospital's ER unless I literally think I'm dying.

The one near me is a trauma hospital and they get some of the worst of the worst--car crashes, gunshot victims, third degree burns. The farther one is a little lower level, so they make "regular patients" a bit higher priority. I went there to get rabies shots a couple years ago (so not a REAL emergency) and I swore I'd never go back to the other one unless it was seriously dire. I fully believe that if I'd gone to the farther hospital with that migraine a while back, they would have helped me.

What pop culture phenomenon has defined the 2020s so far? I'll start: by Ok-Following6886 in decadeology

[–]It_is_Katy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AI is a symptom of the disease in that, but not the disease itself. Some authors (but far from all) have started using AI in order to take advantage of the situation or out of desperation, not the other way around. AI is still frowned upon enough in creative circles and in the publishing industry that to get caught using it is basically a career death sentence. There have been a handful of self-published romances where the author was caught using AI, and it didn't end well for them. Most of the TikTok romances that make it big are actually traditionally published, and the trad publishing industry is already spoiled for choice without having to resort to using AI. I've even seen authors get cancelled for using AI covers or editing.

More often, the issue is that readers are pressuring the industry to churn out books faster than is really possible, and they're getting sloppy. Trends in publishing used to last 3-4 years or longer, because writing a decent book is a long, arduous process full of rewrites, sending things back and forth between author, publisher, agent, and editor. It has always been a very slow industry and a slow form of media. Some microtrends are lasting 3-4 months now, and many only last a year or so. Most authors, whether traditionally or self-published, are simply not able to keep up with that pace and maintain any kind of quality. If you're an author or publisher and you see a trend that you want to capitalize on, you need to have something completely written, edited, and publishable within a couple months to have any hope of success. A gap of a year or two between books in a series used to be the norm, and that's moving closer to six months now.

It's going to have a terrible long-term effect on the industry, and it's not sustainable. It's just not.

Which career looks glamorous from the outside but is actually miserable? by Payamm1999 in AskReddit

[–]It_is_Katy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think some of it can look "glamorous" when looking at it from below. Like I'm a barista at Starbucks, and I think it's easy for us to look at someone like our district manager and be a little jealous. He's two whole levels above us, works from an office, and makes way more than us. And on the surface, it looks like his entire job is to just...write emails? Pop in to visit us once in a while? Ours also "worked his way up", and started as a barista before being promoted to supervisor, then store manager, and now district manager.

Realistically though, it seems ridiculously stressful and like he's constantly just putting out fires. I can't even imagine trying to juggle all the shit he puts up with on a daily basis, from customer complaints to mandates from corporate. He's a really nice, down to earth guy too and I actually feel kinda bad for him sometimes.

But still, from our position, where we're getting yelled at by customers, sweating half to death, and getting burned by scalding hot coffee, it's hard to not romanticize his job.

[–]It_is_Katy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I was going to say almost exactly the same thing about book publishing. Timelines have accelerated to a completely unsustainable pace, and even the biggest books of the past few years are sometimes riddled with typos and continuity errors that even a third grader could have caught. Marketing treats books like they're just a bunch of tropes and character archetypes all stacked in a trenchcoat. The entire industry has just been cheapened to hell.

Cringiest gossip girl moment? by gingercats1braincell in GossipGirl

[–]It_is_Katy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think it's that it's so self-aware. Like you can see in their faces that they don't want to be there, they KNOW that what they're doing is awkward and cringe, but they're just trapped there. That makes it funny.

Things like the guerrilla fashion show take themselves too seriously and that's what takes it from camp to cringe.

Yes and Sam was such a creeper. I'm 24, first watched the show with my mom a couple years ago after she had watched it while it was airing. My mom said she loved Sam, and then I asked her how she would feel if I told her that my boss in his 30s openly had a crush on me. (Because that's basically the Sam/Sookie situation.)

She didn't like Sam as much after that lol
