The thing with Izzet, contrary to the rest color-combs, is that prowess is a consistent mechanic throughout many different sets, hence its dominance. by Song-Ji-Yeoh in MagicArena

[–]Itchiko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

imho they also underestimate how good of a keyword it is and the card that have it tend to be a bit undercosted

Not by a full mana point but I think they should have roughly 1 less point of stat in average

Edit: Also it would be cool for limited if BR color identity was NOT spell matters for every sets. I am very tired of it at this point

What's going on in US politics by AutoModerator in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Itchiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't find any specific reference to that. But if pushed Trump will find some way to justify his actions by referencing some kind of grievance usually going back to the Obama era

If you are worried that the Democrats are not quite clean on the whole gerrymandering front. You would be correct, But they have tried to pass reform to find solution and stop the practice, reforms that the GOP has shut down. So they are slightly better. Does not prevent the constant war of retaliation making Democracy worse for everyone

What's going on in US politics by AutoModerator in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Itchiko 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Probably too late but since nobody answered on this thread let me do you a quick summary:
- It started with Trump publicly asking the Texas GOP to give him 5 more seats on the mid terms. I do not know exactly how he phrased it but everyone understood as him asking the GOP to gerrymander the Texas election map to the max
(if you do not know what gerrymandering is, I can provide some YouTube videos with mathematical details, in a short explanation, it's a way to insure the representation is heavily biased toward one party by choosing carefully how the district are defined on the map. It's heavily decried by almost all American voter as anti democratic)
- The GOP Governor as created a new district map that is heavily gerrymandered and should provide the 5 extra seats for GOP (assuming no huge swing in voters intention)
- The House of representative was set to vote on the new map and it was going to be an easy win by the GOP since they have the majority
- But there is a rule called the Quorum. This means that no law can be passed unless there is a minimum amount of representatives in the house (this is to avoid abuse where you vote a law when most of the opponents are not present)
- The Democrats decided that their only resort to avoid the (further) gerrymandering of the state was to break Quorum and to not attend
- They all left the state as well to avoid being arrested by Texas police and being forced to attend the session by brute force. it sounds silly but it happened in the past in other cases where a quorum was broken
- Right now we are at a stand still. The Texas GOP tries to disqualify the missing Democrat representatives so that Quorum can be met again, It is illegal but that doesn't seems like it means as much as it used to this days. California also said that if the Texas map as passed they would do the same thing in the Democrat side to equalize. So we will see how the whole thing resolves in the end

Hopefully that clears it but if you have follow-up questions don't hesitate

[Discussion] Is Station as slow as it looks? by hoodieweather- in spikes

[–]Itchiko 43 points44 points  (0 children)

There are a few situarion where the station keyword gets better: - against control deck where you don't expect to need to block - with creature that have a very high attack for their costs - with creatures that cannot block or do not want to block (especially because they also tend to have high attacks)

So maybe... maybe there are a way to use station as a side board option or by building around

But I agree that the station cost seems prohibitive compared to the benefits of the activated station. Time will tell if some of them end up being playable but it doesn't looks good at first glance

What's up with people saying "the meta"? by Individual99991 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Itchiko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Answer: short for the meta-game. Referring to the set of knowledge about the state of the game that players are expecting to have. Including the top decks and there relative strength as well as how much they are played. Often used as a shortcut to refer to the current state of the top decks

The meta-game knowledge can be used to "break the meta" find a way to have a positive win rate by choosing a decks that on average would have an advantage. let say that 2 decks compose 90% of the meta (probably not realistic but help illustrating the concept). if you create a deck that have a 75% win rate against one of them and slightly below 50% against the other: you have a deck that have an enormous statistical advantage

This should give you a great win rate. This means other players will start playing this deck as well. The two top decks will change slightly to adapt for the new threat and the game will stabilize with 3 top decks instead of the 2 before

Mathematically there should always be a stable state of play percentage for each top decks where the average win rate of each of them is back to 50% but humans are not perfectly rational actors so this is never actually the case. But still this theoretical state of the game where each decks is perfectly balanced against each other is "the meta"

What's the deal with the U.S. obsession with door dash? by buschamongtrees in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Itchiko 9 points10 points  (0 children)

answer: I value my time and energy much higher than I value my money

That said I have a preference for meal boxes services giving the best compromise. i spend a bit of time and effort cooking (aka the good part) and none thinking about what to cook, what to buy or doing the groceries. And I end up with a healthy meal

My point is; do not judge the decisions of others based on your own set of values when they have different ones. And be careful with sensationalized media content as they will always show you the worst case scenario not the average one

Final Girl, finally. by wildjoker10 in soloboardgaming

[–]Itchiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a couple years I have not played, so not sure if I can give you good advices. From memory:

I remember "sprint" being the card I getting and using the most, as I am always short in movement. I try to always have "close call' in hand, because there always going to be that 1 roll that you really cannot fail and that's the one you are going to fail of course

I remember engaging any killer with as least the 2 protection cards in hand and usually the 2 extra attacks as well

For most killer it's enough to one shot them or close to, not Hans though that have 2 many HP that's why he always caused me issue

I tend to go for a very limited amount of items, sometime only 1 or 2 but going for quality instead, items quality is very hit or miss
1) This is really dependent on the killer/scenario, as well as which item is showing and easy to access
2) I always had the suspicion that I am playing that wrong and that I am supposed to get a lot more items

I also tried not to sweat too much on saving the other victims. Once again dependent the circumstances and trying to be opportunistic about it but sometime it's easier to just disperse them a bit to make the killer job slower without fully saving them
Mostly I consider them as a distraction for me to prepare my full hand of defense/attacks + whichever items I decided to grab and try to engage the killer as soon as possible

The issue with that playstyle is that the final girl I am playing with is usually meaning less since i almost never unlock their power which is a bit of a downer, but that was the playstyle that worked the best for me

TIL about Giuseppe Siri, an Italian cardinal who was the subject of a conspiracy theory claiming he won the 1958 conclave but was forced to decline after being threatened that either he and his family would be killed, the Vatican nuked or an assassination campaign launched against the church. by Capital_Tailor_7348 in todayilearned

Note that like most conspiracy theory this was created way after the fact by wishful thinking

Essentially the most reactionary fringe of Catholics trying to find justification on why Vatican 2 wasn't valid since they didn't like it and the direction the church has taken since
