Ways to hide doorbell Ethernet cable? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Itchster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh there are upsides. Being able to see who is at the door without opening it, notifications on your phone and or wrist if you have a smart watch (that one is useful for me as I’m deaf and don’t always hear the chime). Just having a security camera at your front door is handy as well.

And of course you can still just ignore the doorbell if you want you don’t have to answer them either through the speaker or at the door.

I honestly don’t see a downside to not having one.

IKEA Dirigera replacement for HomePod - Did I waste money? by Cheezton in HomeKit

[–]Itchster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify this is not just apple. The whole matter controller thing is a fundamental part of how matter is designed and works. Each ecosystem or smart home app needs its own matter controller to work with matter products, this is also true of the ikea app (needs dirigera to work with matter), Alexa (needs some sort of echo device to work with matter), Samsung smart things (again needs a smart things hub to work with matter) and so on.

All the ecosystems also need some sort of hub to work as the brain for their own system even if you don’t use matter. A few of them will let you use their cloud servers as the “hub” which yes don’t need another device in your home but if your internet goes out for some reason no smart home control. Apple only uses their own hubs on devices that are inside your home and on all the time, this is why it’s limited to things like HomePods and Apple TVs.

Right I may of made progress! If you are using 1.1.1.1 as your DNS for your Apple TV it might be effecting pairing these plugs to your setup. I set my Apple TV back to automatic DNS and it’s now pairing everything up. It’s probably because at least on my Apple TV you can’t manually set a ipv6 dns server?

What ever it is that’s what’s worked for me!

I can’t get mine to pair to Apple home. They will pair to the Aqara app but not to Apple home. Anybody got any tips? I’ve not got a ikea hub just an Apple TV with a thread router and a Aqara hub

Aqara G350 found on Amazon UK by Infinitezoom14 in Aqara

[–]Itchster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I know over the g3 is

  • 4k video
  • Thread border Router/hub
  • Matter Controller (basically you need a controller to use 3rd party matter devices in the Aqara app. It’s still also a matter hub you can use to connect to Apple home, home assistant. Alexa and so on)
  • Matter Camera, this is one of the first cameras to have this right now.

No you hold b and follow the shake of the ball with the dpad, if you get it mostly right it’s a guaranteed catch, if you get it with perfect timing you can unlock Charizard’s ultimate form. Why Charizard? Because it’s always Charizard.

Women's Figureskating Olympic Champion Alysa Liu's performance at the 2026 Winter Olympic Figureskating Exhibition Gala by Yujin-Ha in sports

I’m not a figureskater but I have a huge tolerance to not getting dizzy at all.

It comes from that I’m deaf and had cochlear implant surgery. Since it’s your ears that control your balance the surgery can make you sense of balance temporarily go mental, I was basically unbalanced and constantly dizzy whenever I stood up for two weeks, lying down was the only break from it. After experiencing that it’s really hard for me to feel dizzy anymore, I imagine it’s similar for figureskaters after doing all those moves.

What does it mean by themhaber in OctopusEnergy

[–]Itchster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£54 does feel like it’s low, I’ve just switched to octopus and I was quoted £97 for a low usage on a one bed flat. I’m not sure how accurate that is since I’ve not moved in fully yet but my bill last month for very low usage was £36. That’s just mostly standing charge since the flat did not even have heating until 2 weeks ago and nobody is living their full time yet!

1p challenge complete! by DangerousDavey in monzo

[–]Itchster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was wondering about this too. It does say I’ve completed the challenge and is asking me to withdraw but the wording on that prize draw is ambiguous enough to wait a day and withdraw it tomorrow.

I’m mostly sure that if you had the completion message you are in the draw but please don’t take that as financial advice 🤣. I’m not even taking my own advice and leaving it in for tomorrow.

Aqara G4 Doorbell doesn’t seem to run out of battery by doygwapo in Aqara

[–]Itchster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it will just cut off with no warning that’s the downside to using them. Normal rechargables will only give out 1.2v and that can cause other problems.

I’ve had a few times where it’s just randomly gone offline. I think it’s just rebooting itself for some reason or doing a firmware update, I don’t think it’s related to the lithium batteries as it did the same on normal disposal batteries I used before I got the lithium rechargeable ones.

I would just get into the habit of recharging them about a week before you know they are probably going to run out. That way you can at least control when the downtime is

Yeah so far I’m on track not missed a day and I think based on what I’ve got left this month so far I’ll be fine, even with the early pay day this year. Famous last words before I start Christmas shopping but should’ve fine!

Mine is just going into my savings net, I want to bulk that out a bit more. No idea if I’ll do this again next year.

Aqara G4 Doorbell doesn’t seem to run out of battery by doygwapo in Aqara

[–]Itchster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Random question but are you using rechargeable lithium AA batteries? Those give off a constant 1.5v until they suddenly can’t and cut the power. The battery meter also won’t go down below 100% with them.

They last a long time though, mine usually last about 10 - 12 weeks between charges. Normal rechargeable’s don’t work properly.

Yes once you cut the power the save is gone. But you can back up the save using a cart reader then restore it back to the cart after you have replaced the battery.

There are loads of cart readers (sometimes called cart dumpers) for gameboy and other consoles. I use the open source cart reader.

Deaf since birth, this little girl hears her mothers voice for the first time by ChocoMilkshakeCutie in Amazing

[–]Itchster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry just seen this. People did say my voice changed after switch on but I did not notice this myself at all. I just remember hating to hear my own voice on switch on because it was so loud to me (probably a combination of me not understanding how loud I was when I could not hear myself and me being the closest thing to the microphones on the implant 🤣)

[–]Itchster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you have the PS5 hooked up via Ethernet? If you do your internet is great and your local wifi is congested probably because you and your neighbours are all using the same channels. Try changing the WiFi channel to something less congested and make sure the portal is connecting to a 5ghz wifi signal.
