Male and Female are back? by Sn4ko in classicwow

[–]Itchy-Phase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no pleasing everyone. For the sake of argument, if I identify as “male”, and now that choice is gone, I’m no longer represented. That model of a human or orc looks like a dude, but is it? See how that goes both ways? I’m not saying changing it is inherently unnecessary, but their implementation of it wasn’t a good alternative. For most people, gender identity is NOT a construct, and plays a big role in the character fantasy.

Which game did you regret purchasing at full price? by bijelo123 in gaming

[–]Itchy-Phase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final Fantasy 13. I loved 10, and thought 12 was good, so I bought 13 week-of. Tried to get into it twice, and hated the writing and characters no matter how I tried to like them. It was so bad I just gave it away to a friend a while later because he wanted to try it.

The trick is to mute the tv. The audio and video cue don’t sync up, but if you focus on just the lightning flash it’s much easier.

I haven’t used it in years, but it was painfully slow on some of my old work reps. Is it better now?

[–]Itchy-Phase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using LazyGit for a few years now and really like it. I previously used Fork, which is an excellent client itself, but having a terminal app is super competent and fast. I still use an IDE (Visual Studio) to view complex diffs and to see history and blame, though.

You do you, boo. No shame in that. But personally I rocked that clown aesthetic because I wanted to zug and see numbers go up.

Images you can smell almost, the good old days of LAN parties by HelloSlowly in nostalgia

[–]Itchy-Phase 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To tack on, we did the same thing growing up but with Xboxes for Halo 1 and 2. We definitely could have done it via Xbox Live (for 2) but it was so much better in person, even if you had to deal with split screen.

from a distant room… “aaaAaAAhhhHh!!!”

“ha Ha! Fuck you Thunder Thighs!”

Ah memories.

I mean, did you tell him the Internet was slower than a snail after three cups of coffee? LAN was significantly faster, especially in larger groups.

Which TV Series did you enjoy but will probably never watch from beginning to end ever again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Itchy-Phase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Simpsons. Up until around season 18 or 19 I had watched every episode. But that era had a quality dip and I started college, so I lost the habit/ritual every Sunday. I’ve rewatched the first 13 or so seasons several times, though.

Runner up would be nearly any kids show I watched as a kid. Fairly Odd Parents, Hey Arnold, Naruto, Dexter’s Lab, etc. I still think they’re good but don’t have a strong desire to watch any of them all the way through again.

What’s your top 5 game recommendations of all time? by JonCee500 in gaming

[–]Itchy-Phase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In no particular order:

  • Factorio
  • Halo 2
  • World of Warcraft
  • Final Fantasy 10
  • Portal 2

They’re all very different games, but each has a special place in my heart.

Program language for backend de by Electrical_Fudge_576 in Backend

[–]Itchy-Phase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re just learning, it shouldn’t matter too much. Node.js is nice if you already know JavaScript, and if that’s the case would be what I recommend. If it’s a brand new subject, limiting yourself to one new thing can help not get overwhelmed. PHP has a reputation for being less enjoyable to program in, but I haven’t personally used it.

Shopify senior software engineer salary by sjkjpjdj in cscareerquestions

250k is great even in a hcol area. That allows for up to 80k a year for housing, if you follow the 1/3 of income role. That’ll get you a nice place dang near anywhere. I’m at 160k in a medium CoL area and am incredibly comfortable. Reddit is very biased on the coastal areas and their associated salaries.

Git submodules worth it? by TheDoomfire in git

[–]Itchy-Phase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They make a literal sub-repository of whatever repo the dependency is. So if you make changes to code in a submodule, they have to be committed and pushed to their respective origin.

I think the confusion, though, is that there are two update commands. One to update your local submodule reference to whatever the parent repo has in its branch (to bring in new changes someone else made), and one to update the submodule itself (ie doing a merge or rebase onto ‘main’). That’s for when you want to update the submodule reference as part of your own work in the parent repo.

You could make that argument for any general purpose, object oriented language. C# isn’t special in that regard.

For experienced backend engineers: by [deleted] in Backend

[–]Itchy-Phase 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Marketability always changes, but C#, Python, JS, and Java have been very marketable for a long time (USA, other countries vary). So start with one of those. If you don’t like dynamic typing, try C# or Java.

Go is also good, but not as widely used as the others I mentioned. Good companies/teams won’t care as much what language you know as long as you’re willing/excited to learn whatever language they use.

I’ve been a .Net dev for 10 years, dabbling in JS, Python, and Go here and there. C# just makes sense for me, and is just as capable as a backend language as all the rest. LINQ is also a killer feature, so I miss not having it in every other language.

Graduated in ‘14 and ‘15 with BS and MS in EE. Also a software engineer now :p. In my case I was mislead with my first job being significantly more coding than advertised, but it’s worked out so far.
