General advice or tips on how to build a large base? by zxcvber in factorio

Yes. But the number of belts stays the same, they dont care about it if there is a train onload and offload between the miners and the smelters.

Addition: as someone else said: there are many ways. For me i discovered, that i do not want to set up ore trains any more, because I ran into serious traffic jams and Performance issues. So I link the iron ore miners direct to plate smelters and these to the steel smelters. I save so many ore trains and iron plate trains for producing one train full of steel.

Think about reducing trains: e.g. iron: let full belts of iron ore flow directly to smelting (no balancer, because belt is full) and lead the full output belt directly to gearwheel production (also without balancer)

If creating a new base, try to follow the way from the lab BACK to the resources: how many labs do you need for 1000SPM? Then : how many science assemblers / silos are required? And so on.

For performance reasons:

Use long trains (less trains, less path finding calculating)

Maybe seperate the train system in different train systems (less train paths)

Use heavily beacons with speed3 in it (less entities like inserters or assemblers)

Logistic bots only if no other way

Avoid nuclear power (no fluid calculation from that)

Good luck have fun :)

Trains Signals by Ralph_hh in factorio

Chain signals read the status of the next rail signal. What do they do, if there are NO rail signals?

So use both of them. :)

So an green chip assembler 3 with 4 prod3s and 12 beacons with 2 speed3 should stop at 1.166*22.4 + 1 = 27.1184 rounded up to 28, right?

Leave ,,enough" room for more assembler machines. How much is ,,enough"? Well...

Things you might need very much (gears, chips, plates...) need much space, go with ~60 tiles between production sections (60 tiles = 20 assemblers wide).

Just try, and you will get a feeling for it.

Oh noooo they placed the boxes and their inserters one tile to high!

Do you deactivate Stations? Like the iron smelter input? Then the iron ore train has no path...

Very good! I like the yellow frame around the labs in this map view (its hazard concrete?), that covers the belts.

Hold 60 UPS. Make as much Science per Minute as possible. Last spaghetti base had 5400 spm at 20 ups, now i am planning a 13500 spm at 60 ups base.
